Ad’s R us’ is a realistic representation of the future if the economy keeps developing at its current speed. This essay will explore peer pressure and the role of technology while exploring what technology and peer pressure can does to the young and vulnerable. ‘Ads R Us’ is a book evolved around advertising. In this book an adolescent called Barrett has been raised in a cult called Simplicity far away from the Chattering World along with its advertising and its both negative and positive effects, depending on who’s perspective you're viewing it from. Barrett’s Guardian passes away therefore Barrett had to move in with his Aunt Kara and Uncle Adrian, along with his cousin Taylor. Aunt Kara takes advantage of this rare opportunity for her advertising company. Aunt Kara then puts Barrett unknowingly to the test to discover the effects of advertising on an untouched mind. It can also be when companies pressure you into buying their products through advertisements and other individuals. Peer pressure can also cause changes in culture barriers and can make people lose their personality and individuality.
Examples of negative peer pressure include, pressuring someone into taking drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and participating in risky sexual behaviour, this can come in two forms being either directly of indirectly. Peer pressure can be associated with belonging to a group as this brings a feeling of being accepted while enhancing self-esteem.
