Review of a Production of William Shakespeare´s Hamlet

Hamlet Review
“To be or not to be, that is the question.” That is a question that should be asked about this play. Is this play meant to be or not? On February 4th, 2014 The Shakespeare Company of Boston came to Catholic Memorial's Ronald Perry Gymnasium to perform an truncated version of Hamlet, produced by Ross MacDonald. Overall I will give this play a total of 2 out of five stars. I do not believe this play is worth seeing unless you are truly a fan of Shakespeare. In this production, Hamlet's father Hamlet was murdered not even 2 months later his uncle committed an incestuous act and married Hamlet's mother. Hamlet, with strong objection, seeks out his uncle to determine his father’s murderer. "The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King." MacDonald did a decent job getting the plot across but some word needed to be done on all parts of the production including but not limited too; the Acting, the actors/actoresses and the setting/stage.
The setting, props, and stage were less than stellar but it is understandable with the available resources. In a high school gymnasium you will not be able to mimic a Broadway play. That being said the setting and props were not up to par with what they should have been. For example, when Polonius was stabbed in the Queens closet it was not very believable. He hid behind a red curtain that was stage left which looked believable but when Hamlet moved the curtain to discover it was Polonius you could clearly
