Isn’t it great when you find the journal of Alexandrine Paradis hidden on the inside of an old guitar case, 2 centuries after it was hidden there? Revolution, a novel by Jennifer Donnelly is about 2 different revolutions; the French Revolution and the revolution going on inside of the protagonist. Andi Alpers, is on the edge, she’s angry at her father for leaving her, angry at her mother for not being able to cope with anything, and heartbroken by the loss of her younger brother, Truman. Andi Alpers is a 17 year old goth girl who lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her outfit usually consists of dark emo clothing and a couple rings, bracelets, plenty of earrings, A LOT of metal and 1 key tied around her neck with a red ribbon. Andi is known for her struggle with drugs and suicidal thoughts after her brother was killed. The one thing that keeps her from going insane is her music. She plays the guitar and has lessons with Nathan Goldfarb. Andi looks and acts different than all the others and she knows that people find it weird. …show more content…

One trait that Andi shows throughout the book is determination. She especially shows this when she fights to call her mother at the mental asylum, but she never did get through to her mother but only to her doctor. Andi is also very stubborn. When she wants to do something or doesn’t want to do something she does it the way she wants to and not anyone else. A great example of this is when Andi is persistent of doing the topic “Who’s our Daddy? Tracing the Musical DNA of Amadé Malherbeau” for her senior thesis in PowerPoint Form even though her father doesn’t want her to. She doesn’t like to be told what to do, especially when she knowns what she wants and how she wants to do
