I received my ASN in 1989 from Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta, GA, and my BSN in 1995 from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. During my studies, we had two additional daughters; both of whom are now masters prepared educators in the city of Dallas school system. Taking care of our now 36-year old mentally challenged daughter is still an awesome experience. I have never regretted taking the path to nursing and I am thankful that my initial college experiences did not reflect my potential as a professional
Nursing has changed over time from the instruments that are used, the process that procedures are done, and many medical advances. Nursing back in the Florence Nightingale days did not have specialties like we do today either. Nursing has a whole has progressed significantly since then. I believe that the history of nursing is important because we as nurses need to know where we come from and how this profession became what it is today. Without many prominent nurses such as Florence Nightingale, Mary Breckinridge, Agatha Cobourg Hodgins, and Adda Eldredge nursing would not be what it is today. The American Association for the History of Nursing is an association that nurses can join if they have an interest in the history of

they also receive on the job training as education through trial and error while working
My nursing background is in women and children’s health care. As a clinician, I have practiced in acute and primary care settings. My professional interests include nursing genomics, nursing leadership, and new program development.
In my family, I come from a long line of women who are nurses. They all show and talk about how proud they are of their work and how difficult the job can be. I’ve heard stories growing up about how long the odd hours are and the crazy indescribable things you may encounter as a nurse in the emergency room or operating room. I can imagine the stress and the emotional front my relatives have to put on a daily basis. It seems like to me that this job should only be recommended to those who are able to put their emotions aside for the sake of their job and the patients that they treat. Nursing also has it benefits too, such as the feeling of joy when you are able to help take care of someone very ill and to see them get better because of your care. My cousin Gretchen explains what her favorite thing and least favorite thing about being a registered nurse. She explains, “I love being respected and trusted by people during their recovery period in the hospital”. She also talks about how proud she is about doing something that appreciated and at the same time is vital for all human beings. Her least favorite part of working as a registered nurse is handling numerous patients who all have very different personalities as well as illnesses. I think anyone would feel this way if they were in my cousin’s situation as a nurse who deals with all sorts of people on a daily basis. Having a small amount of patients at a time is easy to manage and is still pretty stressful, but dealing with
Ever since I was young, the most eye-catching career that caught my attention was nursing. I had always been interested in their ability to take care of patients in the hospitals and help those in need. Although I do not have any family influence during my youth, I was determined that this career was going to be my goal for a good profession as an adult. I wanted to provide support, care, and comfort to people who are not availed with advanced medical technologies, such as those in my home town, Ormoc City, PHL, who are suffering from extreme poverty. Not only does being a nurse guarantee the best of others, it also promises a secure life for me and my own family in the future. The perks and benefits of nursing are, first and
