The author, Jonathan Edwards, uses pathos to express God's malevolence towards the sinners for what they have done in the fact that they don't praise him.
The purpose of God having so much hatred was to eliminate those who didn't believe in
Christ. He wanted the people to be on his side or otherwise they will be sent away or banished. I feel he has some type of pain or guilt that takes over and the only way to deal with it is through anger which ends up hurting other people. Or maybe, he's been through the same thing and doesn't want others to do the same. Hatred is a strong feeling, it can be hard to control, but there's always a better way to cope with it.
He argues towards the sinners to express the way he feels about them and what he'll do to get what he wants. Can God ever get

The purpose of glittering sword was to show a sharp type of pain hanging you from God's hands waiting to drop you to where you belong without hesitation. He wants you to fear him because he has the power to make you and/or break you. I wonder if sinners changed so they won't be targeted or accept their fate for standing up for what they believe in.
He creates an image to give you a visual of how things would go if someone wasn't under his rule. He also gives us an image to have a better understanding of imagery. Is this cruel punishment really necessary? Could it become any worse?
The purpose of God's power is to show how he can take your life into his own hands by crushing it and hear you weep while others are enjoying their lives they still value. What would
God be without his power? Will he still be able to punish sinners some other way?
He uses this metaphor to show the up and downside to what the sinners life would be like with a hint of exaggeration. Will the sinners ever give up and be under God's rule? I feel they should have some kind of an agreement to avoid conflict.
The author uses pathos for all topics to indicate God's malevolence toward the
In the moral sense, we understand God is all powerful, and it humbles us that this mighty God would deal with and interact so graciously and kindly with us, His creation.
The reason for telling you that it's “god's hand” that is the only thing between you and
That is complete insanity. How dare we lay all the evil of the world at the feet of God! It just doesn't make sense! He so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.
The asserted meanings of God illustrate that God is omnipotent, which means God can carry out any course of action and there will always be a valid reasoning behind it. “For the world had been fashioned by the God who not only meted out the heavens with a span, but who goodness endured forever” (278). God created the world by all means and Jews are not expected to renounce their interest because it leads to other beliefs that follow the resurrection of the body and social reform. Another meaning of God that elucidates through contextual evidence is that God is omniscient he knows everything even if an event hasn’t occurred
God is a God of justice and sin has to be punished. As it isn't fully
Instead of becoming God, becoming against him. God has the power to do good. It is morally impossible for Him to sin.
However, since God is a spirit and in fact the Creator of man, whose faculty of
Everyman represents human beings by him being sinful, most of us humans don’t live a sinful life like he once did but we are all not perfect and we do sin once in a while. Everyman lived purely to his own pleasure. Said in line 40 – “ Everyman liveth so after his own pleasure, and yet of their life they be nothing sure.” And that’s what people now and days do.
First of all, compulsion is not the nature of God, and it’s certainly not in His character to force one into doing His will.
Jer 26:3 Perhaps they will listen and each one will turn back from his evil way, and I will change my mind concerning the calamity that I intend to bring on them because of their evil deeds. (Calamity conditional)
What is he telling them? He is speaking of the godlessness and the wickedness. What the signs shown in the sinful world? They are godlessness and wickedness. What is godlessness? This is not retaining God in your heart. What is wickedness? Wickedness is the sinful actions because you do not want to retain God in your heart.
In religious terms, he writes about how the original sin meant humanity is forever wounded. This means we can distinguish right from wrong, but we will inevitably falter. The mercy of God is such that he sacrificed his Son, Jesus, to redeem humanity for its sins. And precisely because there is sin, God revealed himself as
His power and ability aren't fables or fairy tales; they are truth. He created the world, sustains it, cares for every person, and can impede the flow of His own natural laws by miracles. We do not always understand how or why all this can coincide. Nevertheless, the Bible declares that God has created everything, controls everything, and has made every person to be in His image and to love Him. Revelation 4:11 says, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” God has never dropped His creation and left us alone. As Hebrews 13:5 tells us, “...Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” He hasn't, nor ever will, kick us to the curb—as long as we trust in Him. Many still question whether it is reasonable to believe that a glorious God could ever have a relationship with sinful humans. Do not let these doubts diminish the clear message of Jesus, however. God is love. We have no doubt (if we believe the whole Bible) that a God of love is always seeking our devotion. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John
He uses blessing blockers or strongholds to get us off focus hoping we will just give up, cave in and quit on God. Blessing blockers can be emotional, spiritual, and/or physical that prevent you from from seeing the Truth (Jesus Christ), receiving God's love, and having healthy relationships. These things can be emotional, spiritual or physical and can even cause dis-ease in our
First of all, from my reading of the Old Testament, and specifically from the book of Exodus and the story of the Israelites, we get a glimpse of God’s true character. When the Israelites were still captives in Egypt, God saw them and said “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering” (Exodus 3:7). The Israelites had been crying out to God to rescue them for quite some time, and eventually, in His time, God was merciful and extricated them from the hands of Pharaoh. To begin, God has demonstrated his immense power by taking a
