Am pretty sure my admiration for progressive rock concept albums started back when I started seriously getting into collecting record albums. As a kid in my single digits, I had 45's (singles) and whatever else one not quite a teenager yet would have, including the first Partridge Family album (1970). To my credit, I was never interested in what pop songs 'The Brady Bunch' was putting out, but I'll admit I did have a boyhood crush on Marcia (Maureen McCormick). Along came my teen years. From hanging out with my friends, and sometimes their older siblings, I became exposed to more of what they were playing on the FM radio stations, then the AM ones. Rock n' Roll was my thing. To this day, which it primarily still is. My first real rock album; …show more content…
I was sent an EP he put out called, 'Music From An Expanded Universe', for possible review. I ended up doing so praising it not only for its musical contents, but it's cover art as well. A year and a half later (give or take) I get another package in the mail with Leon's newest release. A forty one minute full length concept album entitled, 'The Future Left Behind.' Includes guest players Billy Sherwood (Yes - Circa:) on guitar, and a legendary musician I already mentioned; Rick Wakeman. He's credited with a Moog solo on the second track (Launch Overture), and extra keyboards. Seeing how Leon plays keyboards himself, it's figuring out, and then knowing the different styles of the two men to guess who's playing where. The majority of the keyboard work is Leon. That much I know. He also takes care of the drum work. On top of that, the sci-fi story is by him, and he writes all the all the songs except for one where he shares songwriting credit. That would be with guitarist Johnny Bruhns (Circa:) on a number called; To Be Loved. An outstanding acoustic guitar number performed by Johnny, who plays on that one …show more content…
My only regret is that at least on one track, that it don't rock out just a tad harder. For I know Leon and company are more than capable. But it's cool. We do have lots of rock moments mixed in with the more mellow stuff. Hard to complain. Besides that, I can't say enough good words about the overall concept story approach. A solid futuristic, apocalyptic tale that inspires intelligent thought. I strongly recommend paying the extra money and getting the physical CD. It really compliments what you'll hear, as far as packaging. The artwork / photography stands out. Comes with a very well done booklet, that includes the story in written form, plus comic book illustrations. I would love to see this done like an old school vinyl album. I imagine it would even come with a poster, and a few stickers. I can't say enough … this is really, really well done! Okay to buy the download as well. It is the music here that I find most important. The rest is icing on the
Rock n Roll was everything the suburban 1950’s were not. While parents of the decade were listening to Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, and the Big Bands. Their children were moving on to a new beat.” (U.S. History) Teenagers started to like this new type of music called rock and roll. It became very popular and artists started to experiment with it which influenced the development of rock n roll throughout the 50’s and 60’s. The experimentation with rock n roll changed music forever and greatly influenced our music today. Rock n roll was mixed with country, rhythm, and blues when this combination happened rock n roll kept developing through the fifties and sixties.
One of the social changes in the 1950s was rock-n-roll music which led to teens rebelling against the social norms and being able to freely express themselves. In fact, much of the older generation looked down upon rock-n-roll because they considered it tasteless and music from the devil. While in the 1960s, music was considered a way to really express yourself and tell the world about how you really felt about the current situation. Much of the 60’s music was used to protest the Vietnam War and show the government that they did not want to go off to war to fight. The 1950s was a decade filled with change and prosperity while the 1960s were the years of rebellion and
Rock ‘N’ Roll’s birth came after the Great Depression and World War II. It was in the 50’s called the baby boomers that started it all. It expanded the teenage population with 3.4 million babies born. The 1950’s scrap the ideology of a conservative family, where the father is the bread winner and the mother was a stay home mother. Rock and roll was born in the 1950's and has influenced our pop culture and music for the last six decades ever since its creation from blues, rhythm and blues, country, and gospel music. It has since then created a large variety of genres of rock such as folk rock, country rock, southern rock, corporate rock, art rock, heavy metal, glam rock and many more (Larson). Many of the genres created by Rock and Roll are still listened to this day and has also influenced other types of music and artists. The large amount of variety of music that is present today is due to the fragmentation of rock and roll and what the audience wanted to hear. This lead to the creation of a large variety of genres of rock to please every rock listener in the world.
