Have you ever felt true love? Sometimes it does not always work out in that relationship. Maybe outside factors affected how a relationship turned out in the end. In the tragedy, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, both characters Romeo and Juliet died and had a bumpy relationship mainly due to outside factors. Romeo and Juliet had many outside factors affect their relationship. Characters such as Friar Laurence, Tybalt, themselves, or even fate. During the story, Tybalt and Romeo never saw eye to eye which resulted in Tybalt’s personality to possibly lead to a chain of events. Tybalt challenged Romeo to a duel, “BENVOLIO: Tybalt, the kinsman to old Capulet, Hath sent a letter to his father’s house. MERCUTIO: A challenge, on my …show more content…
This quote means that Friar Laurence agreed to Romeo’s proposal of marrying a girl he has barely met and one that is from his rival family. An example that also supports the fault on Friar Laurence is lying to Capulet about Juliet being dead when in actuality she was alive yet in a coma sourced from his potion. An additional example could also be his devised plans such as the moment he created the plan to get Romeo to open a coffin that Juliet would be in once she awoke from her coma to be reunited together once more, which seems extremely suspicious and this mess could have been prevented in the first place if he remained smart over his actions. Overall, Friar Laurence could have prevented their deaths if only he was heedful with his actions. Because both Romeo and Juliet were head over heels for each other they are also a possibility for the fault of their death. An example could be when Romeo fell in love with Juliet in the first place which caused all the events of the story to occur. Another could be when Juliet was suicidal, “JULIET: And ere this hand, by thee to Romeo’s sealed, shall be the label to another deed, or my true heart with treacherous revolt turn to another, this shall slay them both. Therefore, out of thy long-experienced time, give me some present counsel; or, behold, ’twixt my extremes and me this bloody knife shall play the umpire, arbitrating that which the commission of thy years
In the play “Romeo & Juliet” shakespeare portrayed all aspects of love throughout different characters. Each character carries its own meaning of love which is what makes this play unique. Romeo,Nurse, and Tybalt all represent divergent love. The word Love can come in all sorts of ways which is why it is such a diverse word. Love is a powerful term that can be portrayed as deep affection, devotion, and even heartbreak.
In this quote Friar Laurence is telling Juliet to take the vial and to drink it when she goes to bed. This fluid (while going through her veins) will make her cold and drowsy and make it appear as if she does not have a pulse. However, her blood will continue moving naturally and will not stop. If the Friar had not given her the vial, Romeo would not have heard the news that she was dead and therefore would not have killed himself in Capulet’s tomb. Another basis of accusing Friar Laurence of the deaths of the two, is the fact that Romeo did not receive the information about the plan. The Friar tells Juliet, “In this resolve. I’ll send a friar with speed/To Mantua, with my letters to thy lord” (IV.i.1123-124). The Friar is telling Juliet that he will send a friar to Mantua with a letter, saying their plan. He should have sent the letter personally and not relied on another friar to deliver such an urgent and important message. Since the entire plan was his idea he should have followed through with it, making sure the information was
Many people blame fate for the death of Romeo and Juliet. One reason being that Romeo and Juliet’s meeting at the party was determined by fate. However, Romeo went to the party because of love, and he wanted to see if he could find some else better than Rosaline. He saw Juliet and found a new love. Therefore, love is a stronger competitor than fate for their meeting. Moreover, another argument is that the prologue calls Romeo and Juliet “star-crossed lovers”, also known as lovers who are doomed because of outside forces (such as fate). While Romeo and Juliet may have had tough circumstances regarding their relationship, their doom was their own decision. They killed themselves in the name of love, not because of chance or
The most blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is fate. In the prologue, it says, “A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life…” (Doc A). “Starcross’d” means that it is destined Romeo and Juliet are not to be together. Their love is cursed by fate to end in tragedy. The prologue also says “From forth the fatal loins of these two foes…” (Doc A). In Shakespeare’s
The morning after Romeo and Juliet are married, Benvolio encourages Mercutio to leave a public place when he sees a group of Capulets and fears danger. Instead, Mercutio stays and provokes Tybalt after he asks to speak to one of them. As Romeo enters, Tybalt draws his sword, but the newlywed refuses to fight by announcing, “Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee/ Doth much excuse the appertaining rage” (Shakespeare 3.1.57-58). Mercutio prepares to fight, assuming Romeo is afraid to battle the “King of Cats”. In a pursuit to cease the quarrel, Romeo steps in between the enemies with his arms raised. Oblivious to a forthcoming attack, he futilely declares, “Tybalt, Mercutio, the Prince expressly hath/ Forbid this bandying in Verona streets” (Shakespeare 3.1.82-83). Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm, disregarding his enemy’s words. While dying, Romeo’s loyal friend turns against him and curses “A plague o’ both your houses! …Why the devil/ came you between us? I was hurt under your arm” (Shakespeare 3.1.93-96). Romeo could not duel Tybalt because he had just married his cousin and Capulet was a “name I tender/ As dearly as mine own” (Shakespeare 3.1.66-67). Therefore, he did not pick a side and good-naturedly tried to step between the opponents, but his neglect to the attack from behind
The female protagonist of the play is Juliet, I would relate to her more as a female. Juliet carries traits of impulsive dramatics, passionate and loyal. Her Virtues as a princess show inner strength to be much more mature than perceived. Juliet is loyal because she sticks by her husband even after he kills her cousin and throughout the play she claims that without Romeo she will die, and she is loyal to herself because when she loses Romeo she really does kill herself. The antagonists which there is plenty in this play but mainly aiding in this story are the Montagues and Capulets. They are not a mixture of good or bad, they deem to be doing right, but really are planning the rest of her life, so they can gain more as royalty court. They are not complex to know why they choose their daughters path. There are more people who fuel the path toward the tragedy, but this feud is a main focus.
