Wuthering Heights, written by Emily Bronte is a story about love and tragedy. This can be compared to Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare which also shows the true devotion of two people to each other. Both the story of Romeo and Juliet, and Healthcliff and Catherine are filled with the harsh truth about the reality of love. It is through this affection, that both pairs of lovers will discover sorrow in the end.
Romeo and Juliet is a story about the glorious love of Romeo and Juliet along with the tragedy that follows. Romeo shows himself as a very irrational person, falling madly in love as quickly as he can find it. This can be similar to Heathcliff as he quickly falls in love with Catherine when he arrives to Wuthering Heights. Romeo, being irrational, finds his soon to be wife, Juliet. Once Romeo meets Juliet he instantly falls in love, though Juliet is at first hesitant from accepting his affection. Romeo idolized Juliet as Heathcliff idolized Catherine. Romeo even once states, "Its is the east and Juliet is the sun" (II,ii,2). This shows that to Romeo, his own life revolves around his own love of beloved Juliet. In the end of Romeo and Juliet both Romeo and Juliet kill themselves. After Romeo sees what he thinks is Juliet dead within her tomb, he drinks poison out of the wish to be with her even in the end. It is only when Juliet wakes up only moments later to discover that her own love, Romeo, is dead. Thus Juliet takes Romeo's dagger and stabs herself, for the same wish as Romeo to be with him after death. The ending of Wuthering Heights is not as satisfactory. Catherine died a while before Heathcliff so the momentum and weight of the death had wore off by the time of Heathclff's death, which made it not so dramatic. It is the drama in Romeo and Juliet's ending that really captures the readers
