Curiosity is the best word to describe a mongoose, this is because mongooses like to explore the world around them and mongoose are so curious that they rarely get frightened, as also explained in the Rikki-Tikki- Tavi story. People around the world might know that every mongoose has to fight a snake once in a lifetime since mongoose like to eat snakes. Although some mongooses like to eat insects, lizards, birds, and rodents. While others like the Indian mongoose like to eat snakes especially cobras. Mongoose is the name for 29 out of 34 species located in southern Eurasia and Africa. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi the book, was created by Rudyard Kipling while the movie of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi has a different author. Although this noticeable difference …show more content…
The story only gives brief descriptions, but the movie adds or gives more detail to the setting. The story states that, “One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow…”(Kipling 143). While the movie represented the “high summer flood” as a thunderstorm, in a jungle( movie 00:21). If it was a high summer flood, then why would the movie include thunder noise or the noises of scarred animals(movie 00:29). This three evidence points out the difference of how a movie represents the wording of the story. In conclusion the setting of the story changes a little because the movie specifies the setting. Thirdly, the resolution of the story and the movie doesn't change, because both are part of the same story, if the resolution were to change, the story wouldn't make sense. Both medium resolutions are about what Rikki- Tikki did to defeat Nagaina, like killing her eggs. As the text shows, “ Nagaina saw that she had lost her chance of killing Teddy, and the egg lay between Rikki- Tikki’s paws”( Kipling 154). Another piece of evidence is shown in the movie, where Rikki- Tikki smashes the eggs, but keeps the last egg and shows the egg to Nagaina( movie 19:07). The resolution also has to do with how Nagaina died or how the text states never came back. As told by the story “ his little white teeth were clenched on her tail and he went down with her-and very few mongooses, however wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole”( Kipling 155). As
As there are various similarities, there are differences as well. One being that in the book Rikki-tikki-tavi and Nag duel when they initially meet with the help of Nagaina(Book). This scene helps build up the rivalry of the snakes and Rikki-tikki. The scene provides a simpler way to see why Nag and Nagaina dislike the mongoose, along with other lines. “When the house is emptied of people, he (Rikki-tikki) will have to go away and the garden will be ours again.” (Kipling 150) Nag and Nagaina want power. Before Rikki-tikki was found and taken to live in the bungalow, the snakes had the animals bowing down to them. In the movie there was no duel and the understanding of the rivalry is gone. Rikki-tikki and the snakes hold a lousy relation, the snakes try to kill his family in order to get rid of him. Without the image of the creatures hostility the snakes
Rikki-tikki-tavi was willing to risk his life for his family and others around him. Though Rikki Tikki is small animal, that doesn’t mean he can’t do big things that could change and save lives. The love in his heart is too big to be contained, so his love expresses itself by making him courageous and brave for his family. In society people tend to underestimate animals like Rikki but he is a guardian angel watching over the home of his family. Rikki Tikki Tavi is a hero in the story. He killed the cobra snakes to protect his family of birds from the whispers of death.
The story Rikki-tikki-tavi by Rudyard Kipling is about the rivalry between Rikki, a small mongoose and Nag and Nagaina, two king cobras. A giant wave flushes Rikki out from his warm, cozy den and leaves him on the river bank near Teddy’s family’s garden. Rikki is taken in and cared for, by Teddy’s family. While exploring the garden he confronts two king cobras Nag and Nagaina. If Rikki does not kill the snakes, the garden creatures will fall prey to the cobras! This exciting story also became a motion picture movie. The story and the movie are similar in plot but contain some notable differences, including where Rikki finds Teddy in the bath and that Nagaina waits for one of

The storyline does not change at all. In the book, the first problem that Rikki Tikki comes across is his home being flooded and being washed away. According to the book, it tells you, “One day, a high summer flood washed him out of the burrow where he lived with his father and mother…”(Kipling, 143) This shows that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was washed out of his home and carried away by the flood. In the movie, there is a scene where he is being washed away from his burrow. (Kipling, 00:45-1:00)Another situation is that in the book, Rikki Tikki finds out Nagaina’s eggs are by the watermelon patch. So, he goes and kills all the eggs. The movie shows a scene where Rikki Tikki is destroying the eggs. Lastly, in the story it explains,”He held on savagely and stuck out his feet to act as brakes on the dark slope of the hot, moist earth.” (Kipling 155) In the movie it shows a scene where Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is holding onto Nagaina and trying to stop her by shoving his feet in the ground to slow them down. The storyline within the movie and book does not change one
