Discovering Wes Moore is full of different conflicts, but most of them are the same type: man vs. society. Throughout the course of the novel, Wes runs into several problems with society. First of all, Wes never did well in school as a child. This does not really sound like it is against civilization, and more like it is against himself. However, this made his childhood very different than how it would have been if he did well in school. Failure in every class led to being sent to military school, which is something nobody, including Wes, wanted to happen. His grades caused him to take part in small crimes and get into arguments with his mother, which is not good at all. Next, Wes commits small crimes. He takes part in vandalism with a friend
Steven Barone, a Nevada resident known for his alien chasing hobbies, has finally struck gold. Barone apparently caught his first UFO sighting on two HD cameras. This would be great news, unfortunately, Barone hails from Las Vegas. The City of Sin isn't exactly known for its truthful reputation, but perhaps Barone will prove that wrong. Probably unlikely.
Harry Wills, also known as The Black Panther in boxing, has inspired many colored youths to participate in sports themselves. Currently, he has been unable to fight in the heavyweight title, and he probably never will get the chance to because dangerous black men like him are prohibited from doing so. Nobody can really prove that Wills is the best boxer because he is unable to fight against the white race, but he wins just about every match he gets into with the colored. Full of excuses, George Dempsey, was the white boxing legend who could not fight against Harry Wills even though over 500 newspaper polls estimated that Harry would win. Boxing has become very popular with all Americans, but racial prejudice remains, so it will be difficult

Towards the end of his
Political advocacy organizations have historically played a big part in securing political rights for minority groups in Western Liberal Democracies. Whether we look to the now infamous Boston Tea Party to the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, we observe the importance of political organizations in their quest to ensure equitable rights for the people whom they represent. In context of the early twentieth century, the most prominent group to represent African-American’s in the United States was that of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The NAACP, as it is more commonly called, was founded on February 12, 1909 by a mixed group of individuals including but not limited to Ida B. Wells, W. E. B. DuBois and Archibald Grimké with the goal of creating a civil rights organization that would help assist in organizing for civil rights for blacks. One of its most prominent members, Charles Hamilton Houston, who became a part of the organization around the mid-twentieth century, changed the trajectory of the organization for years to come. The legend of Sam Bass has grown way out of proportion in relation to his actual deeds. A book collector claims that he has over 200 titles that deal with Sam Bass in some way (Carmack 1B). One of Round Rock’s major streets bears his name as do several businesses. Texas history has often referred to him as “Texas’ Beloved Bandit” or “Robin Hood on a Fast Horse” (Centennial Commission). In actual fact, Sam was probably more inept than brave or noble, and he appears to have never realized that robbing trains and banks was anything more than an amusing diversion. For him it was mere sport, the reality that people often were injured, either physically or financially, appears to have never surfaced on his shallow conscience (Smith 34).
Robert Smalls was born in Beaufort, South Carolina, on April 5, 1839 and worked as a house slave until the age of 12. At that point his owner, John K. McKee, sent him to Charleston to work as a waiter, ship rigger, and sailor, with all earnings going to McKee. This arrangement continued until Smalls was 18 when he negotiated to keep all but $15 of his monthly pay, a deal which allowed Smalls to begin saving money. The savings that he accumulated were later used to purchase his wife and daughter from their owner for a sum of $800. Their son was born a few years later.
