In regards to athletes who are viewed as heroes, I feel Barry Bonds has to be somewhere near the top. I have been to several San Francisco Giants baseball games and everyone I have talked to at those games boasts about how great he was. Somehow the people who admire him are able to overlook the fact that he took performance-enhancing drugs to become an elite player and set baseball records. The Giants have even hired him to work with the current team and plan to retire his number. To me, this is a way of saying to the current members of the Giants, along with their fans, that is okay to cheat and take drugs because in time all will be forgiven. Players like Bonds who take drugs to cheat should be banned and have no business being around current

Although there were other black players who played baseball Jackie Robinson was the player who made the greatest impact in playing the sport of baseball for the black community. He was the only player in the sport of baseball to have his jersey retired by every franchise in major league baseball (Matsunaga, 2014). He not only was the first player in the spots of baseball to breakdown the barrier that existed so long between people of color and their white counterparts, but he was also one of the highest players to play the game of baseball.
Not only did he have the individual statistics, but he also helped lead the Pirates to two World Series Championships, in 1960 and 1971; he won the MVP for the 1971 series as well. He thought about retirement after the 1971 season but felt there was more to be gained in representing the Latino population. Following the 1972, where he had achieved the milestone of 3,000 career hits, he went to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua but perished when his plane crashed in the ocean. A few months after his death, in April 1973, the Baseball Writers of America voted to induct Clemente into the Baseball Hall of Fame, where he became the first Latino player to ever be inducted.
"A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives." - Jackie Robinson. Jackie Robinson did more than play baseball, he changed the lives of millions by doing what most thoughts were impossible. Jackie Robinson was an important figure in American history because he broke the color barrier in professional sports, he showed no matter what skin color you have, you can be what you want to be, also Jackie was a huge supporter of the Civil Rights Movement. My thesis relates to this quote greatly because Jackie thought the impact you had on other lives is the most important thing in life.
