Standing up for yourself is brave, but standing up for others to save them first is true courage. After reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, written by Mildred D. Taylor, I believe that Stacey Logan was the most courageous character. He came up with a plan to stop the bus, he chased T.J. to the Wallace store, and helped the Avery family after the night men beat them. Stacey’s actions show that he’s very brave and opinionated, but also a very kind boy at heart. Firstly, Stacey was definitely courageous by not only daring to get revenge on the bullies, but being unafraid of doing so. He says, “I’ll show y’all how we’re going to stop that bus from splashing us.” (Taylor, 50). This shows that Stacey is unafraid to stand up and take charge himself,
He did this by saying that other kids were making fun of him, saying that he looked like a preacher. Stacey felt embarrassed, and gave the coat to T.J when he told him that he would give it back, after he grew into it. This shows that Stacey was foolish to listen to T.J, but it also shows how sneaky T.J can really be. T.J is sneaky in many ways in this book. Another example was when he was talking about how he gets out of his cores and other work that needs to be done at his house.
In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, both T.J. and Jeremy are Stacey's friends, but when it comes down to it, which one is a better person? Unlike T.J., Jeremy is a better friend because, he cares a great deal about the Logan family, Stacey's friendship with him would stand up for the racial oppressions of this era, and he is a largely determined to be friends with Stacey's siblings.
Cassie’s bravery shows throughout the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my cry. No matter circumstance Cassie helped her friends and stood up to her enemies. Compared to Ruby Bridges they both stood up to their enemies and faced their problems head on.” I cried for T.J. For T.J. and the
Stacey Mr. Courageous Throughout the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, Mildred Taylor uses Stacey Logan as a courageous boy standing for his convictions. Stacey proves his convictions by protecting his friends and going after T.J. when he went to the Wallace Store. Staceys actions proved that he was a brave, strong, boy who wanted to protect his family and the land he lived on. Stacey shows his family and friends that he is willing to face the consequences that come with standing up for his convictions.
In life, being courageous means you have to stand up for your convictions and beliefs. In the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey consistently shows gigantic amounts of courage throughout the book. Stacey shows how courageous he was when he chased after T.J. to find the truth for his mom; when he confronted T.J. about his lying and tells the kids he wouldn’t stand for it; and when Stacey stays behind during the big explosion of violence at the end of the book. The events all demonstrate Stacey’s courage and willingness to help his family.
In the beginning of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mildred D. Taylor at first displays Stacey Logan as a young innocent boy who makes bad decisions.
Stacey began the breakdown of T.J. by abandoning him, leaving T.J. susceptible to corruption. The desertion of T.J. was initiated when T.J. accidentally makes Mrs. Logan lose her job after she graded him poorly. After hearing of this, Stacey confronted T.J. and in a fit of anger deserted T.J, as shown on page 194: “We walked on, not stopping… we left him and we heard no more.” One might argue that T.J. is at fault here instead of Stacey, as he divulged information that was supposed to never leave the classroom, knowing Mrs. Logan would get something more serious than a stern talking-to. With Mrs. Logan no longer having a job, the Logans were at risk of financial issues, which make Stacey’s actions justified. However, when T.J was profusely apologizing, and visibly upset, and Stacey still left him without mercy, he allowed T.J. to fall in with
Courage is what is right even if others don't like it. In the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry Mildred D Taylor uses Cassie as a character and she fights for what's right. The first time Cassie shows courage is protecting her brother ”Miz Crocker please don't!”I said Miz Crockers dark eyes warned me to not say another word.”I know why he done it” The second one was when she stood up to Mr. Barnett “I ain’t nobody's little n*****!”I screamed, angry and humiliated. The third time she was standing up for her Papa ”Who said that!”I cried jumping up from the bank”Just tell me who did that it and I’ll ram...”We automatically knew that Cassie was going to be an outspoken little girl that was sassy. She was born when equality
He showed courage because in school during a test, T.J was cheating and when the teacher started to walk around the room, he placed the cheat notes by Stacey’s desk, and then Stacey’s mom walked by his desk because she was the teacher and saw the cheat notes. He told her he didn’t know where they came from, but he still took the blame and got whipped in front of the whole class. Another act of courage that Stacey took was when Papa, Mr. Morrison and him went to vicksburg to get the stuff they needed, and when papa got shot and ran over, he helped get him back home. The last act of courage he did was when T.J. was is trouble, he sent cassie and the others to go get papa and Mr. Morrison, and stayed to see if there was anything he could do to help. He was very courageous because of all the racism and Segregation going on, people who fought back would be punished, and Stacey was very courageous because he was just a kid and for him to fight back and risked getting killed is very courageous of
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy, but if you have the courage, you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout the book, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, by Mildred D. Taylor, I feel that Cassie Logan showed the most courage. Even though she didn’t quite understand why her family was treated the way they were, she knew it wasn’t right. She showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, when she stood up to Miz Crocker because the “new books” were dirty, and also when she had to stand up to Lillian Jean. For a girl Cassie’s age, she had a deep respect for not only herself, but also the others around her.
Being courageous has nothing to do with who you are, it’s what you do that counts. During the novel, Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry Mildred Taylor uses Stacey to show his courageousness. It all starts when he thinks up a very creative plan to stop the bus, then it advances to Stacey fighting T.J., and also as he helped T.J when he was hurt. He makes a plan to stop the bus to it would quit splashing his siblings on his way to school. He also fights T.J down at the Wallace Store when he gets into trouble for what T.J did. He then helped T.J. get back to his house after he got beat up by R.W and Melvin.
Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. In the book, Mildred Taylor writes many times when a character has to show courage. Stacey had to show courage when Papa was gone and he had to step up and be the man of the house, when, the night men attacked them, and when he had to help TJ get home and help the Avery’s.
The novel ‘Roll of Thunder, hear my Cry’ conveys the message that there were indeed white people that did want the two races to live equally. Jeremy is a clear example of a character conveying this message.
In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, I think that the theme is Never give up. A character that I believe shows and displays these characteristics throughout the book is Papa also known as David Logan. One of his character traits that I believe drives the theme is his determination. Papa faces many challenges throughout the book. Some of the challenges took more time to recover from than others.
‘You some mama’s boy or somethin’ you got do everything your Mama tells-” (Taylor Chapter 4) and “You go on if you wanna,’ said Stacey quietly, not rising to T.J’s bait, but we are staying here.” This shows that Stacey has so much courage, and such strong convictions that he will not fall into peer pressure.
