One thing that Frost does in this poem is reference Biblical terms. In the first two lines of the poem he writes, “My long two-pointed ladder’s sticking through a tree/ Towards heaven still,” (1-2) immediately bringing in the idea of heaven to this poem. Another thing to take into consideration when reading this poem is the story in Genesis regarding the forbidden fruit, which is an apple, being related to evil and sin in the world. Frost’s allusion to the Bible in this section of the poem is particularly interesting when discussing the meaning of the poem.
