For all of my life I have been indecisive on what I want to do with my life. The one constant in what I want to do is that I want to help people. Lately what has frequently come to my mind is becoming a high school teacher because of how it plays an extremely valuable role in our society. What I want to do in my life is to be able to help guide young teenagers into the real world smoothly so they can move our society in a positive direction.
Teachers play a very key role in the functionalist theory of sociology. In summary, functionalism means everything has a function, a purpose and is connected. Teaching’s purpose is to educate students so they can grow up to have a well balanced education and be prepared for whatever is next to come in their life. Without teachers than you don’t have an education system and without that society would just fall apart. Without education nothing would get done, new discoveries wouldn’t be made, we wouldn’t be able to explore the ocean or outer space and we wouldn’t have technology, science, music. Every single thing you use everyday would not exist if we did not have education. And to get an education, you need teachers to teach you it. Teaching is also a very valuable thing because education is the second most important agent in the agents of socialization. Socialization is the awareness of norms and values that over time becomes a part of you and helps shape the person you become. So without education you would not learn the values you
