Richard Schmitt believes that he’s not a hero. However he has served in the Air Force, helping his brothers and sisters get back home to their loved ones. As he came back to Manchester, IA he decided to volunteer at Community Congregational Church. Affecting children's lives and making them better. He continues to volunteer at the church and is heroic to many people. Richard Schmitt helps with the church, went into the air force, and has been a role model to many. Schmitt has influenced my family, the church family, and many other families. That’s when he started to go to Community Congregational Church. And slowly got more and more involved with the church. This shows how Richard Schmitt has a big impact on his family and it must have been very difficult for them.
Richard Schmitt’s involvement with Community Congregational Church here is a great pleasure to many people. According to Sandra Dobmeier, as you volunteer you get to see the smile you bring to everyone. Those smiles make the job phenomenal (Dobmeier “Volunteer to Make a Difference”). Schmitt has been a volunteer for many years. Making kids smile and laugh. Which makes his day amazing and joyful. Richard Schmitt is a trustee at the church. Which is a person that helps with what to improve on the church or how to make sure the church gets enough money to run. He has been doing this for more than 20 years helping every day if there is help needed or if there are meetings held at the church. This shows that Schmitt has some sacrifices in his life and is heroic for doing these jobs.
Schmitt faced many obstacles as he became part of the Air Force. He had to leave his family, friends, and was all alone because he didn’t know anyone. But he knew he wanted to help people. A heroic researcher Philip Zimbardo said, Heroic people can feel what people in need feel. They care and feel concern for them (Cherry, “Seven Qualities of Heroism”).
