“The white man has no kin; his kin is his money” is a famous Tongan proverb often used by the Tongan people to explain that there are not many similarities between their culture and the western civilization mores. Since Tongan is the only Polynesian country that was not colonized and retains its monarchy, it is expected to observe different behaviors between our culture and their population. One of the most interesting particularity of Tonga, which is very different from what we are used to, is the way they celebrate their Independence Day. This paper will evaluate how the Independence Day is celebrated in Tonga and who were the most important people that made this accomplishment possible. I will argue that the lack of colonization in Tonga …show more content…
In Tonga, the king George Tupou I established a Government and introduced written laws before the colonization, in order to keep the country’s sovereight. Tupou I was the king who united the country under one ruler, and gave the emancipation for the people by declaring the first written Constitution of Tonga. He safeguarded the right of property for Tongans, and also the freedom of religion; it is because of George Tupou I that Tonga were never colonized by a foreign power. His efforts are celebrated through speeches, given by important Tongan politicians and public figures, and songs, like lakalaka. Sālote Tupou III is also remembered by Tongans during the Independence Day Festivals, because she represents the nationalism of this population. Sālote was the first queen of Tonga; she ruled from 1918 to 1965. Her main accomplishment was getting a closer relationship with UK, which later, in 1970, led to the entrance of Tonga in the

It started around 1778-1780 when Captain Cook puts the Hawaiian islands on the map and everyone far and wide started to come to Hawaii. This research paper will inform the audience on how the Hawaiian culture started to die out, what caused it to start dying out, why it is bad,and how it can be prevented or solved.
The British were not good rulers because they had only ruled for 20 years, while Spain had dominated Florida for over 288 years. The British were weak, the only reason they got Florida was because they were teamed with the French. This of course was before the Treaty of Paris. In 1672 the British had captured Havana but the use of it was nothing. Many of the British territories had recruiting programs that were not hard to like.
After the death of Kalaniopuu in 1782 Islands were divided between Kiwalao, Kalaniopuu’s son. Kiwalao was declared heir to rule. Kiwalao was briefly the 7th Ali’i of Kohala, 5th Ali’i of Kona and 3rd Ali’i of Kau, and thus ruler of the island of Hawaii. But what Kiwalao did was what started problems. Kiwalao gave the honor to Keawema’uhili and he gave himself and others large pieces of land and districts. Kamehameha, his uncles and Kiwalao’s half brother Keouakuahu’ula felt cheated out of the best land creating rivalries. The several Kona district chiefs, unhappy with Kiwala‘o’s division of lands made Kamehameha their leader. It started in Ke’ei by Keouakuahu’ula who had cut down coconut trees and killed people. This was kekuhaupio’s Home and

During the year of 1845 a modern day marvel was completed. This feat of modern engineering allowed people and goods alike to travel from the Great Lakes to the Ohio River on a moderately quick and cost effective route. To be completely specific the name of this route would later be known as the Miami Erie Canal. Notably, the canal is known for being the driving force behind the economy and growth in the majority of small towns along the canal. For this reason the canal should be celebrated for its contributions to the development of northwest Ohio.
Established in 1961, the Special Committee of Decolonization is a body of the United Nations, an international bureaucratic agency, working towards the just treatment and interaction of Non-Self-Governing individuals. This body still operates in the present day. The Special Committee of Decolonization defines Non-Self-Governing Territories “whose people have not yet attained a full measure of self-government”. (United Nations 2017) In essence, a nation where foreign, commonly colonial powers dictate the lives of people who have and maintain rich, diverse, historical, and cultural existence in the world for millennia. And while The Special Committee of Decolonization, works towards the decolonization of these nations, they fail to end the scourge of informal imperialism.
At the dawn of the 20th century, the United States of America entered the imperialistic race taking place in the rest of the world. Imperialism is defined as a way of extending a country’s power, influence, and wealth by means of diplomacy or military force. At this time, other countries around the world were determining their amount of power in the rest of the world. These countries include France, England, Germany, and a few others. The United States, being a new country, were not a part of this race and was often not viewed as a power at all even though they had the potential of being one.

Hawaiian Culture went through many rapid changes between the arrival of the first Europeans in the late 1700s and the fall of the Kingdom in 1893. With the quick transition from many Chiefdoms to a European styled monarchy, then lastly being enveloped by a larger democracy, the Hawaiian people experienced significant and sudden changes in their social relations of production. First a description of pre-kingdom Hawaii to the unifying conquests of the first Hawaiian king, Kamehameha, will be looked at analyzing the social relations of production. This is followed by a similar analysis of The Kingdom of Hawaii and how the social relations of production where effected by the conquest. The kahuna’s position in the relations of production will be
In the 19th century Hawaii used the form of government called a monarchy. King Kamehameha I or the Great was the first king to unify all of the islands that made up Hawaii. King Kamehameha was a very inspiring king for the Hawaiian people. His beliefs and morals set the tone for what they expected out of future kings in Hawaii. He strongly believed in maintaining independence from colonial control. He did this by creating alliances with those powers. He supported a lot of freedoms that the natives had. Such as, religion and religious expression and cultural customs. With the increase in trade he also tried to preserve the native Hawaiian culture. One way he did this was by allowing only natives to own land. But decades later this law was taken away. The reason why I discuss King Kamehameha is because he becomes a symbol in Hawaiian music and they praise him in their songs because of how favorable he was as a king.
With the development of public health in U.S., the health insurance coverage has benefited most American citizens. But there is a large ethnic minority group in the U.S. which is most likely to lack coverage, Hispanics. Concerning Latinos with health, there is a barrier for Latinos to get health care. Without health insurance, Hispanics face health disparities that make them suffer with bad health outcomes and having a higher illness rates.

In "To Kill a Mockingbird", Harper Lee highlights racial profiling and how people's perceptions change their actions towards others, which continues to be an issue in today's society. One racial issue we see during "To Kill a Mockingbird" is social injustice in the court system, shown through the Tom Robinson trial. For example, Jem doesn't quite understand the unfortunate, but true state of the injustice in the courts, so Atticus explains to him, "Tom Robinson's a colored man, Jem. No jury on this part of the world's going to say we think you're guilty, but not very, on a charge like that." (Lee 294). This quote highlights the racial injustice experienced for many in the courts, especially
