In this class, we have so far learned about rhetoric, rhetorical analysis, and writing strategies. We learned how to find ethos, pathos, and logos within an article to find out how the author wanted to appeal to their audience. We also learned different reading and writing strategies that the author utilizes when they use ethos, pathos, and logos.
The first paragraph in the essay takes a form of a vivid description. It starts with a quotation of a teacher giving instructions to start an exam. Then the following phrases in the paragraph take a negative voice tone. The writer was worry about the exam, and he was sur that he is going to fail the exam. All these details make the reader hook to the essay and want to know why the test is a source of struggle for the writer, and why he thinks he is going to fail the exam.
riting center may seemingly have no control over most university writing constraints, many rhetorical strategies can be and have been implemented to accommodate to a wider genre of writing and writers. One such method that can prove to be useful without much work on the writing center’s behalf is to have tutors utilize several specialized strategies that tend to be specific for different types of scenarios within consultations.

It has the power to conform people’s minds to fit the ideal society or influence their opinions about a certain subject. It is everywhere! It can be found in books, movies, commercials, debates, and speeches just to name a few. In Aristotle’s book, Rhetoric, he mentions all of the analytical strategies that are used when this literary art is practiced. These strategies will be applied to three different works of literature.
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an autobiography in which Mr. Douglass tells his life story. He was born into slavery and experienced many harsh realities that shaped his life. Frederick Douglass was a free black man at the time in which he told this story. He is writing to his audience to inform them about slavery. His claim is that slavery is bad and must be stopped. His experiences help form his rhetoric as a credible speaker; His use of pathos truly develops the negative emotional and physical aspects of slavery on slaves.
In his article “If Technology Is Making Us Stupid, It’s Not Technology’s Fault,” David Theo Goldberg effectively informs the reader about the effects that computers in the home and school environment could have on the future education of the coming generations. Goldberg achieves this by executing defined organization and adding unique comparisons about the potentially crippling effects technology can have on a society when put into the wrong hands.
The role of academic writing in a student's life is largely contested among rhetoric and writing professors and academics. Covino and Joliffe's article "What is Rhetoric?" and Elbow and Bartholomae's academic discussion both seek to define both what role academic is and what role writing should play in undergraduate studies. While "What is Rhetoric?" focuses more on finding one definitive definition of rhetoric, Elbow and Bartholomae focus more on how they believe rhetoric and academic writing should be applied in the classroom. The discussions on both articles are incredibly important because they attempt to make academic writing accessible to students such as myself
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a government website that provides information about various diseases, disabilities, disorders, etc.. The CDC provides multiple webpages about Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) that list and provide information about causes, treatments, variations, and signs/symptoms of the disorder. On their informative pages, they use rhetorical devices to better portray their message. The CDC effectively uses the three rhetorical devices, pathos, ethos, and logos, to reach their goal of informing their target audience and providing a clear perspective on Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
Ronald Reagan 's Farewell Address was an amazing example of conveying the fundamentals for freedom through an emotional and visual lesson. It is no wonder that the president known as the "great communicator" was successful in painting for us a picture of who we were, past and present, and the improvements in the areas of strength, security, and stability that this great nation, or as Reagan referred to in his speech of John Winthrop 's vision of it as a "city upon a hill", had achieved over the past eight years. The rhetorical analysis I composed was written on an article called,“The confessions of a liberal gun owner,”by Justin Cronin. This type of writing opened me up to a new style of composing that I am not familiar with. I really enjoyed being able to show my view of whether I thought that this article was effective. Critisizing the writer for doing certain things was very interesting and made me feel more independent and powerful. I did not like that I could not use my personal opinion but could use what I thought as the audience of the paper. This confused me at first but I eventually understood the reasoning behind it. Throughout the campaign, Donald Trump’s Anti-Muslim rhetoric, appeared to go against the American ideals of protecting religious freedoms. Transferring to California State University, Sacramento was the most optimal decision that I have made recently this year and so far, it has been an enjoyable yet compelling one because of the helpful environment around me. Compared to the other two colleges I attended in the past in Stockton, California, I believe Sacramento State University has better resources and opportunities to grow as a student. Some of the resources I have utilized here are the Writing Center and PARC, but I plan to branch out and explore many others I have heard about. Although my major is Mechanical Engineering, I still have other classes that I am required to take in order graduate in Spring of 2020, such as English 109W for my undergraduate GWAR. A rhetorical situation is basically an event that consists of at least one person trying to change the perspective of another person. Looking at the definition, is it true that the tone changes in different rhetorical situations, depending on what is happening and what is being discussed in that period of time.
