EXP. #1
Before I even begin to clarify what is widely-known by everyone on planet Earth besides Bill Russell and Randy Horick, I must ask, if you reading this has ever watched a women’s basketball game? Doesn’t count when you pass a game on T.V. when channel surfing or going to a game because a relative/friend asked you to. No, I mean from tip off to the final whistle out of pure entertainment.... Of course you haven’t because rarely anyone does! If you have I hope you feel unique because you belong the 1% of the population that does.
Now riddle me how the best WNBA player even compares to the 10th best player in the NBA? They are shorter, smaller (as in mass), not as athletic, not as strong, nor as fast. This whole

People feel that way towards addiction simply because the addicts consumption of the drugs were motivated behind the idea of being intoxicated. But anyways, I digress. Similar to other chronic, relapsing diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, or heart disease, drug addiction can be managed successfully. And, as with other chronic diseases, it is not uncommon for a person to relapse and begin abusing drugs again. Relapse, however, does not signal failure; but rather indicates that treatment should be reinstated, adjusted, or that an alternate treatment is needed to help the individual regain control and
The consequences that follow the use of any drug are unfavorable. Although many individuals may see drug addiction as a mere lifestyle choice, it is a problem that many individuals suffer from and inevitably a growing issue that leaves major social and economic impacts.
Indeed, who would have predicted ten years ago? That women's basketball so wildly popular? Well, people who have watched the growth of women's basketball in southern states. The enormous campus arenas at the state universities in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia filled to capacity for home games. The coach for Tennessee's Lady Vols, Pat Summitt. She has achieved nearly godlike stature in that state. A tall, striking figure on- and off-court. Summitt commands respect. Wherever she goes. My youngest sister, Ruth Ann, who lives in Tennessee. She says you can't near Pat Summitt after a game. "You'd think she a rock star," she says. Although Geno Auriemma, Coach of the UConn women's team. Not yet enjoying that kind of support. He rapidly becoming
In the sports world, there are many competitive sports between men and women. Players compete to find out who play better men or women. Most men think that they are the best at any and everything but is that actually true. The most competitive sport of all is basketball. The WNBA and NBA both have similarities such as dribbling and shooting technique; however, some people believe that men can play basketball better than women.
While they are playing the same game, the NBA is getting paid more than WNBA. Many people argue that the NBA is better than the WNBA, but have no evidence behind it. Clearly this is not fair, and they should get paid the same, based on how many years playing and how they play.
The WNBA deserves the same attention and respect equal to the NBA due to its equal entertainment value, competitiveness, and their rights to
First of all, there is the Structural-Functional perspective way people view drug addiction as. The structural-functional perspective is the role the drugs do for the person or the weakening of the norms. It is the way they affect the person and what it does to them that makes them be addicted to drugs. For some people drugs relieves them. It takes them away from their problems from a while and they feel stress free and because of that feeling they receive from the drugs they like it and continue to take more and more. Those with this type of perspective well most likely disagree with this view of drug addiction and would want the problem to decrease.
To understand addiction further, it is important to look at how drugs have neurological effects in a human body. Drugs can be ingested in various ways; while some are taken orally, some are smoked (cannabis) while others are injected directly into the blood stream (Heroin). Once in the body, they mainly affect the reward pathway in the brain, known as the dopaminergic pathway, which in turn gives pleasure. Even though all drugs affect the reward and motivation pathways in the brain, their speed depends on the way the drug has been consumed. Over constant use of drugs, the cognitive functions are impaired as the effects become more prominent in learning, memory
The origin of the WNBA. Women's basketball started in 1892. Basketball was invented for aggressive boys when it was to cold to go outside. They wondered if it was a good activity for women. well they thought it was but there was a couple of rules. You could only hold the ball for three seconds, you could only dribble three times, they had to stay in their spots, and they
Female athletes are discriminated against in modern sports because they have lower salaries than the male athletes. Over the years the wage gap between male and female athletes has increased tremendously. The wage gap that has been viewed as one of the most extraordinary is the gap between men and women basketball players. An article by David Berri talks about this outrageous money difference. Diana Taurasi plays a big part in the Women’s National Basketball Association, especially being the one that led the Phoenix Mercury to win the league championship in 2014. Taurasi was
Women’s equality is an issue that has been around for awhile. While women have been given many rights to increase equality, including the right to vote and go to college, the problem hasn’t completely vanished. One area that still sees this is in sports. Women’s sports do not draw nearly as many fans and are not covered in the media as much as men’s sports, pay differences between male and female athletes are large, and female athletes have to wait longer to start their professional career than men, which risks their professional career before it even starts.
Drug addiction has been happening for thousands of years. It is commonly known that addiction to drugs is poor for your health. However, drug addiction can affect an addict, their family, and their communities. Drug addiction needs more awareness and treatment because it leads to homelessness, crime, and broken families.
Basketball is one of the biggest sports in America. It is also popular around the worlds. Men’s basketball, in particular, is given much more preference in American society. Many would argue that the comparison of the two simply boils down to sexism in sports, where people downgrade the strength and athletic ability of women in our society according to typical gender roles. However, there may be more confounding factors that are generally overlooked.
It isn’t just racial inequality that continues to exist and squander sports, moreover, gender inequality continues to demolish our shared collaboration to play sports for, in simplest terms, the pure love of them. When people say, “The World Cup” they generally mean the male world cup, and a lot of sports stations don’t even televise the female equivalent. There is also the sheer fact that the WNBA isn’t nearly as popularized
Addiction is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as, “The compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal.” This excludes the people who use drugs recreationally, however, while they may not be addicts yet, they are on a very slippery slope. Addiction takes place when the neurotransmitters in the addict’s brain begin to rely on the drug to produce the chemicals needed to feel emotion, especially happiness. Substances such as methamphetamines, heroin, and cocaine flood the brain with dopamine causing a feeling of euphoria and extreme happiness. As the
Drug addiction is one of the most hard and mind over powering habits that anyone with an addiction can overcome. All these drugs can damage a person mentally and physically. When a drug over powers a mind and body it’s best that person stay in a rehab or get the help that is needed. Drugs will damage, and can cause short-term memory loss, cause depression to a person, vision problem, and poor lung function. These things are all caused from the addiction to drugs. It’s sad but so true. Drugs have this way of destroying, families, friendships, interest, goals and anything a person has and wants to do in their future. Addicts act wild and out of control. An addiction will make a person act at times sweet and normal when they want something. Then when they get up and then they start getting around and start wanting there drug. If they don’t get it then they will turn into another person and start acting like
