Being homeless is often defined as “sleeping on streets” and most people in the society only regard homeless people to be uncouth, uneducated and drug addicts that are epidemic in the community, where many do not put into context any other reason as to why people become homeless. When I see someone experiencing homelessness, I questioned what led them to be homelessness. I questioned how come the most of country in the world have people experiencing homelessness. I remembered walking around downtown last summer, I was admiring how beautiful the city of Chicago is with its giant buildings, but when I noticed homeless people sleeping outside those buildings just made me question why people are sleeping outside those buildings. I thought it was just unfair in that purpose.

In Stanislaus county the homeless population has grown from 1,156 in 2005 to 1,800 today and still growing. Modesto had the highest count of homelessness with 983 documented homeless individuals according to a 2015 Modesto Bee study and sadly, the amount increases as surrounding areas begin to enforce strict laws. These laws criminalize and relocate homeless folk to our county. There are no exceptions to the cold reality of homelessness: men, women, children, military veterans, individuals, and families are included in the rising numbers of homelessness in Stanislaus County. According to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, the leading cause of homelessness in the United States is the lack of affordable housing. Exposing the problems and cause will allow us to figure out how we can work towards a solution. The answer to diminishing homelessness is to invest in permanent housing. By working together as a community and devising a plan, we could reduce and possibly end homelessness in Stanislaus County.

Homeless people are lacking shelter and we need a health beneficial , portable and with electricity. Homeless people need a home that’s portable.

Another factor contributing to the risk of homelessness is substance use. In the national survey completed by the Department of Veteran Affairs on homeless veterans, it was found that seventy-six percent of homeless veterans reported a substance abuse habit. Increasing the risk for substance use in veterans is if they have a co-morbid issues, such as PTSD. Veterans with co-morbid mental health issue are an extremely vulnerable population, placing them at a higher risk for homelessness.
