Freak the Mighty
The story Freak the Mighty by: Rodman philbrick shows a friendship between two boys that change completely as the story develops. The two characters change as they know each other better. One main character is Maxwell Kane. Max lives with his grandparents, his mom died, and his dad is in jail. Before he met Kevin, the person that changed his life, he thought he was dumb, and had no friends. In fact,Max is an important character in the book Freak the Mighty, because his caring heart to Kevin allowed him to change.
Max was a great friend to Kevin, but something that made him stand out was his caring heart to Kevin. One example was when freak chocked on the chop suey. “ something is wrong. He can’t talk… then I’m running to
Max the Mighty is a fictional book written by Rodman Philbrick. Philbrick wrote the book in 1998. Also in 1998, Philbrick wrote Freak the Mighty. “Freak The Mighty has become a standard reading selection in thousands of classrooms worldwide, and now has nearly three million copies in print” (RodmanPhilbrick.com, n. d.). Max who is now on his own since his best friend died met someone named worm after rescuing her from nearly getting beat by her stepfather, and is now in search of her real dad.
Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, is a very realistic book. It shows the unique friendship between 2 totally different boys. But their mothers, Gwen and Gram, play a role in the book too. Gram is Max’s grandmother that has gone through a lot, and has no problem voicing her concerns. Gwen is Kevin’s mom, and is the most caring mom you will read about.
These characters are quite the same in the book and the movie. In the beginning Max is bullied and is kind of an outkast. Freak/Kevin came to his new school, but he was bullied because he was Smarter and
because he is always there for Freek. For example, one day Freak was playing in his backyard and he got his ornithopter stuck in the tree. Max went to Freaks house and got the ornithopter for him (page 12). As well as when Max and Freak go to the fireworks alone. Freak is to short to see the fireworks with everyone standing around him, specifically on page 32 Max says “so I just sort of reach down without thinking and pick up Freak and set him on my shoulders.” This proves that Max can be very thoughtful without even thinking in ways that he doesn’t even know. Lastly, when Freak asks Max to go out at 3 in the morning to go digging in a sewer pipe, Max agrees, even though he doesn’t
People should not just assume others based on looks or size of another person. For example I saw this big and tall person at my school. He also had this dirty type of clothing that you would see in the dirty laundry bin. At first I was scared that he could judge me for being small or pick on me because he is way bigger than others. I actually went to talk to him while on the field because my two friends were talking to him. Since i first talked to him two years ago, we have still been great friends. In the novel Freak the Mighty, author Rodman Philbrick demonstrates the theme being don’t judge a book by its cover.
I can tell that Max is frightened by Tony because when he called them out he tells Freak that Tony has been to court 4 times and has cut someone with a razor and the person he cut almost died. While Max is petrified, Freak
For example, when he was trying to evade a bully, he relied on Freak to help him: “In a small voice I say, ‘Tell me what to do,’” (Philbrick 36). Max didn’t know what to do or how to get out of the situation on his own, so he called on Freak to help. Max also made new friends with Freak’s help: “The whole class is raising their fists in the air and chanting: ‘Freak the Mighty! Freak the Mighty -.
One example of when Freak and Max work together was when they were at the festival. Freak was unable to go to the fireworks, but with Max’s protection he was able to go. Not only was Max his protection, Freak was able to see the fireworks when Max lifted him on his shoulders. When they were down by the fireworks, “There are so many people crowded around, all he can see are feet
In the book, Freak the Mighty, Kenny kane sets a tone for Max to respond to. Kenny Kane takes max with a hard and untrusted way of making him follow him where he wanted to go. The author made the tone and mood perfectly so that Max can describe what is happening. Kenny Kane blames and feels sorrowful about max and his grandparents, which makes Max feel nervous as he states” You can’t hear the sorrow in his voice even though you can see the tears on his face.” Which confuses Max.
The book I'm writing about is called Stupid Fast. It's about a teenage boy who learns that he has became bigger then he feels. The people who he used to make fun of have now become his friends. He tries to understand why his family is so crazy. Then in the end he gets told about who his dad really was and everything starts to make more sense.
They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and Rodman Philbrick’s, Freak the Mighty, proves this quotes wrong magnificently through friendship, emotions, and destiny. All throughout the book the reader will get to see how judging someone on their appearance and heredity can truly change a person’s life, except with this book it is shown through a young boy named Maxwell Kane (the main character) and his best friend, Kevin as they go through many life changing adventures together. The reader will find themselves learning lessons that will change their own lives as they see Max conquering his problems of loneliness, neglect, and worry. Because the beginning of Max’s life was full of such things, he was taught to believe them and become
So far, Freak the Mighty has had a lot of events happen even though we have only read up to chapter 16. We have met the two main characters, Max and Freak, or Kevin. These two boys are very different. Kevin has some sort of disability that makes him smaller than most children and he is very smart, he is so smart he has his own vocabulary, which he made his own dictionary for. Then there’s Max who is pretty much the opposite. Max is much larger than the average child and he thinks he’s “stupid” when really, he isn’t. He lives with his Grim and Gram, grandfather and grandmother. Freak lived with his mother who he calls the Fair Gwen. These two do lots of things together such as spend the Fourth of July together and go see the fireworks. They
In school Freak helped out Max by telling the teachers Max is not a public speaker. Also Freak helped Max to write meanwhile he also increased Max’s vocabulary. One of the things that Max helps Freak with is mobility Max as well as carries freak places, while Freak guides Max to places like the hospital. As a result Freak save Max, as a result he sent out the police Freak saves Max. Then Freak shoots Killer, then Kane (Max’s dad) hurt his eyes and was blinded. In other words Killer Kane gets arrested. But many friendships are formed by helping someone in
The book, Maybe, by Brent Runyon, is an unusual book about a boy who lost his brother when he drove off a road and into a tree at night. After his brother’s suicide, Brian is forced to go to a new school after they move. Most of the kids Brian decides to befriend end their relationship with him because of Brian’s unexpected actions. Brian takes himself on an adventure of being really perverted, losing a best friend, and discovering that forcing a relationship with someone isn’t needed if you really love them.
The character maxwell kane is first described as “Im not big,”i say.”thin way your like two feet taller than me.” In fact, when we first see him, “I invented games like kick-boxing and kick-face and kick-teachers and kick-the-other-little-day-care-critters” (page 22). “Called kicker for a time-this was day care, the year gram and grim took me over-and i had a thing about booting anyone who dares to touch me” (page 1).Then when max meets kevin (freak) and max is caring about kevin.max states “and so i just sort of reach down without thinking and i pick up freak and set him on my shoulders.” this shows
