In Honors English III, Mrs. Bryce assigned the class a research project. Although we were allowed to work in groups, all of the writing portions were expected to be done individually. We were allowed do to research on any topic that we wanted. Unlike most papers we had written, this paper would be written in APA format. Some of the work would be done in class, such as the Introduction and Literature Review. However, most of it was expected to be done outside of school. Some additional requirements was that we had a minimum of three data collection sources and three findings from them.
When this class started at the beginning of this semester I was not sure I would learn a lot. The main objectives of this class were fairly simple. There were five main objectives to use and know. They are the following:
I’m not going to lie to everyone, writing is not my favorite thing to do in life. In fact, I’m looking forward to my last class for my bachelor’s degree and my last essay or paper to complete said bachelor’s degree. I cannot pinpoint whether my discord with writing is attributed to a lack of ideas flowing in my head, or the inability to translate my ideas to paper. With that being said, I started this class with a basic knowledge of the APA writing style and I’d like to say I had an intermediate level of understanding of grammar. After these past eight weeks of Writing 101, I now can easily setup and build an efficient APA essay and I’ve learned how to conform to the APA writing style’s reference page.
I share the same concerns on my writing as you. The APA guidelines are a continuing source of learning of rime. It is a goal of mine to master the APA guidelines. Regarding the course writing assignments I appreciate the Rubics. It serves as a map for me when
I completed my directed reading-thinking activity with a five year old kindergartener named Austin, at Holly Academy. After having taught my first DRTA, I deliberated on it both individually and with my cooperating teacher. I have several things that I would like to reflect upon. Overall, I think that the outcome of my DRTA was effective. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement.
Final Self Assessment Senior english class had taught me so much more than any of my other english classes. I feel like that this class really prepared me for who I am going to need to know for college considering I was going to be writing tons of papers. I think that if I would have taken this class this year than I would've been behind next year at UC. I am going into a science major so I think that when we did the assignment that compared the different formats like APA and MLA that really helped me. This class was not to stressful unless I began to slack and waited too the last minute too start writing my paper. Overall I really enjoyed this class and glad I got the credit for a college class.
This class has helped me to improve my writing in many ways. Though I do not manage my time as well as I would like to at the moment, I have evolved this aspect of my writing vastly. At the beginning of the semester, it took anywhere between two and four hours to complete an essay, and I would wait until the very last minute to even begin writing. I have learned how to properly manage my time in order to write my essays in a shorter amount of time. I have also increased my ability to find and present sources in an academic essay. Though I still need to polish my ability to present information without bias, I am able to find relevant information in order to further prove my point in an essay. Overall, this class has taught me many valuable things
From writing about pop culture impact in my life to argumentative essay about streaming services and cable, I have learned many different things from my composition class. This class has helped me become a great critic, a great researcher and most importantly a great writer. This class has helped me become
I have learned much from this course and I truly believe that I will take much of this information into my future in education. I learned so much about not only how to write in general, but more specifically my writing too. I think that the greatest factor about my writing that I realized I need to work on is preciseness. I have realized that my writing can be “beating around the bush”, and instead of making a paragraph too wordy, I should just get to the point and then analyze. I learned that a beneficial writing strategy can be overviewing the topic briefly, stating the argument, and then using supporting details like quotes and examples that back up the original argument.
Reading and writing are two things I do not like to do in my free time but this class has made me learn to accept and enjoy writing. I know it may not seem so I really enjoy writing about different things. Other people’s literature are difficult to understand but if you read it thoroughly you can understand what they were trying to say. Through this class I have learned to write much better than I originally did. It has taught me a lot about structure, form, and different writing styles. This course has showed me that English is more than reading and writing.
My colleague is lacking evidence for her overall research question. Her research draft is not arranged in proper order and her in-text citations are not in proper APA form. The source page contains credible sources from academic journals to actual research case studies. I recommended her to look up the in-text citation form on Purdue Owl or to go to the Writing Center in regards of citation since she does have the sources, she only needs to apply in-text citation on some parts of her paper. Another thing I recommended was to go over her outline and rearranged her order, I told her that she could start by giving the audience a little feedback about her research and then explaining the importance of therapy and the benefits a person receives
Learning to assess students can be likened to a choreographed dance routine, where practice makes perfect! After spending the past five weeks educating myself about, administering and fine tuning my `practice` of the Woodcock Johnson VI (WJ IV ACH), I believe that I have a stronger understanding of what makes it an unique assessment tool. What stands out for me about the test is that it offers numerous ways to identify a student’s academic strengths and challenges. This in turn, can help direct the needed intervention. I will summarize some of my thoughts about the WJ IV ACH by focusing on my initial experiences and analysis of three of the four comprehensive portions: reading, mathematics, and writing. I will conclude my summary by sharing
Reflective Essay of this Course The English skills I am walking away from this course are very tremendous. Whether it be my writing skills improving or just learning simple English things that I didn’t have a firm grab on or I never even learn. Being a freshman in college this has been one of my more useful English class because of all the actual useful things we learned and there wasn’t anything nonsense or nothing that I would not use in the future.
This week’s assignment of paraphrasing over 230 words of wisdom has proven to be a challenge but also proved to be a great benefit towards my rusty skills of writing. It was a challenge in that I had to figure out how to paraphrase with less than 100 words. There
Jejomar Sobrepena Professor Love ENC 1101 April 25, 2015 Lesson Learned To me, this semester has gone by pretty fast and during this semester, I learned so much in this course in a short period of time. I learned how to study different methods of writing and writing in different purposes. I also learned different
