Throughout my life I’ve always been a huge fan of the NBA and the point guard position always seemed to intrigue me the most. Guys like John Stockton and Jason Kidd always garnered my attention, however, today’s point guards are even more flashy and talented. Ricky Rubio is a prime example of what I’m talking about here, this kid can dish the rock like no other.
Nowadays point guards have transitioned more into a prominent scoring role within their offense. It’s nothing for Chris Paul to score 25 or 30 points in a game, don’t even get me started on Russell Westbrook. Rubio is a different story, though. He dazzles us with his no-look passes, tosses the ball between the defenders legs and actually plays defense. It honestly brings me back to

At the time, I didn’t know how big of a superstar he would become or even if he would have any fantasy relevance at all. Rubio has proven himself as a commodity for not only the Timberwolves but also our fantasy lineups. He can pull off triple-double type numbers for you on a nightly basis.
Rubio sports a career stat line consisting of 10.2 points, 8.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Will these stats get him in the NBA hall of fame? No, but a spot on my fantasy team this year will have to do. In your typical head-to-head category fantasy basketball league, every single stat count and Rubio can pad each and every one of them for you. His stat line alone is enough to predict a breakout year for Rubio, however, there’s more to strengthen my argument.
Minnesota’s lineup is filled to the brim with players just oozing talent on the court. There are crafty veterans Kevin Martin and Kevin Garnett, who anchor the team down. Last season a crop of new talent surfaced in the city with names such as Zach LaVine and Andrew Wiggins. The Timberwolves also drafted an ultra-talented big man out of the University of Kentucky in Karl-Anthony Towns. Surrounding Rubio with this many options to pass the ball to is just asking for his assist totals to drastically increase. Rubio stated just the other day how he thinks Wiggins will be a future MVP, he’s going to help him get
Russell Westbrook is one of the most exciting players to watch as he electrifies the building with his ferocious dunks. After being left by Kevin Durant, Westbrook has been breaking all kinds of records and leading the Thunder to the playoffs. Next time you see number zero on your T.V screen, grab your popcorn and take a seat, because it’s showtime! (Jenkins)
This season, LaVine has answered that question in a huge way as he is developing into a polished scoring threat for the Timberwolves, giving them another scoring option outside of Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony-Towns. This season, LaVine has upped his statistics across the board from last season. He is averaging 20.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 37.9 minutes per game. Along with his scoring going up, LaVine is shooting a career-best 47 percent from the field and shooting a respectable 38.6 percent from three-point range.
The 20+ point/15 rebound game came in Randle’s fourth career game, allowing him to join a short list (Shaquille O’Neal, Sharone Wright and Marc Gasol) of players to post that stat line, in their fourth career game, in the last 20 years.
Scottie Pippen, it’s hard to describe a man who for many people believed that he was a mere sidekick to Michael Jordan. By spending most of his career as the secondary option behind Jordan, many people fail to realize that without Pippen the Chicago Bulls potentially wouldn't have achieved a dynasty. Pippen once said: ‘’ Sometimes a player's greatest challenge is coming to grips with his role on the team.’’ He preferred it this way, quietly racking up impressive statistics while giving his teammates the spotlight. The 6-Time NBA Champion and all-leader in steals and assists among forwards, was one of the most versatile players in NBA history. He averaged over 20 points a game alongside with 7 rebounds, yet was continually overlooked due one person, Michael Jordan. It wasn’t until when Pippen was assigned to guard Magic
With the major work he put in this offseason, Gordon game is expected to expand on both ends of the floor. Before he was known only as a leaper, today not only is he known as a high flyer, but he has transformed his game to one of the most explosive dynamic scorers in the league. He’s proven he can score consistently from all areas of the court. The most improved aspect of his game has been his three-point shooting, this season he is expected to hit the three at an efficient rate, possibly close to the league average. With his continued development expect to hear his name as it pertains to a possible All-Star
Chris Paul – 2003 also featured Chris Paul, who ls considered a once in a generation type of point guard. Today he’s the standard barrier of NBA point guards in the mold of Isaiah Thomas. In 2003, he still was the standard for point guards. He was the best point guard in his high school class despite being ranked as the 6th best point guard in the class of 2003. You read that right, sixth! Guys like Mustafa Shakur, and Aaron Brooks were ranked ahead of Paul. No disrespect to those guys, but Paul was light years ahead of them. During the 2003 Jordan Brand Classic he scored 18 points and dished out five
Recently, Rick Nash has had a habit of alternating good, nearly point-per-game seasons with mediocre showings, but the last few seasons have shown how little he has left in the tank.
At tenth Greg Monroe of the Milwaukee Bucks is the tenth best center in the NBA. Averaging about 13points,7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks in the 30 minutes per game that he plays. He is not so bad, but should be recognized for the good things, like when he recorded a season-high 29 points and 12 rebounds in a game which brought the team to the playoffs that season. I think that he should be more
He developed his outside shooting when his team competed in the Big 12. He hit more shots from beyond the arc than any other basketball player out there, except for Buddy Hield of Oklahoma. Not only he developed his outside shooting, but his defensive abilities as well. It happened during his career after a couple of years of being with the team. He's a pretty solid defender which is a plus and an advantage for the team. He believes that defense is one of the big keys to the team's success. Not only that, he believes that defense wins games and it's the best offense that you've got. No matter how many points you scored, you can't win without playing defense at all.
He is only averaging 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, but the energy he gives the Sixers cannot be determined by numbers. Saric and Embiid are having great rookie seasons that are making players like TJ McConnell and Robert Covington play better.
The most talked about person of the summer, Lonzo Ball, painted the picture of a star, earning himself the second pick of the 2017 NBA draft, only to downplay his expectations. Lonzo Ball is the NCAA’s best passer, averaging the most assists ever as a freshman in the PAC 12. Beginning his NBA career, he downgraded his assist numbers, scoring numbers, and lowered his field goal percentage by almost 25% (ESPN). Lonzo’s college stats raise the eyebrows of many greats, but his NBA stats have shown signs of bust.
There hasn't been a big man to enter the NBA with Okafor's this array of post moves, counter-moves and footwork down low since Tim Duncan, though his defense is in a different galaxy compared to Duncan's at this point.
Guys like Curry, Draymond Green and even Andre Iguodala all will steal looks away from him. Overall, the kid is phenomenal shooting the ball, but his other stats could use a bit of polishing. He should end up around the third ranked shooting guard in the league for me.
Some points are asked to be scorers and other are asked to hold their team down on the defensive end. In the article, On Point: Eight Characteristics of Great Point Guards , states “When you have a scoring point guard it just really puts pressure on the defense. It helps to open your entire offense. Normally you have other positions that are scoring positions, but when you have (a scoring point guard) it just naturally opens up your other shooters and your inside game.” ( Andy Streit). The more of a scorer the point guard is the more successful the other teammate will be. Point guard cannot always look to pass, they have to know how to penetrate into the defense, draw two defenders, and then a better pass will be open to another teammate.
Point guard is usually the fastest and shortest player on the team, this player organizes the team’s offense by controlling the ball and his usually the person to call plays.
