I am Finn Walter I am attending Estrella Foothills High school. It is my first year attending the school. I am writing to you about your campaign. I have looked through some of your interviews and I have looked at one of your campaign posters. And I have some suggestion that might help reach out to younger voters. The Poster I saw was very plain and had only "Vote Georgia Lord" On it . The Word Choice and Tone of the poster help shows you are using ethos as a rhetorical devices. . Having only a few words on the poster shows that you are direct and to the point. By having just your name on the poster shows that you are reliable and credible. In your Interview with the West Valley view you use words and phrases like proud, heading in
So, the Republican National Convention is finally over! And I may sound like a broken record, but this really, bothered me. As you all have probably heard already, the whole thing was basically about fear.
Bernie is now posting his best poll numbers of the campaign to date. He's only 4 points behind in Iowa and gaining, solidly ahead in New Hampshire, and has national momentum, too. What Sanders needed to do Sunday night was maintain that momentum, continue his appeal to liberal base voters, and blunt any attacks that Clinton might be tempted to unleash at him. He accomplished all of that, even if he didn't give a focused, dominant performance. His release of his single-payer financing details denied Clinton a major attack line, he avoided getting bogged down in guns (clearly his worst issue from the Democratic base's perspective), and he struck an tone that made him seem relatively above the fray as Clinton tried out various critiques targeting
English classes are very important if you want to pursuit your academic goal, and there are a lot of things that I learned about academic writing in this semester. At first, I thought that it was going to be easy as long as I kept doing my brief assignments on time and showing up in classes. However, I was wrong, English is hard, especially if you are an international student because the methods of writing an essay are different. Though, I decided to take English 1301 because I wanted to be able to write something that would make it easier for a reader to understand, and of course to make me get good grades in other classes assignments. Also, because I didn’t know the difference between writing a rhetorical analysis essay and writing a normal
In Bj Gallagher’s article “Donald Trump Is the Epitome of Everything the World Detests -- And Admires -- About America”(Sep.2, 2015), She Implies the positive and negative attributes in Donald Trump, and whether you should vote for him or not. Gallagher first demonstrates by showing the negatives of Donald Trump and his “arrogance” in an article written by Paul Thomas; Gallagher then argued the positive, admirable side of him by comparing his life to one we would all like to live, and to conclude she suggests that Trump is a “fresh breath of air” for millions of Americans by demonstrate that he is unique compared to past presidential leaders. Her purpose is to surpass his brash ego in order to to show he is worth putting your trust in.
College is one of the biggest financial burdens in today’s society for many. Since the recession, people often ponder what the best financial options for students looking to go to college are and what path they should take to get them there. Mike Rose, faculty member at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Karen Lawrence, the president of Sarah Lawrence College, have both written articles about this epidemic stating the advantages and some possible downsides to pursuing a higher education. During these articles, the two writers are trying to persuade their intended audience that college is an option that could be beneficial for them to take advantage of. They both have different
In their article, Students Step up to Lead Tech Implementation at Their Elementary School, Taryn Handlon and Tiffany Costa write about how TechXpert all started with an idea for prominent engagement. The Roosevelt Elementary School in Park Ridge, Illinois, had begun implementing new tools such as Chromebooks, Spheros, Dash and Dots, Cubelets, Snap Circuits, Osmos, Marble Mazes and a 3D printer to the classrooms, which highlighted the schools desire to collaborate technology with learning. This would not only transform the whole classroom environment, but also open the door for young students to explore computer science and technical engineering. The only issue seemed to be that teachers had no time to educate themselves on the tools and how
Presidential appeals for public support had become a commonplace in 1992. Some examples of going public are a special prime-time address to the nation, televised press conference, traveling outside Washington. to deliver a speech to a business or professional convention, and a visit to a day care center with network cameras trailing behind.
In Hillary Clinton’s campaign ad, she uses ethos and pathos to tear down Trump. She uses the story of man to make a point that Trump has no interest in Muslims.
