This article analyses the social media recruitment practices of Indian companies. On the basis of recruitment practitioners’ experiences this article provides simple and effective tips for recruiting with social media and provides framework, guidelines, steps and precautions while using social media for recruitment. INTRODUCTION Social media has been defined in many ways, but for the purposes of this report, we borrow the definition from Murphy, Hill, and Dean (2013), which is relevant for public opinion and survey research: “Social media is the collection of websites and web-based systems that allow for mass interaction, conversation, and sharing among members of a network. Social media communication becomes not just two way but multidirectional, colleagues conversing with each other at the same time as feeding messages up. Social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, allow individuals to post and share personal information, which has led many US employers to use social networking sites to screen job applicants (Shea and Wesley, 2006; Withiam, 2011). Social media offers opportunities to differ and to approach people in a way that can tell more about it as a company and its people. These are elements that attract people and motivate them look for a career there. Social media has thus effects on employer image and recruitment intentions.
