After Juliet's encounter with Romeo, she asks her nurse who Romeo is. Discovering her new love is the great enemy of her family, she exclaims "My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late!" In other words, Juliet had fallen in love without knowing he is an enemy. Her disappointment, for foolishly falling in love makes her wish she had known earlier. Now her love for him cannot be contained. By using repetition, the words "my only" and "too" the quote was able to emphasize Juliet's distress. Furthermore, the use of couplet in the quote helped the speech move smoothly and articulately. Thus, the significance of the quote, the introduction of Juliet's personality and attitude. Although Juliet knows about the
Tybalt, a committed Capulet, always showing superior towards Montagues, is the perfect example of personification of hate in Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt plays an important character in Romeo and Juliet because of his aggressive and arrogant personality which causes major conflicts and catastrophes.
I think this quote is important because this is when the nurse found Juliet after she faked her death to be with Romeo, and because of that she will never see her family again. When Juliet took the potion she knew she was risking everything, and knew she might not see her family again. Her parents and the nurse are now filled with grief from her death that will stay with them throughout the rest of the story. Overall, this quote was the first to announced Juliet's plan to fake her death worked, and now the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is even closer.
“The devil takes a hand in what is done in haste”. Haste is a major theme shown throughout William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. Many of the characters were impetuous in their actions and as a result, the consequences were tragic. The play itself unfolds throughout 4 short days. Lord Capulet was too eager in his desire for Juliet’s marriage to Paris, which ultimately led to her betrayal. Romeo’s rash decision to fall in love with Juliet soon became fatal. Juliet’s impulsive decision to avoid marriage ended her own life.
In this world hate means many different things. For some people hate may mean the emotion they feel against their country for all the deaths and disparities that the war torn country has caused them. For others the word could mean that the teen is going through a phase and may “hate” their parents for not getting them the a in style piece of clothing or a resplendent new phone. But in the 1300’s there was a whole different rationale of the word “hate”.
Throughout the play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, many different types of love are shown, however, I believe loyal, parental love, and romantic love are the most popular and influential types of love throughout the story. The Capulets and Montagues show loyalty for their house, the friar shows parental love for Romeo as the nurse shows parental love for Juliet, and Romeo and Juliet show romantic love for each other. These three types of love, loyal love, parental love, and romantic love, show many similarities to one another as they do differences.
The parents sadly watch their children being carried into the family tomb. The play, by William Shakespeare, displays the relationships of Romeo and Juliet. This drama takes place in Verona, Italy, where the Capulets and Montagues are feuding. Poor relationships, deceit, and poor advice leads to tragedy. The teenagers relationships with their families are soon tested.
In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, he once wrote, “Within the infant rind of this weak flower Poison hath residence and medicine power: For this, being smelt, with that part cheers each part; Being tasted, stays all senses with the heart. Two such opposed kings encamp them still In man as well as herbs-grace and rude will; And where the worser is predominant, Full soon the canker death eats up that plant,”(2.3.23-31). This was written from the Friar Lawrence’s point of view for Romeo and Juliet, and the meaning behind this quote can be applied in the book, Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
A poster has infiltrated the ranks of the holy house of God, no, perhaps the devil has infiltrated the mind of a man once faithful, but anyone, the subject of this matter, a ‘priest of God’ should only gain the most wretched of punishments. William Shakespeare, an ingenious thinker and a perspicacious writer who put into life many stories, “Romeo and Juliet” being one of which that put great fame into his name. Friar Laurence has turned from his ways as a holy priest to abuse his power, and make the utmost irrational choices. To abuse power in a position that should otherwise only use it to help the weak and sick is an unacceptable act. For example, during the second act of the act in “Romeo and Juliet” Friar Laurence says, “to turn rancor
Romeo becomes convinced that Juliet is the most beautiful creature he has ever seen and ever will see. “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” (I, 5, 57-58). Romeo says that his heart has never loved before that moment and that his eyes confirm that Juliet is truly a beauty to be sought. This quote shows how Romeo quickly forgets his lovesickness for Rosaline and falls deeply in love with Juliet. He says that he has never loved before showing that by fate directing Romeo to the party and Juliet to his heart, that fate brings Romeo and Juliet together.
In the poem, Juliet expresses three main traits: caution, passion, and loyalty. Juliet is extremely cautious when it comes to Romeus as she worries that his intentions are misguided. She demonstrates this when she proclaims, “But if by wanton love and by unlawful suit You think in ripest years to pluck my maidenhood's dainty fruit, You are beguiled.” (Lines 86-88). However, once Romeus assures her of his love for her, her loyalty can be clearly seen. Juliet vows that she will remain loyal by stating, “Both me and mine I will all whole to you betake, And following you whereso you go, my father's house forsake.” (Lines 84-85). Essentially, she would abandon her family to be with him. Finally, her passion ties in with her desires. The author notes that “of both that she rejoicéd more” and she says, “For you, mine own, once dead, what joy should I have here?” These quotes not only demonstrate her passion for Romeus, but it also proves that above all else, she desires to be
Juliet is also very treats her life as though she has no control. When told that she in the future might marry the County Paris, she says that she will hope to love him once she sees him.” I’ll look to like, if looking liking move; But no more deep will I endart mine eye Than your
Juliet also shows this when she finds out Romeo is a Montague by saying, “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Lady Capulet, Juliet’s mother, talks to Juliet about getting married soon. Juliet agrees to give Paris, the man she is supposed to marry, a shot. However, after she meets Romeo at the party and finds out that he is a Montague, Juliet states how her fate is unlucky. She says that her “only love, [is] sprung from [her] only hate!”, which shows just how dramatic she is being, when they only just met. After Juliet finds out that Romeo has been banished, she says how she would rather die than live without him.
