1. In the video, Robert Cialdini highlights the six principles of influences and briefly explains scenarios of each. The six principles are as follows: Reciprocity, Scarcity, Commitment and Consistency, Consensus or Social Proof, Authority and Liking. Reciprocity refers to paying back what we received from others. Scarcity is being attracted to things that are hard to come by and are rare. Commitment and Consistency is sticking to what we have already decided on. Consensus or Social Proof is trusting people who are considered experts, authorities, or peers because they are popular or because you confide in them. Authority is following and listening to people who have a title or wears clothing showing they are in charge. Liking is complying …show more content…
Reciprocity – the desire to give back to someone who gave to us. Example in the workplace: At Chili’s we offer a ten percent discount for active and retired military personnel’s. My one manager Joey, will randomly pick one military family each week and instead of offering just the ten percent discount, he will comp their whole bill. By them risking their life and protecting our freedom, my manager feels the desire to give back by letting them eat on the house. Liking – saying yes to people we like Example in the workplace: The managers typically allow the stronger servers to pick up the better shifts which includes lounge shifts and closing shifts. They also are more likely to say yes to the employees that they like including the ones that come in and do their job right, don’t call off and don’t bad mouth the managers. Consensus/social proof – Following the lead of similar others and doing what everyone else is doing Example in the workplace: At work, when the dish pit starts to fill up with clean dishes, the servers have to carry them to the line so the cooks are able to sell food. When we do this, we call it” Full Hands.” When one server does it, others start to follow behind and carry clean plates to the line for the
Reciprocity In cultural anthropology, a reciprocal exchange is the mutual non-market trade of goods or services through either generalized, balanced, or negative reciprocity. Marshall Sahlins, an anthropologist, identified these three types of reciprocity prominent in human society in his book Stone Age Economics (1972). Generalized reciprocity is the exchange of goods or labor without the expectation of an immediate return. Generalized reciprocity is viewed as gift-giving or uninhibited sharing.
of the five principles chosen will compliment the two-factor theory but will also be improved
In Jonathan Swift's satirical essay “A Modest Proposal” he addresses the issues of the nation of Ireland and the problems that it is having with its government because it is doing nothing to help their people come up from issues such as poverty, overpopulation and other crudely addressed political issues. In an attempt to solve these national problems, Swift comes up with a very unique and intense proposition on how the problem can be fixed and dealt with. By providing the reader with a combination of all the three rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos, Swift can easily, slowly, and effectively bring his proposition into view without the reader completely discarding it from consideration as Swift's words take into deliberation the feelings
The consensus model of criminal justice suggests that society strives to maintain a harmonious social order, and social institutions cement social bonds that counteract negative criminal tendencies. "The foundation of consensus perspective is the assumption that societies have an inherent tendency to maintain themselves in a state of relative equilibrium through the mutually and supportive interaction of their principal institutions. Consensus theory is a sociological perspective in which social order and stability and social regulation forms the base of emphasis" (Consensus perspective, 2011, Sociology Index). Societies are interdependent, and every element of society performs some essential function. The interdependent nature of all elements of a society creates a consensus of values and determines what should be required of citizens. By nature, societies are seen as tending towards consensus, and finding an equilibrium of common values is seen as beneficial for society (Sociology perspectives: The order and the conflict model, 2009, Minority Studies). Consensus theorists tend to see minority or dissident groups as troubling, given that they can upset the social structure and cause unrest. The goal of the criminal justice system is to enable people to fit into social institutions.
Sir Robert Peel is an icon in the history of policing, just as is Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement. It is virtually impossible for one to learn police history, or study policing in general for that matter, without gaining knowledge about Peel and his principles. Furthermore, the same could be said for taking a political science class, and not learning the differences between the Democratic and Republican parties.
These principles
Reciprocity is giving and taking (not politically arranged) without the use of money, or a way to swindle. Redistribution the accumulation of goods (or labor) by a particular place and their subsequent distribution. Distribute and Reciprocity fall under the same thing. I found the video Disappearing World very interesting. The moka's exchange help Ongka in his tribe earn fame, pride status by competing with other tribes it's based on whom ever can bring the biggest gift. I thought by them bringing bigger gifts it was all fun in celebration, but when I noticed man coming up dead behind the moka tradition, I realized this isn't all fun and games. Ongka stated, “if the man from another tribe doesn't return his gift he will take him behind a bush

In the 12 angry men I recognized several different social- psychological principles. This movie is filled with different concepts, views, and ways of thinking. Each principle has some way of fitting into the movie. I have watched this movie before this assignment but watching it for the assignment made me look at the different principles involved. There are numerous different concepts that could be used however, I just chose a few. I am going to list some that I noticed while watching the film. The first one I noticed was self- fulfilling, the second is over confidence phenomenon, the third dealt with persuasion, the fourth would be group influence, the fifth would be the concept of conformity, and the last one was the concept of
Reciprocity is very much more than just a tool. It is also a clue about who we humans are and what we need, a clue that will be important for understanding the end of a larger story. There are many times that I experience reciprocity, positive and negative. One example is when someone does something for me I say, “Thank you,” and in theory they should respond back with “Your welcome,” correct? You would think so. Most of the time I receive it in return, but there are times when people fail to politely respond back to the other person. This is an example of a positive experience, unless the person
Normative influence primarily occurs in situations where an individual, when amidst others in a crowd, tend to go along with them primarily in order to be liked and accepted by them as part of their fraternity. Research has identified that normative inference normally occurs as an inborn human nature as human beings tends to associate themselves with others in order to maintain a good social contact and relationship with them. Ideally, normative influence is normally furthered by the need for an individual to increase their chances of surviving especially during adverse conditions. This entails that people may at times seem to agree with others just in order for them to appease themselves to them and avoid potential conflict of standing alone and standing out. In some situations normative influence may occur where individuals associate with complete strangers. In such cases, due to mutual fear for each other, an individual may naturally try to agree with the rest in order to avoid appearing as contradictory or controversial.

Mrs. Jackson and I have the type of relationship based on reciprocity. “Reciprocity, a social norm dictating that an action performed by one party requires a compensating movement by the other, is a cornerstone of cooperative exchange relationships. I think our relationship works so well because we are both very in tune with how we think relationships should be within the workplace.