By the end of the decade, however Rock was taken over by big business, and what used to be a provocative sound turned into songs about teen-appropriate issues such as school, parents, young love, etc.
From bell bottoms to Barbies, every generation has its own distinct trends. While various fads have cropped up in each era, music has always been a key element of culture. Starting in the 1950’s, music became integrated within the American culture as the favored form of expression. The popular types of music found on the Top 100 lists today however, have changed dramatically since then. What has promoted this obvious change in music choice? While rock ‘n’ roll still holds its own in the music billboards of 2010, the general public now prefers the mechanical sounds of hip hop and

Rock and pop have been evolving areas of music for the last fifty years. They have created riches for people, and have created artifacts that are now considered precious. Christie’s Rock & Pop Memorabilia by Peter Doggett and Sarah Hodgson describes the basic information of artists and their now famous music and artifacts. If you are wondering what a memorabilia is, in Merriam-Webster’s dictionary a memorabilia is defined as, “objects or materials that are collected because they are related to a particular event, person, etc.” The ages of rock and pop have had an abundance of memorabilia that is worthy of recognition.
Introduction The 1950s rock ‘n’ roll movement was rooted from a style of music created by black people and their descendants (Scaruffi, 2005). The lives of Americans were changed, as the older generation looked down upon this genre and life style, while the young generation fell in love with it (“America,” 2008). Artist of the 1950s played a huge roll in the ideas that influenced every aspect of it such as legends Buddy Holly and Little Richard. From moral changes to political changes rock ‘n’ roll arrived to America ready to make an everlasting impact (Stewart, 2008).
In the 1960s all a 18 year old wanted to do was listen to The Kinks, The Who, maybe some of The Rolling Stones. In 2 months one band would release a album that would change the genre of rock forever, but we’ll get to that later.
When the numbers of teenage arrests increased, parents were quick to blame rock and roll for being a bad influence on their children. However, most of their children’s antics were a result of feeling repressed by their parents’ strict rules; they acted out only as a form of rebellion against their conservative parents. Some people, not worrying about the psychological well being of the people around them, simply thought the new music sounded strange. In some social situations, the “elite” people acted like they were too good for new music; they said that people lower on the socioeconomic ladder were the only ones listening to rock and roll. Not only that, but also when radio stations played rock and roll, they risked alienating older fans who were used to the older music
Listening to all these music has introduced me to Playing guitar, Bass, listening for the melody, Taking a close observation of songs that interest me, look for interesting techniques, and listen for the complexity of the musical composition. My Introduction to rock music was actually the Beatles, but they really kept me in a little box when it came to what I wanted to hear besides the pop songs that I used to listen to as a child, who was mostly only exposed to rap and Hip Hop until the age of 8. Though the Beatles were really my first introduction to rock music, Billy Squier was the one that really gave me chance to break out of the little bubble I was in and explore more genres which I now have grown to love which are Rock, Metal, Blues, Alternative, Indie, Punk, Folk, Jazz, And If Played by the Fantastic Johnny Cash, Country. I have grown different views Than I had previously before when I’ve listened to music, now I tie it into more complex
I quite like the style of the graphics as it looks good without being so over the top that it is hard to see what is going on. The draw distance is also very generous, so it is easy to spot upcoming obstacles and adjust your path accordingly. The three themes, Electronic, Laserdance and Synthrock each feature its own soundtrack and some of the tunes are rather catchy. The music really suits the game and sounds great with a decent pair of headphones as it really draws you into the game. Some more tracks would have been nice, but the developers have promised that there is a free theme coming which is very generous considering the already low price tag of the game. The sound effects don’t really stand out, but the announcer is a nice
