Edward Everett Hale once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” This quote being from an important person, just hints at the fact that humans are deeply connected to the tendency to come together after a heartbreaking tragedy. This connects to the whole idea of my thesis because it shows how people coming together is the start of something the can be greater than anything before. Tragedies can be hard but if we work to together we can show the true ideals of humanity. In the text, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare we see the emotion hatred changed into respect, this proves how we as humans in times of great despair tend to come together because, in these times, we need more …show more content…
This was one of the worst events in American history but instead of breaking apart most of America came together to help the problem. This in many ways hints to the situation for the two families in Romeo and Juliet. The whole idea of this event is seen as a tragedy but many good things came of this tragedy and America became a better nation because of it. In this attack, a terrorist group named al Qaeda, run by Osama bin Laden, attacked the buildings in New York City known as The Twin Towers. In the attack, al Qaeda hijacked four commercial airline planes with the intent of crashing them into The Pentagon, The Twin Towers, and the White House. After this event, the President of the United States had to say this. "Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature, and we responded with the best of America, with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could." This was enough to bring the nation even more together and turn one of the worst event in American History to be not as devastating. Strengthening the connection between everyone in the United States. The original intent of al Qaeda was to split the nation and spread panic. Although, they did end up spreading panic they actually brought the nation together through this tragic
On the morning of September 11, 2001 life as we know it in America changed forever. 19 men from a Muslim extremist organization known as al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes with the intent of killing thousands of Americans. Three of the four airplanes hit their targets, the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, the last plane was crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania after the passengers tried to regain control. These attacks killed almost 3,000 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. The man behind these attacks was a Saudi Arabian man named Osama bin Laden. These attacks caused mass panic throughout the world, but it also increased patriotism throughout the United States. It also is what got us into the Global War on Terror.
When the first airplane hit the north tower, people all over the world were confused, in shock, and in denial. Many people thought that it was an accident, but when the second plane hit the south tower, everyone knew it was a terrorist attack on America. People all across America came together to help the impacted citizens, whether they were in the building or a loved one of theirs was in the building. Concluding to that the societal response was one of the most significants impacts of 9/11 on the United States.
An important event that is known to be so far the most tragic attack in American history, it left Americans with a constant fear of another terrorist attack, this tragic event is known as 9/11. This tragedy occurred when an Islamic group known as al-Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center in New York City. Al-Qaeda’s leader was Osama bin Laden, a Saudi fugitive seeking retaliation for America’s involvement in the Persian Gulf War, its support of Israel, and the military’s constant presence in the Middle East. Their plan to invade America began on the morning of September 11, 2001 when 19 militants hijacked 4 American Airline planes and were targeting attacks in the United States.
Anna Quindlen the author of the essay “A Quilt of a Country” argues that tragedy and enemy attacks unite the people of the United States due to her use of examples of wars and terrorist attacks. Quindlen describes the world trade center attack and what it caused she states, “Terrorism has led to devastation- and unity.” The September 11 terrorism attack affected the whole nation. The attack killed many loved ones and destroyed our buildings. The cold war was a war that harmed the United states, Quindlen mentions this about wars and terrorism, “Today the citizens of the United States have come together once more because of armed conflict and enemy attack.”
On September 11, the US suffered 4 coordinated terrorist attacks. The Islamic group Al-Qaeda, targeted 4 US symbolic landmarks. They targeted the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and Washington. 4 hijacked planes, they managed to take out the west side of the Pentagon, crash into both of the World Trade Centers, due to the passengers in the fourth plane’s attempt to reclaim the hijacked aircraft it landed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. So many lives lost, this day was truly a day of grief and sorrow for the US citizens. The US responded to their attack and went to war with the terrorists.
1. In this Scene, the nurse is shown to have a really close bond with Juliet. She seems to have a better relation than her mother. The nurse lost her daughter “Susan”(1.3 Line 20) as she was the same “age”(1.1 Line 21) as Juliet, which makes the nurse closer to Juliet and treats her as a daughter.
Firefighters and policemen struggled to get the sufferers out of the building safely. Some went up the treacherous flight of stairs to gather people still holding on by a limb, and never came back down. Soon we were informed about a plane crashing into the Pentagon. And Two other flights brought down due to lost control. None of these incidents were accidents. They were all coordinated by Al-Qaeda. The objective of the attack was to raise fear in America’s eyes and to invoke terror. And ultimately demonstrate we’re not as powerful, and untouchable as we thought. As a result of this nationwide scare, we now experience mass amounts of racial profiling. Also, airport security processing will never be the same again. Finally, the growing presence of fear and threat of terror in the United States of America. Conclusively, thousands of lives were ripped away and the lives of those still living during this time, forever
On September 11th, hijackers took over four planes; collided into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and the fourth into a field near Skanksville, Pennsylvania. 2,973 victims and the 19 hijackers died in a result of these attacks. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_attacks) They were conceived to be a range of suicides by al-Qaeda. In return, Americans assembled together like never before. The Nation was in need of answers and subject to vulnerability. The president at the time, George W. Bush, launched the War On Terror and also put into effect the Patriot Act.
No other event in American history has impacted America so largely. The twin towers both employed about 50,000 people and held about 160 businesses. Nearly 10,000 lives were feared to be lost. In this attack, more than lives were lost. About 30,000,000,000 dollars worth of property was reduced to ashes.
The act of everyone working together created a very heartwarming sense of community in a time of confusion. Although 9/11 is viewed as a devastating tragedy, it also provided not only the citizens of New York, but all of America with many important lessons, and a wake-up call. One of the most tragic things about it was how many lives were taken, and also how people were left feeling in the aftermath. This allowed for people to take a more positive outlook on life, while also being more appreciative of things they have. Overall, although 9/11 altered many people’s lives for the worse, it provided Americans and people all over with many important lessons that are applicable to life
First of all, the crashing of the plane caused the loss of many lives. “A total of 2,977 innocent people were killed and 6,000 were injured in New York City, Washington, D.C., and outside of Shanksville, in the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history” (“September”). Two airplanes were hijacked and intentionally crashed into the twin towers; the crash resulted in the majority of
On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. Bush” (History). 9/11 is one of the most tragic events in the history of America, minute by minute people feared and this fear brought the country together in a way that it never did
Romeo and Juliet is a story based on conflict. The conflict in the story is Capulet against Montague. From ancient times, the two families have held grudges against each other. As the book states. “Two households, alike in dignity...from ancient grudge break to new mutiny. Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean (1.Prologue.1-4).” The grudge between the two families has led to fighting and even death.
It was a series of catastrophic terrorist attacks that changed many people’s lives and will be forever unforgettable. It began as a lovely sunny day but in a matter of hours, many lives were lost and the safety of our nation was in immediate danger. These attacks were a changing point in American society and are the most tragic event in American history. Not only Americans but Muslims and Islamist were
