1. In the video, Robert Cialdini highlights the six principles of influences and briefly explains scenarios of each. The six principles are as follows: Reciprocity, Scarcity, Commitment and Consistency, Consensus or Social Proof, Authority and Liking. Reciprocity refers to paying back what we received from others. Scarcity is being attracted to things that are hard to come by and are rare. Commitment and Consistency is sticking to what we have already decided on. Consensus or Social Proof is trusting people who are considered experts, authorities, or peers because they are popular or because you confide in them. Authority is following and listening to people who have a title or wears clothing showing they are in charge. Liking is complying …show more content…

Reciprocity – the desire to give back to someone who gave to us. Example in the workplace: At Chili’s we offer a ten percent discount for active and retired military personnel’s. My one manager Joey, will randomly pick one military family each week and instead of offering just the ten percent discount, he will comp their whole bill. By them risking their life and protecting our freedom, my manager feels the desire to give back by letting them eat on the house. Liking – saying yes to people we like Example in the workplace: The managers typically allow the stronger servers to pick up the better shifts which includes lounge shifts and closing shifts. They also are more likely to say yes to the employees that they like including the ones that come in and do their job right, don’t call off and don’t bad mouth the managers. Consensus/social proof – Following the lead of similar others and doing what everyone else is doing Example in the workplace: At work, when the dish pit starts to fill up with clean dishes, the servers have to carry them to the line so the cooks are able to sell food.
