The form of love initially unveiled to us, is that of superficial love, and occurs as Romeo falls in love with Rosaline at the start of the play. It is depicted as being shallow, and a rather mindless infatuation, owing to his youth, and lack of familiarity with love. A quote by Romeo which clearly demonstrates this is, “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.” (I.v.54-55). Romeo here, speaks of Juliet, who he immediately falls in love with after laying his eyes on her, and talks of her physical attractiveness overpowering Rosaline’s. Shakespeare uses the comparative technique of analogy to compare Rosaline, with Juliet, who then becomes his new love interest within a matter of seconds. This
