Many people consider classical and rock music opposite. What is it about those two types that makes people believe that they are completely different? Is it because they each have such a contrasting audience or because both environments have differing characteristics? Rock and classical music are unlike in many ways. They differ through their history, their setting as well as their structure.

Each type of music as their own unique history about how they came to be. The past has a great influence on how it evolved and developed over the years. The length of classical piece is much greater than a rock song, some can last hours. The amount of time given to it can develop another point of view on music itself. As for rock, it may be only few minutes, but those are enough to make the crowd feel alive using a melody and words. Classic pieces may not have words, but it doesn’t mean it can’t speak for itself. “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”, said a brilliant writer, Victor Hugo. Each piece speaks louder than words. Rock is more about letting go than delivering a message. Most of them are focussing more on enjoying the present without having to think about a deeper meaning and less on expression. The structure only confirms the level of difference of rock and classical music.

Rock as well as classical music differs from each other for many reasons. Multiple aspects has a role to play in their divergence such as their past, their environments and their structure. No matter if it’s rock, classical, jazz, blues, pop or any other type of music, each song is unique. Each note speaks for itself, but all of them together creates something