In the story Romeo and Juliet written by Shakespeare between the years of 1594-1596, and takes place in Verona Italy. This story is a tragic story which means that a lot of the main characters die off. There are two families that are in the middle of a feud, the Montague and the Capulet. This feud began years ago and has continued throughout the play. Romeo belongs to the Montague family while Juliet belongs to the Capulet family. In this play one of the major themes is about how someone’s name which is considered their identity.
In William Shakespeare’s classic play, Romeo and Juliet, the audience is immediately introduced to the influential, feuding families known as the Montagues and the Capulets. The long standing feud between these houses has created much division in the town of Verona throughout the years. Although the love that Romeo and Juliet find, could have potentially created peace between them, ultimately the long-standing hatred is too powerful a force and leads to much destruction. The unfortunate clash of two hot headed, young men from each family, Romeo and Tybalt, creates a chain reaction of disordered events that eventually escalates into a disastrous end for the two young lovers. Hatred surrounds all characters, is all consuming, and ultimately drives the plot resulting in immense disorder and tragedy.
In The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, there is a certain contrast between the young and the adults, although their actions represent the same foolish qualities: haste and thoughtlessness. Two young star-crossed lovers receive help from two adults who recognize their love, unlike everyone else who is covered under a haze of hate. But essentially, this help is what leads to the deaths of many. Romeo and Juliet’s hasty choice to marry might seem like the most irrational decision and the biggest mistake of all, but really, if Friar Lawrence and The Nurse didn’t aid their reckless actions or if old Capulet and Montague resolved their pointless argument, this story might not have been entitled to such a grave ending.
In a world where everyone just wants to fit in, it is all the more necessary for people to be proud and confident in what they believe in. If people do not stand up for their beliefs, imperative changes in society may not be made, leaving current problems unresolved. For example, if someone disagrees with animal cruelty, but does not do anything to oppose it, these terrible acts will continue. However, if the person has pride and confidence in the opposition, a stand may be made, transforming the current practices and possibly bringing them to an end. On the contrary, when pride consumes all of one’s thoughts and emotions, only arrogance and greed prevail. These negative traits that ensue can be even more destructive than vanity. With this pride, having a high reputation among others quickly becomes a priority, while aspiring to express positive traits loses importance. Similarly, in William Shakespeare’s famous play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt and Lord Capulet’s prideful natures cause them to pursue wealth and status, tragically preventing the pursuit of forgiveness and compassion.
In Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet, the actions made by multiple characters contribute to the deaths. The inconsiderate actions had consequences which are shown through the emotions and the deaths of multiple characters, including the two youngest characters which leaves the audience heartbroken and in awe.
For my director's notebook, I decided to base it on one of the most classic plays written in history, Romeo and Juliet. The play was written by William Shakespeare, and encompasses the tragic love story of two people who could never be with each other, due to who they were. In the play, it is seen, that there is a separation between the characters and the ways they live their lives. For instance, the Montagues spent their lives hating and looking down on the Capulets, just like they did to them. With the continuous exchanges of disgust it started to cause fighting between the two, and this is where we start to see to root problem of the story.
Many of Romeo and Juliet’s plot points are driven through brash decisions made by the character Tybalt, and his audible hatred of the Montague family. Tybalt is the young hot-heated individual who will jump at any chance to destroy the Montague family and their heir. From the first time Tybalt sees the main protagonist in the story he jumps at the opportunity to slay him and by just hearing his voice asks his servant to “fetch me my rapier boy”(1.5.52) in order to purge the Montague from the party. He shall “strike him dead” as he “hold it not a sin”(1.5.57) and by accordance the murder would not be a sin in the eyes of his family. Tybalt without any thinking instantly had made his decision that it would be alright to kill a man who had simply been enjoying a party. And without any thought he had begun to plan for a murder that would jeopardize him despite Prince earlier having stated that “If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace”(1.1.89-91). Tybalt had repeatedly acted on these violent tendencies which had later into the story costed him his life as he had gone after Romeo without any thought besides the emotional hatred and distaste he feels towards Romeo. In the street in the middle of the day Tybalt had “under Romeo’s arm, thrusts Mercutio in”(3.1.83). Even while being held back by Romeo he had relentlessly slaughtered Mercutio as Mercutio had challenged Tybalt instead and because of this Romeo later slays him as revenge for
Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s beautifully written tragedies portraying love, hate, and destiny all in the town of Verona. During the play Shakespeare introduces a complex character, Juliet, a thirteen year old girl, daughter of a wealthy family, the Capulets. When two teenagers cross paths, will their love conquer all? Or will conflict get in their way? In this essay, I will argue that Juliet is an admirable character because of her ability to evolve into a mature young lady all in a period of five days. Juliet is Shakespeare’s most powerful character portraying the epitome of a woman with great strength amidst adversity.
In Shakespeare's play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, the ones to be at fault are Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, and Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence was chosen because he was the one to marry them together thinking it could stop the feud, but somehow turned into a disaster after something important did not get delivered. Lord Capulet tells Juliet that she could either choose to marry him now or wait till she is older, Lord Capulet eventually takes Juliet’s choices away. Lady Capulet straight up tells Juliet to just marry Paris without any hesitation, she will then start to threaten Juliet.
