Robert Durst's Death

On the morning of April 12th, 1981, teenage daughter Sheila Sharp would have never imagined coming home to discover that her family had been brutally murdered from the night before. Sue Sharp who had just separated from her husband and her five children: Sheila, Tina, John, Greg, and Rick; relocated to Keddie, California. Sharp and her children had been living in a cabin that they were renting.

“Nobody’s ever been arrested for a murder; they have only ever been arrested for not planning it properly” (Terry Hayes). Ray Leetuf may have never been caught, but that is only if he would have planned it better. Ray Leetuf killed Max Powers in cold blood for hate, money and greed. With those motives it looks clear that Ray Leetuf has done it. In every murder case there is a preliminary report, testimony, and hard evidence. There are examples of all of the three in this case.

A child pageant star was found asphyxiated with craniocerebral trauma in the basement of her own house on the day after Christmas in 1996. Her name was JonBenet Ramsey; she was a six year old girl who lived with her mother, father and brother in Boulder City, Colorado. Her death shocked the public and the murderer has yet to be found. Many blame the mistakes the detectives made during the investigation and her case has gained more recent popularity due to the fact that it has been approximately twenty years since her unfortunate demise.

Understanding the criminal behavior system and crime typologies that the book demonstrates; it is kind of hard to distinguish what type of serial killer Robert Durst is. Judging from the book examples of different type of serial killers, I would have to say Robert Durst is a hybrid serial killer. While some of his actions from the video series, “The Jinx”, lead me to feel as if he was an expedience killer who wants to protect themselves from a perceived threat as the book states. Some of Durst’s actions also lead me to believe he was a mission killer, who had a vision for killing someone. None of his victims seemed as if they were some random act of murder. With regards to the case concerning the death of Michael Brown, many individuals across the country sternly believe that if there had been actual footage of the shooting that day, Officer Wilson would have been indicted for his actions. With that said, since this specific incident, 30 out of 54 Ferguson police officers have actually began wearing body cameras (Ponsi). Some proponents argue that body cameras will not help to indict officers or even hold them accountable for their actions. A lawsuit has been filed over the death of Christopher Lopez who was a diagnosed mentally ill inmate. On March 17, 2013 Lopez died while incarcerated in the San Carlos Correctional Facility. Lopez died on a concrete floor struggling to breathe while guards watched through the food slot to his cell. The reality of it which is why this is beyond frustrating and unacceptable in America is because Lopez 's was a schizophrenic. Lopez was given a psychotropic drug to deal with his schizophrenia. Lopez died due to a sodium deficiency which could have been prevented. So if it was not for the gross over the top negligence of the staff who are required to do their job, Christopher Lopez would still be alive today.

No one will ever really know what happened to set Ted Bundy off, but around 1973 he began raping and murdering women at a surprising rate. No one really knows exactly when and how many woman he had murdered but he was a prime suspect in many unsolved murders. Kathy Devine was last seen getting into a green pick-up on November 25, 1973, which was later found that Ted Bundy had the same green pick-up at the time. Fifteen year old Divine's decomposed remains were found on December 6 with her jeans cut open in between her legs. Her throat was cut and the investigators concluded that she was murdered right after she disappeared and there were no leads or evidence to bring someone to justice for the acts they have committed on this poor girl.

The attempted assassination of former President Ronald Reagan was a horrifying day for many people that were attending his speech; sadly James Brady was at the wrong place on the wrong day. Reagan was not severely injured but Brady certainly was, Brady ended up in critical condition! After recovering from the gunshot, Brady became a serious advocate for an anti-weapon organization, which is why there is currently an organization named after him. The lack of gun control is the main leading effects from gun violence, whether you are at school or sleeping at night, there is someone getting killed or hurt from some type of firearm. Guns tend to be used mainly for harming someone, whether it is self-defense or purposely. Plus gun trafficking has been increasing due to the lack of gun control. Gun violence is pretty much everywhere, and the Brady Campaign statistics show that “On average 31 Americans are murdered with guns every day and 151 are treated for a gun assault in an emergency room” (1). Although the statistics are made from an anti-weapons group, which might be a little bias, the statistics are still accurate enough to get the point across. The only way any of this happened was due to amount of weapons that are in America, it would be less likely for someone to cause a shooting if there were not as many weapons being produced. More and more weapons are being made by the second, due to the continuation of this, people will continue to be hurt because the common saying is
