Success is not easy to achieve. In Robert Frost’s famous poem “The Road Not Taken”, the main character describes his success in saying “Two roads diverged in a wood, and … I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.” In order to become successful it takes hard work and dedication. Not only that but one must be determined to achieve success. Not many people are willing to go down this path. Success is defined as “accomplishment of what is desired or aimed at, achievement...” (New Webster’s Dictionary and Thesaurus of the English Language, 988). As noted, success is achieved by someone who has the desire to reach their goal. The New Webster’s Dictionary and Thesaurus of the English Language defines success as “the …show more content…
By doing so this ensures that the students with the best grades and GPA have a higher possibility in getting into the best universities, therefore; they succeed in life. Students also strive to achieve the best grades in order to become valedictorian and show the universities that they are serious about their studies and prove to them that they are the best fit for their school. However this is not the only type of success there is. Another form of success is familial success. Familial success can come from a numerous ways. Although many people may not see family as a form of success, like money or fame, it sure can be the best form of success a working parent may have. Nowadays it’s most likely that both parents in a household work which results in them missing out on experiencing their children grow due to their jobs. If both parents are able to maintain a stable job, provide for their family, and be able to spend quality time with their children that may be considered the greatest success they are striving for. The children of full time working parents may see spending quality time with their parents as the greatest form of success, and not really focus on the monetary because they are able to enjoy having their parents around. My tia was born here in California. To many that may seem as an advantage but she had many hardships to overcome. She has two brothers and she happens to be the oldest child. At first I
Success, whether you achieve it by getting a perfect ACT score, becoming a CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, or through a sticker for getting all your spelling words correct, achieving success can be accomplished in any way. The meaning of success to me is when one ambitiously works hard and takes the utmost advantages to a certain extent. This past summer I was given a great opportunity to read a story by Malcolm Gladwell called Outliers: The Story of Success in which Gladwell refutes the standard argument that successful people are so simply because they put in a whole lot of hard work and effort. Alternatively, Gladwell offers the thesis that "people don't rise from nothing"; instead, successful people are "beneficiaries of hidden
Is that success? What or who defines success? Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them.
The meaning of "success" has numerous interpretations, whether it is your own or society's definition. Within Outliers author Malcolm Gladwell explains that being successful has nothing to do with what kind of person you are, so whether you are intelligent and hardworking or lazy and aloof, it depends on your circumstances growing up. Whether your parents happen to be immigrants, you are one of the smartest men in the country or you make a habit of practicing an activity for a certain amount of hours a day, your own personal success, according to Gladwell is defined by the conditions you grew up in; the idea of being successful varies from culture to culture, therefore, there is no definite meaning of success other than one's interpretation.
By definition, success is a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains prosperity. How an individual reaches the point of success is “not exceptional or mysterious. It is grounded in a web of advantages and inheritances, some deserved, some not, some earned, some just plain lucky- but all critical to making them who they are” (285). Throughout the book, Outliers by Malcom Gladwell, the pieces of the secret to success are put together. Three parts of success include pure luck, the amount of time and effort put into working to achieve your goal and where you come from.
Everyone has their own interpretation of the word success. Individuals might even have their own personal explanation of how they came to be successful. However, these personal explanations are usually incorrect. Malcolm Gladwell, Steve Jobs, and the film, Dead Poets Society have a mutual understanding of success, making them interconnective. Although success can be interpreted in various ways, success is attained through hidden advantages, extraordinary opportunities, and significant intelligence.
To me success is accomplishing the goals, doing things the right way, and doing what you love.
Success is achieving personal goals while conquering obstacles or hardships that are in any way. It doesn’t have to be a big goal like winning a state championship. A success can be simple as getting a hit in baseball or even getting a good grade on a test. Butler went through a big obstacle on his way to success. His big obstacle was being homeless at a young age.
Having the mind and determination to become successful isn’t an easy task. Success isn’t considered a gift, it should be a hard task to achieve and it matters how it is accomplished. Success
When trying to define the word success we can find other words with similar meanings. Words that can be used almost interchangeably with success, one such word is accomplish. Success and accomplish both indicate the end of a journey, a point that took a great deal of effort to reach. On the other hand, there is also an important difference in the two words. The word success in indicative of a good outcome, something that is happy.
When two people have a child they feel successful simply because they have someone to love and treasure. The feeling of being able to love your own child and raise that child is success in life. Feeling healthy mentally and physically has a lot to do with whether or not you feel successful. If you can come home from the job you love, see your loving family, and then be able to sit down, relax and appreciate life then you are successful in your own ways.
Robert Frosts “The Road Not Taken” is more symbolic of a choice one must make in their life in attempt to foresee the outcome before reaching the end, than it is about choosing the right path in the woods.
The definition of success differs from person to person. According to the “Poolside” Cadillac commercial, success is having a large house, nice family and a new car. How is that success accomplished? According to the mainstream media, success is achieved through hard work and perseverance. Not by taking extravagant vacations, or working for only a few hours a day. Success for others on the other hand could be having a large amount of free time. The media gives examples of what they think success is, but ultimately it’s up to the person to decide what is success is.
Everything present in the universe is a relatable term just like the word ‘success’. Like most of the definitions, the interpretation of success varies with the people’s perception so it is rather impossible to understand success in a simple way. In the present era, most of the people relate success with the materialistic achievements such as wealth, power and fame while some prefer to evaluate success by assessing the contribution of the person to the society. Many great poets, politicians, writers and songwriters have inked their own version of the definition of success and one of the great many quotes by Bob Dylan is “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” Dylan
I would define success as achieving a goal that you set out for. The three most important things on John Wooden's Pyramid of Success are Confidence, Condition and Fight. These create success in many ways. If you have confidence to win you will always win or come very close. If your team is in condition you will be able to outwork the other team and be success. And if you willing to fight to win then you will be successful in every accept of life. I thought these were important because of how the sports I play I use all of these to be successful in these and in life in general.
The analysis of “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost has been up for debate since the poem release in 1916. It is known to be one of the most frequently misinterpreted poems of all time, and even Robert Frost himself has said the poem is “tricky” to comprehend (The). When analyzing this poem many readers tend to focus only on the last lines of the poem and get caught in a trap of selective-interpretation. Quite a few people after reading Robert Frost’s poem firmly conclude that this poem is about non-conformity and individualism, however, that is not the case. Robert Frost’s poem is meant to be analyzed line by line for a complete interpretation. Readers can conclude that the poem represents making choices in life, but that is not the
