George bush's speech to the nation on 9/11 in the white house was really assertive toward the united states it really calmed down America. He spoke about how everything will be ok because of how "we" are a united country. This speech really helped out with how everyone was acting at the time. Bush uses many devices such as pathos when he repetitively talks about what the tragedy of what just happened. Bush uses pathos when he says "These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and defeat, but they have failed. Our nation is strong"(Bush 7-9). Bush uses pathos to get the effect of how the audience feels about the world and our nation. Bush also uses logos when he asks for the audiences prayers "Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened" ( Bush 36-37). When bush says" The pictures of the airplanes flying into building's fires burning, huge – structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief , terrible sadness, and quiet, underlying angle" (6-9). Bush's reason for including such complex syntax in this speech is because he is a really good speaker and he had to calm down America after this tragedy so he put all of the sad things in one sentence so he can just get it over with. Bush also uses signs of parenthesis in his text to add meaning in his sentences or put more information into a sentence to really elaborate on the subject.
