Questions for Rhetorical Analysis:
Take a moment and write an answer to this question: In what ways have your ideas on the issue been changed, if at all? If they have, or you have learned some valuable information, then the essay was successful to some degree.
The ideas of the issue has not motivated me in any way to change the ideas I already have. I did however learned some new information. I thought the writer made some important points in this paper. However, these points were not a strong argument to change my mind on the matter of immigration.
The kairotic moment and writer?s motivating occasion-
What motivated the writer to produce this piece?

Pathos of the argument-

Writer?s style-
How well does the writer?s tone (attitude toward the subject) suit the argument?
Overall persuasiveness of the argument-
What features of this argument contribute most to making it persuasive or not persuasive for its target audience and for you?
There were features throughout the this argument that made it persuasive, but not enough to convence me of there virews. As for the audiemce, I think the arguments brought out by the writer might casue people to look at immigration in a different why. One poin that made the argument stand out was the writers background. The writer is a professor of history at the University of Chicago, where she specializes in immigration studies. I think this stood put the must from the rest of the writers argument. The writer is convience that immigrate is good in our country, so the readers should have to assume that immigration is good for this this country economically. The writer?s purpose in writing the paper is to, changed how we view immigrant.
As I previously aforementioned, both authors’ had the same view. Both of the authors, Quindlen and Kennedy, view our country as having been built of immigrants;
The United States of America is a country with a growing population. The population has always been growing, ever since the welcoming of new comers to the United States. Some people see these immigrants as beneficial to the American people and some see them as a threat to the Americans. Respectively, give good reasons, and some do not.To begin, I will present to you two written pieces. The first one will be by former president Bill Clinton, in how immigration benefits America. This writing piece begins with an introduction to the issue, diversity and immigration. Clinton addresses the American people by claiming, “If both citizens and immigrants do their part[s], [America] will grow even stronger in the new global information economy”. Clinton then gives some major reasons to his claim. The first one is in how the cooperation of citizens is necessary in order to be united with the immigrants and be strong. The second point Clinton wants to show how immigrants are good for America, by suggesting that they energize the American culture and renewing American values. Clinton then gives evidence in how this is true by introducing the Gibson family and counter augmenting the fact that immigrants take more than they give. Clinton then comes to another point by suggesting that union is only possible if the American citizens share the nation. Clinton then continues to show what some responsibilities of the American citizens are by reminding them of the Declaration of independence
Edward Alden explains in his article the positives and the negatives of our current way of dealing with immigration and control. He gives a brief summary of the happening at the beginning of his paper and then expounds on each as he continues his article. Alden also present a well-organized abstract that gave a good overall view of the whole article as well as showing the purpose for which he is writing. The author presented each topic clearly and concisely.
This paper looks at the rhetorical style of three articles regarding immigration. The article have various viewpoints and each looks at different aspects of the immigration. The articles all have in depth analysis on the topic they are covering. I will look at each article by analyzing the way the article is presented. I will try not worry about the topic, but the style of the writing and tone. Each article has characteristics of audience and rhetoric which gives them a sense of credibility.
The article “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” was written by Jose Antonio Vargas. In it, Vargas tells of the time when his mother brought him to the Phillippines’ Ninoy Aquino International Airport when he was twelve. His mother told him that she wanted to give him a better life so he boarded onto a plane with a man he had never met before and was told that he was his uncle. He arrived in Mountain View, California and moved in with his grandparents Lolo and Lola. Vargas says that he grew to love his new home and when he entered sixth grade that’s when he found his passion for language. He tells of his struggle of making a distinction between “formal English and
In the article “Immigration Benefits America,” Bill Clinton; the forty second president of the United States claimed many revelations regarding immigrant’s impact in America. For several reasons, the U.S. strengthens the bonds of the community when allocating the allowance of diverse and varying cultures. Many of these immigrants feel comfortable while living in the United States. He asserted that Immigrants and Americans should blend their cultures and traditions to expand the country. As Americans, they should respect immigrants and in return immigrant should follow suit. On the other hand, in the article “Immigration Threatens American Culture,” Lawrence Auster, an American racialist conservative essayist who wrote on immigration and multiculturalism claimed that immigrants are destroying America and they are harming the economy. Auster believes that these problems are occurring because of the American belief system. The American belief system implies concepts of individualism and equality. Clinton’s argues a rather convincing argument throughout his writings, where prejudices and biases are not provided. On the other hand, Auster’s argument was very judgmental and oppressing in many ways.
Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump’s immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to take, especially when it comes to economic terms.
Questions for Rhetorical Analysis 1. What historical occasion gives rise to the need for investigation and the creation of this text? Gender Bias is being taught and occurs unintentionally in our schools. Teachers challenge boys more than girls. Sexism is so elusive, it is being taught every day and educators are not even aware they are doing it.
I agree with the article’s points about how immigration enriches our nation, brings diversity, and should be encouraged. But there are several points made in the article I feel to be in error. First, I disagree with the strong assertion that unrestrained immigration is the key to maintaining stagnant or declining population levels. The countries in the examples, Russia, Japan, and Europe, all have one thing in common: Their widespread birth-control practices and government-backed abortion programs.
Immigration seems to be a hot topic in the new right now. There seems to be this uneasiness in the public because the idea of people different than ourselves is startling to us, even though most of the public themselves are decedents from immigrants. News media and political representatives have made the choice to categorize these moving groups with metaphors surrounding water. Many believe that is it just the conservative side of politics that use these metaphors, but David Horsey (a political cartoonist) and Barack Obama have both used water to describe immigrants. This issue needs to be addressed because immigration is not going to stop anytime soon. I want to argue that the flood and wave metaphors are not productive because they (i) dehumanize
In terms of the presentation, the author’s tone is very pessimistic, negative and extreme. It could be seen that the author is very opposed to the immigration to America. He also fears the immigration will destroy American culture. He even uses some words, which could obviously express his emotions, such as negative, threat, fear, defenseless, tragic error, abandon the temporary idea. (Auster, 2002) The overall essay gives reader a sense of skepticism and. Though the claim of the essay is very extreme, and the evidence is not very supportive, the overall text is relatively well organized, because it has a clear
The information in Jordan’s article is well organized and laid out. As well as the issue are being addressed. Firstly, Jordan started the article with an overview of the issue on veteran immigrants. The overviews included information on the issue. Jordan’s article has usable information because it allows the audience to retrieve the information on immigrants. The design and page layout of the article is neat and tidy. The language and vocabulary Jordan used is easy to understand. The information is accessible because I can understand it and also because of its accuracy. The article does not contain any ambiguous information. It maintains a purpose and that is to provide me with information. Jordan article is a good example of usability. All of the information were consistent, it provides a good feedback of how the immigrant veterans felt, and the article is clear and a lot of residents are able to relate to it. The article was clear and concise. There were also a lot of information on immigrant veterans and deportation if a minor crime was committed. Overall, I believe that this article is a good example of technical
Immigration is a timely issue that took my interest, and being an immigrant it was the first topic that came to my mind for this problem-solution research paper. It is imperative that the citizens must know that there are underlying major problems that are associated with the current immigration policy of the country. Thus, the United States’ government must address this serious problem with the majority support of its citizens. By tackling the issue of immigration, it will not just resolve one problem, but the elemental aspects that go along with it as well. The main objective of this argument paper is to increase awareness by presenting the opposing arguments concerning immigration. Also, to help enlighten the minds of the people, and
The speech was about illegal immigration over the past few years of within United States. The rising number of illegal immigration has been one of the most pushing issues affecting U.S. legislators. The illegal immigrant comes to U.S. for various reasons. The lecturer said some people left their original nation to seek for a better lifestyle and others may say for religious reasons or just to get away while other people come for more possibilities or better education. The lecturer then asked us “Do you support the law stating that illegal immigrant must be sent back to their original country? Should we have sympathy for illegal immigration actions?” On my own perspective, I think the law should have more tolerance on the illegal immigrants.
“Immigration is an agent of change, as it disturbed the status quos and existing demographic in these 3 communities. This is not to say that immigration itself is inherently provocative, but simply that it initiates change to a community.” By ("Nations Borders”) In different areas, immigration becomes a huge issue. The community can become really crowded and over time, the population increases by high amounts. People around the community can soon become bothered by all these immigrants and try to take action in to their own hands. For example, the immigrant’s neighbors and co-workers will try to deport them or take advantage of them. “Although economic and demographic realities may support opening doors for immigration, such arguments mean little to voters who feel they are losing out. One poll found that more than 15 percent of Americans say they know someone who has lost a job to an immigrant, or say they have suffered such a loss. Such citizens wonder, “Why should I pay the cost of immigration? What about me?” according to the (“Why Does”). When more immigrants immigrate to our communities, they begin to annoy people. They could make a negative impact on jobs throughout the country.
