Road Not Taken Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken", written in 1920, shows that people have to make choices in their life, sometimes those choices being easier and others being impossible. In some situations, we are left with two choices that make us only choose one path and that path excludes the other forever. Over the past few weeks I have interviewed three people. Those people being my mom, my dad, and Mr. Branco. The first person I interviewed was my mom. She said that the biggest decision or her fork in the road moment was deciding to quit her serving job at Ferris Steak House to become a manager at Aladdin's Eatery. For years she waited on a couple that owned multiple restaurants in the Cleveland area. For many years they had asked my mom to work for them at Aladdin’s Eatery as a manager or a server. “I turned them down many times, mainly because I was nervous,” she said. After quite for a few years she finally …show more content…
He said his fork in the road moment was when he changed companies to go from Famous Dave’s to Ruby Tuesdays for a regional position and then back to Famous Dave’s. He thought that the decision would would be better for him to move forward in his restaurant career and for the family financially. The outcome of his decision was bad at first but turned out good. After changing companies he realized it was not the right decision for his career because the regional job was never actually gonna work out and the long hours away from home would put a strain on the family. My dad thinks that his first decision had good intentions because he was doing it for the family but, it was a better decision for him to move back to his old job because he got to do less work there but still got paid the same as before he went to switch companies. If he stayed true to his first decision of going to Ruby Tuesday’s then it would have been good for the family financially but, it would have been bad for us
In “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, we are given a piece of art that simply will leave you clueless unless, you understand the pain and frustration the man is going through; when choosing what route he feels will give him the most joy. In the poem a man is walking through the woods and he comes upon a fork. He who wants to take both roads chooses the route that he feels is traveled less on. Little does he know that both road have been equally traveled on. He who travels on the route that has fresher leaves lies to himself, by convincing himself that he will come back and take the other route. Though it was a very stressful and a hard decision for the man to make, many people are put into very similar situations like in John Updike’s A and P and as well as in James Joyce’s Eveline. Both Sammy and Eveline find it troubling to make a decision that will change their life completely.
In Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”, Frost shows the everyday human struggle to make a choice that could change the course of one’s life. In his poem, a person has the choice to take one road or the other. One road is worn out from many people taking it, and the other is barely touched, for fewer have taken that road. Throughout the poem, the speaker learns that just because so many other people have done one thing, or walked one way, does not mean everyone has to. Sometimes you just have to go your own way.
he wasn't accepted in any college due to failing most of his classes and his mom wasn't happy about that, so of course she forced him to find a job and think of his future, but the thing is he really didn't know what to do with his future.
The poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost describes the dilemma in decision making, generally in life each individual has countless decisions to make and those decisions lead to new challenges, dilemmas and opportunities. In Frost’s poem, the careful traveler observes the differences of each path, one is bent and covered in undergrowth (Frost 5) and the other is grassy and unworn (Frost 8). In the end he knows he can only choose one of the paths, after much mental debate he picks the road less traveled and is well aware that he will likely never return to experience the other. By examining Frost 's "The Road Not Taken," we get a deeper understanding of
Life is teeming with choices. Starting the moment one is born and until their time of death, people have to make constant choices everyday. Life can be imagined as a long, tortuous highway that has countless other roads branching off in several directions. A human's existence is too short to test every road. Ultimately, the choices we make affect every outcome in life. In the poems, “The Road Not Taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost, there is a similar theme that depicts the challenges that humans face throughout their lives. Both of these poems use similar literary techniques to present the struggle the speaker has to face when making decisions. Once a path is chosen, one cannot turn back and erase the experiences that occurred along the way.
Response #2 Innocent and Experience Unit Perhaps you were in a kayak and you had come to a split in the river with two choices. Should you, the traveler, take the route most traveled by or the route least traveled by? Humans by nature are very curious and perhaps in an act of defiance to the norm, you rowed towards the route least taken with the attitude of the men who discovered the new world. Congratulations! As you have now gotten your kayak stuck in a grass marsh.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost is a well known poem that has been analyzed numerous times by a variety of individuals at different stages in their lives. Although this poem can be applied to different stages in life, it has a strong correlation between college students and choosing their career path. Therefore, as a college student myself, I chose to analyze this poem as I have reached a few forks in the road recently in relation to deciding the routes I want to take towards my career. The title of the poem, “The Road Not Taken”, reveals that the narrator regrets not taking a certain road. This can be deduced from his use of the word not instead of an alternative such as less traveled.
In Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken,” the narrator of the poem analyzes his situation thoroughly prior to choosing his path. His process can be seen in several lines of the poem. For example, his decision begins, “And be one traveler, long I stood.” Similar to making any life altering decision, the narrator takes time rather than rushing in to his path. He weighs the options of each path (decision) as he “looked down one as far as [he] could…Then took the other, as just as fair.”
Thesis: In the poem “A Road Not Taken”, Robert Frost shares how sometimes in life one has to make decisions rather they’re good or bad. However there are consequences following one’s decisions and choices. One can use their second chance by looking forward and choosing to take the right paths in life.

‘The Road Not Taken’ is without doubt one of the most famous and well-known poems in the world. It was written by Robert Frost and published in 1916. The poem introduces a man who needs to choose between two roads while strolling in an autumn forest. An autumn forest is implied because of “yellow wood” (line 1). The man had a totally different life after he chose the road. However, the poem is not merely about a man walking a road. It is about how life is full of choices and chances will not return. Structure-wise, the poem is in first-person view and the speaker is conflicted. Both poems consist of 4 stanzas of 5 lines. Ultimately, the poem focuses on how people must make choices in life. The main theme of the poem is “seize the day” or “Carpe

Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken,” is a literary masterpiece. It is a poem that will span the decades as one of the most influential pieces of writing in the early 1900’s. However, with such popularity of a piece comes a lot of misunderstanding of the true meaning of the work. The debate over the poem’s interpretation and tone are still disputed among scholars and has caused a great deal of confusion over the years. Many students and teachers alike interpret this poem as a philosophical one describing how choices can greatly impact a life and its outcomes. However, the poem was truly written for Frost’s best friend, Edward Thomas, to poke fun at him for his decision-making skills (Smallwood). Although this piece of poetry is widely misinterpreted, Robert Frost uses excellent symbolism, irony, and tone to show that not all literary pieces are profoundly life changing.
Poetry is a powerful medium of expression which has existed in all cultures for centuries.
