No one knows exactly when or who created the first “house.” Its main purpose is to protect people from the outside. In ancient civilizations it was mainly to store food. It has helped us throughout history in many different ways by giving protection to people and a place to be protected from extremes of weather. Scientists believe that the first man-made shelter was made of tree branches and stones. The stones were placed at the center of the structure to hold the branches in place.
