Explain whether or not you believe that the characters in the story control their own destiny. Do the characters in the story make their own big decisions in life? They do not Control their own destiny because they are told who to talk to and who to marry even when they are against it. “Still my care is to have her matched.” Said Capulet (3.5.205) Capulet is saying that it is his job to have Juliet matched. For the same reason, society Is controlling the two sides of the family His name is Romeo and a Montague, the only son of your great enemy.” –Nurse (1.5.135) She is saying the relationship can’t happen because of the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. Besides fate controls the two lovers’ destiny, they have no control over
The concept of fate has touched many lives throughout the centuries, and over time it, along with its counterpart free will, has [been?] transcended into the form of literature. Its influence is evident in Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, particularly in how Pip, and his object of affection, Estella, are repeatedly subjected to preordained events. Furthermore, free will, or the ability to determine our own destiny, also holds sway over the characters in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, specifically Romeo and Juliet themselves. Free will has a greater influence on the characters in Romeo and Juliet than fate, while in Great Expectations, it proves to be the opposite, with fate having more heavily impacted Pip, and his associates.
Some people may not believe that destiny is something that truthfully exists in the world. These people doubt that there is anything that is actually meant to be, or supposed to happen, thinking that there is always a way around troubling predicaments, knowing that it is not necessary to turn out just one certain way. They trust that whatever occurs in their lives comes as a result of the decisions that they make with their own free will. Others believe that whatever happens during the course of their lives is inevitable and every event is laid out before them like a road map to life, in other words, fate. William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet has fate as an exceptionally crucial element which makes fate as important as any

In William Shakespeare’s play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, fate plays one of the largest roles in the plot. In order to understand how fate plays a role it is important to examine how the story begins, when Romeo meets Juliet, and when Romeo fights Tybalt after Tybalt kills Mercutio.
When telling the tragic, but beloved story of Romeo and Juliet from one of William Shakespeare’s many plays there are several characters in the story that could possibly be held responsible for the star-crossed lovers deaths. Three of those many characters should stand out more than others to blame for the beloved main characters deaths. These three characters are the Feud, Lady Capulet, and Fate. The Feud is one choice to blame because it it the cause of many other conflicts that take place in the story. While Lady Capulet does not cause as many conflicts as the Feud she does present one main problem to Juliet by pressuring her to get married to Paris as soon as possible. Lastly Fate is used many times in the play to explain why Romeo and
I said before no, and that is what i am saying now i do not think that other people's opinions should affect your own choices or destiny. I believe this because you should do what you want, what makes you happy. It doesn't matter what other people are thinking as long as you're happy with what you're doing in your life it shouldn't matter what others think. All of the stories that I read about star crossed lovers demonstrated this by being with the person that they were not allowed to see and that should have been their enemy.
Romeo and Juliet, the two most exciting lovers ever created, both would die for each other, but were the two actually in love? Studies have shown that the part of the brain which controls logical reasoning matures by the time someone turns sixteen, but the part of the brain which is responsible for self control can still be maturing in young adulthood. (http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2012/05/28/do-we-need-to-redefine-adulthood/adulthood-what-the-brain-says-about-maturity). This sparks the question, did Romeo have control over his love for Juliet. The answer is no. Romeo did not have control over himself because he was so madly in love, and anyone who would die for their beloved is truly in love.
When reading Romeo and Juliet. Montaques, Capulets already determined to hate each other in this family feud. The two offsprings of the lords are bound by fate to be together. Capulet is the one to blame for the harsh death of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet with love in their fate Capulet, unaware of the love that is in fate decided to arrange a party that Romeo and Juliet have met their fate. Second of all Capulet was already had pre-determined plans with Gentle Count Paris to have his beloved daughter Juliet to marry him at the right age. Although Capulet had no intentions to ruin her life. He was in fact in favor for his daughter not letting Paris to marry her so soon and wait for her approval. Without Capulet turning down Paris at that moment Juliet would have been married to Count Paris before she would have met Romeo. Unfortunately at the end when Tybalt dies his choices became into impulses making him the doom's day of Romeo’s and Juliet’s death.
The fact that Free Will didn’t take control of the story; it left Fate to be the murder of the lovers. Fate first kicked in when their eyes met at the Capulet party. When Romeo and Juliet spoke, their words had powerful contentment; they had such a strong feeling for one another that they could lay in each other’s arms forever. Their happiness didn’t last long; there were many reasons for this, for example; the marriage Lord Capulet arranged between Paris and Juliet. I believe that the plot of the play thus far leads the audience to believe that the deaths were a result of fate. The last act will determine once and for all if it is Fate or Free Will. Romeo again challenges Fate by
‘Shakespeare intends the audience to see that the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was destined to happen’
William Shakespeare is a famous poet and playwright who is considered to be a great English writer. One of his most famous plays he has written is Romeo and Juliet. It is set in Verona, Italy where there is a feud between the Capulet family and Montague family. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, meet and fall in love with each other. They got married, but end up committing suicide. The deaths of Romeo and Juliet are argued to be fate (destined to happen) or free-will (shaped by choices). The deaths of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are a result of free-will for many reasons. For example, Romeo decided to attend the Capulet’s party, Romeo and Juliet decided to marry each other, and Romeo and Juliet decided to kill themselves.
Love is one of the most powerful choices we make in life. Since we were born, our parents, peers, and family have always wanted the best for us, and some choices we make like who we date and think about if you want to spend the rest of your life with that person. Your parents have a big influence on your life choices. To most people, having their parents decide whether or not they can marry someone, isn't what most people prefer. The idea of having parents help you to decide or just decide whether or not they want you to marry this person. At what extent should a parent have control of their child’s decisions? Parents should decide who their child should marry because they have more experience, they know when their child is ready,
In the beginning of “Romeo and Juliet”, Shakespeare states them as star crossed lovers and locks them into the fate of death. Star crossed lovers indicate fate and destiny and the whole conclusion of Romeo and Juliet is based on fate and destiny and that everything that happened was bound to happen. Throughout the storyline many event took place because it was written, it was going to happen, it was simply destiny. The whole story of the two lovers could’ve been massively different of what it is now, if just destiny had chosen them to be together. Destiny and fate play a major role in this story because the final tragedy and the destruction of the protagonists were based upon it.
In William Shakespeare's tragic play Romeo and Juliet, there are four quotes about fate and choice. The characters in the play choose their own fate, it happens because of their choices or actions. First, in the beginning of the play Romeo and Juliet are referred to as 'a pair of star-crossed lovers' (Romeo and Juliet, Prologue). Second, Romeo explains to Mercutio how he has a dream that if he goes to the Montague party he will die, but Romeo chooses to go to the party anyway. Third, Romeo kills Tybalt right after his marriage to Juliet. Fourth, Romeo decides to commit suicide because he hears of Juliet's death.
In the book Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, fate plays a large role in moving the plot along. It does this by bringing people together. Fate also plays a role in a couple people’s deaths, including the main characters, Romeo and Juliet.
