Pitts utilizes rhetorical questions to make an obvious point to the readers that America has not fallen apart, but has come together and become stronger as a nation. “What lesson did you hope to teach us by your coward’s attack on our World Trade Center, our Pentagon, us? Based on the evidence, Pitts poses an obvious question to the reader that the attack on American soil will not change America because they will strongly withstand in their position. Pitts asks the reader to reflect and make a visible emphasis on how the attack has brought America together like a family, because now they are stronger than ever. Evaluating from America’s history, giving up will never be the answer for Americans. “Did you want us to tear apart? You just brought
Tuesday morning, September 11 of 2001, referred to as a day to remember, the twin towers were attacked by terrorists in a hijacked plane. Thousands of lives were lost and it was a day that brought great sorrow to America. George W. Bush, the president at that time, addressed his speech to America as a nation, giving them hope that the events that took place earlier that day would not shake them but that they would come back stronger. In this essay I will evaluate Bush’s formal 9/11 Address to the Nation and discuss the speaker’s appeals to pathos, logos and ethos to convey his message that America can stand tall as one.
The Oklahoma City Bombing would be considered the worst terrorist attack on America prior to the 9/11 World Trade Center attack. Just outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, on April 19th, 1995 a truck exploded, killing 168 people. 19 of those 168 being children. The explosion caused damage to 300 surrounding buildings. Oklahoma City was going through a tragedy and needed guidance from a leader.
The morning of 9/11 I wasn’t going to go to work because I had an allergy appointment,
On February 26, 1993 at 12:18 pm in New York City, the first call was received at the Central Office from a street alarm box at the corner of West and Liberty Streets. The call was reporting a possible transformer vault (or manhole) explosion on West Street near the World Trade Center. As manhole explosions are common in wet whether, there was no hint of a major catastrophe until the phones never ceased to ring after aid had arrived to the site. Numerous phone calls continued, now reporting smoke in the towers of the Trade Center as far up as the 33rd floor within the first three minutes of the explosion (http://members.aol.com/fd347/wtc.htm). The ceiling then collapsed in the train station, which
9/11 was a very traumatic event in the United States. On 9/11, a series of terrorist attacks took place. There were a total of four hijacked planes that was involved with this historical event. Two planes went right for the World Trade Center or the “Twin Towers.” A hijacker flew the third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania. Thousands of lives were ended that day. On the night of September 11, 2001 at 8:30 PM, the whole nation came together to listen to President George W. Bush’s speech. His use of ethos and pathos is good for explaining the issue and being able to talk about what has happened. His use of logos, or logic, is successful because he gives reasoning for what he did when the attacks first happened and how he handled everything.
Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired him as a security consultant in order to assess the building 's security. Although no arrests had yet been made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover in several mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the character of an anti-American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He concluded that the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New Jersey. Followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were subsequently convicted of the bombing.
On September 11th, 2001 tragedy struck, when two planes flew into the World Trade Center, a plane crashed into the Pentagon, and a plane that crashed down in Pennsylvania. These horrific acts of terrorism changed America into what it is today. It changed the way people thought about others and how equal the American people really are. The United States was in a panic and was ready to accuse others immediately. The Crucible showed us that a shocking, confusing event can make people almost go insane with fear. Many are willing to risk others lives to get their points across. This is when hysteria hit the town of Salem and later the United States. Hysteria is an exaggerated, uncontrollable emotion that usually specializes in a group of people. Like Salem people were accused and unjustifiably punished. The attack on the world trade center affected how many live their lives today both mentally and physically. Opinions like,“9/11 lead to mass hysteria because it was a horrible, sudden tragedy that many people did not see coming”(Maravilla,Perez,Avina, Pg 1). The long term effects of this incident were unnerving. The leaders of this society had to change how they protected this country and had to alter their immediate opinions of a certain people, in fact most people had to as well. The cause of the hysteria was just after the events occurred when the air became thick with worry and uneasiness. This tragic historical event caused several hundreds to live in fear for what “might be
George bush's speech to the nation on 9/11 in the white house was really assertive toward the united states it really calmed down America. He spoke about how everything will be ok because of how "we" are a united country. This speech really helped out with how everyone was acting at the time.
September 11, 2001. The day that changed this nation. Thousands of smart, intelligent, and hardworking citizens, that worked in: the World Trade Center, and Emergency Medical servicemen, lives were ended on this tragic date. Wall Street journalist, Michael Burkes, in his Commentary writing, “No Firemen at Ground Zero This 9/11”, recounts the horrific events that occurred on 9/11 and shows how brave the firefighters were. The firefighters were not invited to the tenth anniversary, instead wealthy citizens were.
Ever since Osama Bin Laden attacked the World Trade Center, America has not been the same. The nation’s ideas of patriotism, democracy and worldviews have changed dramatically, though not for the better. The United States government has become more aggressive, selfish, and suspicious. The people are becoming massively fearful, angry and confused. The image of America to the other nations is becoming distorted and untrue. Our media and our administration’s personal agenda are affecting the people of the United States drastically in their ability to feel safe in their own country. However, there is always a light at any dark hall. The United States need to take drastic steps in turning this awful image of America into a good one,
The United States of America is a global power and had been for many years and as a result of that the U.S. has had to deal with global threats ranging from war threats to bombings and attacks. In this essay I will analyze and talk about how the U.S. responded to the attack on Pearl Harbor, The Cuban Missile Crisis, and the attack on the Twin Towers.
Subsequent to 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center (WTC), which compelled the U.S. to imagine the inconceivable, because that day things went really wrong. That was the day that terrorist decided to make their presences know by attacking us. They evolved from using bombs to using airplanes to deliver as their attack weapon because it would cause lethal fatalities on U.S. soil. This was never done before and we were not prepared to handle such a massive attack. This paper will investigate what went wrong before and after 9/11, surveillance surge, and what was the problem, with the CIA and the FBI regarding communication with each other, the dissemination of information to first responders, and recommendation for changes to policies that are obsolete. We understand that local law enforcement and state agencies will bring specific advantages (their strength) from their organizations, and they will also bring their inherited weaknesses. But, they will also bring one important thing to the table which is, how they collect local intelligence; and being able to address some of their organization’s weaknesses, and how they can fully use any data they collect before and after 9/11. This paper builds and contributes to how things were before and after 9/11, and the types of changes that were made in law enforcement, CIA.,
In what is considered to be the most devastating event in history, and the largest terrorist attack in American history, the New York Trade Center was rammed by jetliners just three days ago, creating an inconceivable scene seemingly from a movie. Ash, fire, glass, shrapnel, screams, sirens, and terror filled the streets of New York City after 19 terrorists from the group, al-Qaeda took control of two jets and flew them into the North and South tower on the morning of September 11th, 2001. An official death toll has not yet been reported as bodies are constantly being discovered throughout the disastrous scene. There is presumably many individuals that were stuck inside as there was no time to prepare for the roof to cave in on top of
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel American resolve”
September 11, 2001, marked a tragic event in U.S. history. An American Airlines Boeing 767 carrying thousands of gallons of jet fuel crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact left a burning hole near the 80th floor of the skyscraper, instantly killing hundreds of people and trapping hundreds more in higher floors. As the evacuation of both towers got underway, live news feed streamed in images and videos to the public of what initially appeared to be a freak accident. Then, 18 minutes after the first plane hit, a second Boeing 767–United Airlines Flight 175–appeared out of the sky, turned sharply toward the World Trade Center and sliced into the south tower near the 60th floor. The collision caused
