Nestled between the rolling hills of North Georgia is the little town of Ringgold, Georgia. This town, although small in size, has had a significant historical impact in the region. It has also started admirable patriotic traditions emulated by cities surrounding the town. From its role in the Civil War to its modern day impact on local culture and tradition, the town of Ringgold has remained a trailblazer for the local area. Ringgold Impacted the Civil War: There are several ways that the little town of Ringgold changed the course of history during the tumultuous time of the Civil War. During the war, Ringgold found itself in the middle of some of the bloodiest battles of the war. As a result, several buildings in the town—some of which are still standing today-- were turned into hospitals for the wounded. Of course, Ringgold hosted more than just the sick and infirmed; it also was center stage for one of the most notable events of the Civil War, the great locomotive chase. The Great Locomotive Chase: Led by civilian scout James J. Andrews, several members of the Union Army commandeered the locomotive, called General, from the Big Shanty (which is modern day Kennesaw, a …show more content…
However, its emphasis on patriotism has not waned. Each Veteran’s and Memorial Day, there are thousands of flags, sat atop cross markers that are set out throughout town. Each cross has a name of a soldier and their branch of service. Many of them did not die in service, but instead came back home to live in peace the rest of their lives. However, each flag represents a person who has passed on. The site of the thousands of flags draws attention and admiration from the surrounded towns and even other states. The patriotism shown by the town of Ringgold to continue this ever growing tradition is admirable. After all, no citizen is paid to put up or to take down these thousands of flags twice
1607-1776 also known as the colonial period is a time of new beginnings. When the colonists first moved from England to the new world, they were in search of freedom in every sense of the word. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and being free of the British tirade. They formed cities and towns while establishing their own laws. The issue that occurred is that while the colonists were away from Britain they weren’t away from British laws. In an effort to control and make money from the colonists Britain issued a series of tax acts which include the Stamp Act, the Sugar Act, and the Tea Act. All of which led to the colonists revolt against British reign. This new search for independence is what
The name Civil War is misleading because the war was not a class struggle, but a sectional combat, having its roots in political, economic, social, and psychological elements. It has been characterized, in the words of William H. Seward, as the “irrepressible conflict.” In another judgment the Civil War was viewed as criminally stupid, an unnecessary bloodletting brought on by arrogant extremists and blundering politicians. Both views accept the fact that in 1861 there existed a situation that, rightly or wrongly, had come to be regarded as insoluble by peaceful means.
The Civil War was provoked for several reasons which included industry, slavery, and territorial disputes among the Northern states and Southern states of the newly established United States. The first recorded engagement of war between the North and South is documented to have taken place on April 12th, 1861 at The Battle of Fort Sumter. This was the starting point of a war that would claim over 600,000 American lives in a relatively short span of 4 years.
take about hundred years later after the Civil War (1861-65) for the United States’ government to pass the Civil Rights Bill in 1964 recognizing the black community’s rights? Basically, the Civil War was about fighting for what kind of labor force was going to prevail. The north represented for a free labor economy while the South fought for the preservation of slavery. As Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor stated that the “wealth and power were not equally distributed in Southern society” (Yamahtta). While a small white proportion owned slaves in the South, the rest contributed in the southern society by maintaining order. In the North, free blacks were an obstacle for whites since they were constantly competing with each other for occupations. As a result, the
Before the Civil War, the North and South's attempt to resolve matters at any time was through compromise. One significant issue that could not have a solution found over time was slavery. Northerners supported the abolition of slavery. However, the South depended on slavery. As this conflict intensified, the South figured that compromise would no longer function. The South's breaking point was Lincoln's election. The South withdrew from the Union; the Civil War had begun. The South seceded from the Union because of opposition towards slavery, the fear that abolition of slavery was a threat to their way of life, and that Lincoln would get rid of it.
Factors that were the root of the Civil War were mainly economic and political differences. These differences increased sectionalism and tension in the United States; north versus south, each having different views on slavery, economy, and political policies. The inability to settle into a fair agreement resulted in the Civil War.
The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about differences in economies. The North economy was dependent on industrialization, while the South economy was dependent on agriculture (Document A). The North had a larger population because of immigrants migrating to the North. The reason why immigrants were migrating to the North was because since the North was more industrialised it had more factories and railroads that needed workers to operate. The South had a smaller population but did produce more cotton.
It is often misunderstood when determining what caused the American Civil War. There are many key components that led to the war between the Unions and the Confederates. The many components consists of unresolved constitutional issues, the economy, slaves, politics, and cultural components.
The Civil War lasted from 1861-1865. During this time period, the war was evenly fought between the South (Confederates) and the North (Union). The Confederate side allowed slavery and wanted the United States to go pro-slavery, while the North contained free states and was anti-slavery. The Civil War was a tough fight for both sides, resulting in heavy losses for the Confederates, as well as the Union. The South lost the War in 1861-1865 over the North due to their lack of industrialization, population and their loss of Britain and France’s support.
In the 1860s there was a war between the North and South otherwise known these two groups were known as the Union and the Confederates. This war was called the civil war, reasons of its occurrence may seem simple but there was complex reasoning that led to the occurence of the civil war. These events could include slavery, economic differences, and cultural differences. Many believe that the only cause for the civil war was slavery but there was much that went into the beginning of the civil war. It started as differences between their economies which include industrialization in the North and agricultural in the South. Then these differences evolved into different opinions on culture and politics. The final tipping point into the civil war
The battle of Bull Run ended today. Northerners, like myself, know it as Bull Run but the Confederates know it as Manassas. This battle is giving me bad thoughts about the outcome of this war. This was a Southern victory and the Confederate army looks high in spirit and high in confidence, compared to the hurt, tired, and disappointed North. The great leadership of the Confederate generals won this battle. Their plans and attacks were no match for the Union ones. I hope the North can do something to rebound from this great loss, maybe there will be a second battle.
In the mid to late 1700’s slavery was all around. Slavery had many despicable effects happen in America. There were many destructive acts made by human nature when it came to white americans. So in time slavery caused the bloodiest battle on american soil known as the civil war. Slavery has been a disgust happening that not only affected people but also mixed emotions and here are the reasons why.

In 1861, the American Civil War commenced after many years of tension building between the Northern and Southern states. The main reason of the tension was said to be the debate of slavery between the North and South, and although some documents support this claim, it is false. The war had been brewing since 1607, before slavery was even introduced to the colonies that would become the United States of America. The debate of slavery did play a major part in the civil war; however it did so in supporting the true cause of the civil war. The main cause of the American Civil War was not the debate of slavery, but rather Europe’s role in the American economy.
A battle, rather a war, has many important factors that lead to it. Likewise during a war there are a variety of essential utilities used such as weapons, leadership, tactics, and numbers. What might not come to mind is the object that provided shelter, break time, medical care and more. The forts during the Civil War provided all of these things as they were the home away from home for soldiers. After experiencing all mother nature has to offer shelter was often all a soldier could want. Rest and relaxation are necessary for anyone to get through the day and as a soldier a little time to yourself would make a huge difference on the battlefield. Some of the greatest battles of the Civil War were fought at the forts and to this day they are a symbol of the battles fought. What the forts provided to soldiers would seem minor to some today, but in a war the battle is not always won through the big guns, heavy artillery, and sheer number. The insignificant things tend to make the big difference because they end of effecting the big picture as much as the most thought of was of winning. During the American Civil War the forts were of great significance because of the shelter they provided, leisure time, and their service as a battlefield.
