Introduction
Disability is an impairment that may be cognitive, developmental, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory or some combination of these. It substantially affects a person's life activities and may be present from birth or occur during a person's lifetime. It is a major social problem in Bangladesh. There are an estimated 16 million people with disabilities in Bangladesh, or 10% of the country's population. People in Bangladesh living with disabilities are entitled to government support, but programs have been limited in scope and restricted to urban areas, and the question of disability has not been integrated into general development programs. In response, NGOs such as the Employment and Rehabilitation Center for the Physically Handicapped (ERCPH) has moved to provide assistance to people with disabilities.
Statement of the problem
In Bangladesh, disability is a very common phenomena. The number of people with disabilities in Bangladesh is high enough to merit special attention. There are an estimated 16 million people with disabilities in Bangladesh, or 10% of the country's population. It is stated that, poverty creates disability and disability creates poverty. People with disability are often among the poorest of the poor. In 2010, the prevalence of disability was about 6% among those below the age of 18 and about 14% among those are adults.