It is said that people fear what they don’t understand. The unknown has always inspired anxiety in us as a species. Feelings such as that are to be expected, even healthy, to have. If we had no fear, it is quite unlikely humans would have survived until now. Self-preservation is paramount to survival; yet, in the era in which we live it is often used against us. Fear mongering is a device used by advertisers, media, and politicians. Russia’s government is a perfect example, as mentioned in Maia Szalavitz’s essay, of how fear can blind one to long-term damage while concentrating on instantaneous threats. Governments such as Russia’s use so called politics of fear as a weapon to maintain control over their people by repressing or removing those who oppose them; this is exceptionally evident in the assassination of Putin critic, Boris Nemtsov (Gel’man 8).
about all the rancor surrounding Trump’s hostile discourse even though it affected minorities like me and my family. Besides, I’m not keen on sugarcoating all the nasty comments, as I do not wish for my children to get in the habit of whitewashing inconvenient truths.
“A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of Communism.” This is the opening line of Karl Marx’s famous Communist Manifesto and in 1848, when it was written, Communism was haunting Europe, though not nearly so much as it would nearly a century and a half later, at the height of the Cold War. Under the looming threat of nuclear holocaust, the bitter conflict between the west and the communist world seemed intractable, omnipresent and all consuming. Fear of communism reached hysterical levels with McCarthyism in the United States; similar movements throughout the west leeched off of the paranoia and despair of a world seemingly condemned to interminable war. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Soviet Union, the triumph of the market economy and the official end of the Cold War, the fear of Communism has dropped from our collective psyche. In its place, however, has emerged a new spectre for the twenty-first century- the spectre of Islam. Within this position paper I will be proving how the political rhetoric from the most recent U.S presidential election plays a role in fuelling the occurrences of Islamophobic hate crimes around the world. Political rhetoric during elections serves as a way for a candidate to attempt to sway voters opinions and get
Yes it is and unfortunately the US election was heavily influenced by people's emotions. When you separate the emotional content coming from your 'heart' from the logic dictated by your brain, one can make a rational decision based on reason and evidence which underlies the facts.
Elections are a time of competition between two candidates. They bring about controversy and criticism. Neither candidate is necessarily the candidate of choice. In Neshoba county Mississippi 2015, Attorney general republican candidate, Mike Hurst, gives a brief, nondescript speech on why he should be elected as the attorney general in the state. Hurt uses limited experience, a narrow amount of statistics. He is putting his message out by compelling his audience by using emotionally evoking word choice to persuade fellow Mississippians that he cares about the state, the state's people, and the he is the candidate of choice.
It is very common among the United States’ political sphere to rely heavily on T.V. commercials during election season; this is after all the most effective way to spread a message to millions of voters in order to gain their support. The presidential election of 2008 was not the exception; candidates and interest groups spent 2.6 billion dollars on advertising that year from which 2 billion were used exclusively for broadcast television (Seelye 2008.) Although the effectiveness of these advertisements is relatively small compared to the money spent on them (Liasson 2012), it is important for American voters to think critically about the information and arguments presented by these ads. An analysis of the rhetoric in four of the political
It says the message wasn’t authorized by any of the candidates and that it was funded by another organization. This shows that it might not be the most trustworthy video and could be bending the truth a little. Besides this, another problem was that it took bits and pieces of people talking and the audience doesn’t know whether or not they are talking about the subject at hand. I did find several strengths, however. Throughout the video, there was evidence given as to why Hillary is a bad person. To back these claims up, they fill in with reports, statistics, and also live footage of Hillary’s lies that countered previous things she had said. There is also a lot of pathos that is created in the video, and through this, the ad can capture the audience’s attention. They use a picture of a hungry boy holding a sign that has powerful words on it, motivational music, and throughout the whole video, there was multiple pictures that made the audience form an emotional connection through
