The use of robotics has gained immense application in many fields; its use varies from applications in autonomous vehicles, to package delivery, including package delivery drones, to robots that work side-by-side with skilled human workers in factories. Robots can be conceived of as physically embodied systems that are capable of enacting physical change to the world through effectors; the operation of the robots is either through the movement of the robot or manipulation of objects in the environment. It has been speculated that robotics will replace much of the labor force in years to come. The application of robotics, however, extends beyond this, with its use in healthcare generating a tremendous impact in improving service and efficiency. With an estimated 20% of people living with physical disorder, robotics can be used to ease the lives of people with, sensory, cognitive, and motor impairment disorders. Further to this is the use of robotics in the clinical workforce as a tool to improve efficiency. Robots can vary in their degree of decision making, which ranges from them being autonomous to being teleoperated. They typically function through …show more content…

The article explains the fundamental feasibility argument of the use of robotics in healthcare, such as its use in care settings, care tasks, physical tasks, and cognitive tasks. The location and use of robotics in care settings determine its feasibility, with one example being that even though a 400-lb, 5’4” dual-arm mobile manipulator may work well in a laboratory, it is more suited for an 80-sq. Ft. room. Care tasks are a critical function among many that robotics plays, and robotics aid in caregiving activities that range from providing physical support to cognitive assistance for DRUs and clinicians, thus helping to reduce cognitive
