Romeo and Juliet: Theme of Love - Written Rationale For Petcha Kutcha To begin, a blooming flower marks more than just the commencement of spring. I decided to visually perceive a blooming flower within my slides as it portrays the importance of Romeo and Juliet 's love. Juliet verbalizes to Romeo that, “this bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath/ May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.” (2.3.121-122) The flower bud describes the beginning of their love while the blooming flower represents their growing love. In Act 2, the blooming flower utilises the commitment that Juliet wants from Romeo. Further, Juliet tells Romeo that this is only the start of their relationship and that she cannot make any promises until she is aware …show more content…
To me, this theme is important as it has had an impact on my life. 8 years ago I lost my aunt to cancer. Cancer is a little timer that hits you in the face and tells you "You are only mortal" It slowly takes everything away from you and all at once just blows up inside you. Shakespeare 's play gives the message that it isn’t always about two ill fated lovers and the emotions that their loved one 's show after their death, but instead about how a scenario as such can relate to the audience at a personal level. In a sense, the Capulet and Montague feud was fundamentally two families, bullying each other and ultimately causing the two lovers to keep their love a secret. Within the play, Shakespeare captures bullying with the use of physical violence. Towards the middle of the play, Tybalt bullies Romeo and Mercutio stands up to him but he gets killed. Bullying is displayed as something that is much more brutal than we optically discern it to be. Further, Shakespeare is capable of connecting with his audience. I put the picture of the family feud in because it’s something that it relatable even in this generation moreover, than the theme of love. Love is something that can be brutal and violent and Shakespeare captures how love is not always about chocolate and roses. As a child, I was bullied constantly. Getting bullied is a scary thought, but, it’s like everything you could imagine. Sometimes I can still recollect every insult
Romeo and Juliet shows how the story of true love can break the ancient grudge between two families. The conflict in the story is Capulets against Montagues. From ancient times, the two families have held grudges against each other. As the book states. “Two households, alike in dignity...from ancient grudge break to new mutiny. Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean” (1.Prologue.1-4). The grudge between the two families led to fighting and even death.
How effective is Luhrmann’s film Romeo and Juliet as a modern day appropriation of Shakespeare's play you ask? Baz Luhrmann's appropriation of the original play of “Romeo And Juliet” is highly effective as it is modernized to meet the interests and expectations of a 20th century teenage audience. Throughout the original 16th century play, Shakespeare develops the themes of family rivalry and love. The theme of family rivalry has been implemented into the original play through the conflict between two powerful families in the city of Verona. Throughout his appropriation of the play, Baz Luhrmann successfully preserves the same concept of family rivalry but modernises it by portraying the two families as two large business corporations and brands who are constantly in competition with each other. Shakespeare implements the theme of love through main character Romeo being made to resemble and fulfil the role of a typical "Petrarchan lover". Luhrmann also effectively integrates the theme of love through his successful use of filmic techniques to illustrate the unbreakable love between Romeo and Juliet whose love resembles and portrays the characteristics of a 20th century relationship. Using these modern elements, Luhrmann’s film effectively appeals to the contemporary teenage audience whilst powerfully conveying the themes of family rivalry and love. These adaptations made by Luhrmann in his film create a more comprehensible meaning as teenagers can relate to the film with a
What is the theme for Romeo and Juliet? In my saying for this topic of “theme” for Romeo and Juliet is the forcefulness of love and how love is naturally the play’s dominant and most important theme and to me this play focuses on romantic love, specifically the intense passion that springs up at first sight between Romeo and Juliet. In this saying R&J, love is a violent ,ecstatic, overpowering force that supersedes all other values, loyalties, and emotions. But mostly I see the theme as Fate & Love.
entirely in this scene as he stops thinking of love in a bad way as he

Although I wish those words were gone and erased from my brain they’re still there. Every one of their twisted words manages to stay burned into my mind. Every snicker, every dirty look, every nasty
The feud between the two families is a reason that they are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. The Capulet’s hate the Montague’s so much that Juliet could not tell them that she loves Romeo. Document A states, “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny” (Document A). Meaning that the two
Inevitably, passionate love is woven through “Romeo and Juliet”, declared by speech and insinuated by the couple infatuation with each other. Without a doubt, several scenes were a strong representation of this obsession. Many scenes into the play, the young, lovelorn Romeo is seen in a dismal and in a disconnected state due to his unrequited love for Rosaline. But as his hopeless eyes falls upon Juliet at the Capulet’s ball, Romeo is resurrected from his depression in awe by the mesmerising beauty of Juliet; this was expressed through Romeo’s soliloquy. A little while into the aftermath of the party, Romeo, powered by the newly found momentous love, risks his life climbing the high orchard walls into the deadly grounds of his enemies, the Capulets. Although Juliet fears for Romeo’s life, Romeo fearlessly
In the play `Romeo and Juliet` the writer William Shakespeare uses the theme of love as a main feature to push the story along. Presented are a plethora of variations of love including family love, true love and courtly love. This essay aims to analyse these three types of love chosen.
The theme of love and hate plays a pivotal role in the play in the sense that unbridled passion was a direct result of this theme. The hatred between the two families was fuelled by a passionate disparage towards each other. Shakespeare’s use of the quote “What, ho! You men, you beasts/That quench the fire of your pernicious rage,” [Prince Act 1, Scene 1, Line 85] compares the Capulets and Montagues to beasts. This provides the implication that their hatred towards each other is only a result of unconstrained passion and has no real rational reason to continue. This highlights the spiteful natures of the two families for their lack of self-restrain, linking it back to the theme of love and hate. Their hatred was so strong that it caused the two lovers to go to drastic ends to ultimately end up with each other. As a result of the existing enmity between the two families, the lovers are forced to go
Lord Capulet denounced the love between Romeo and Juliet. The Capulets and the Montagues have had an ongoing feud for years. "In the beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes place, a long-standing hatred between two families erupts into new violence, and citizens stain their hands with the blood of their fellow citizens. Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers and commit suicide. Their unfortunate deaths put an end to their parents' feud.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, two noble families, the Montagues and the Capulets, are at war. This was first shown in Act 1, Scene 1, where the servants of the families quarrel in a ‘public place’. “The quarrel is between our masters, and us their men” (1. 1. 18). From there, the rivalry subplot infuses the entire play and helps drive the plot to its tragic ending. The main point that led to the death of Romeo and Juliet was the ongoing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets.
Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet live their lives growing up as sworn enemies. Whereas,Without the Family Feud Romeo and Juliet would never have to be secretive about their love. They wouldn't need to express their feelings to only each other, the nurse, and Friar Lawrence. The conflict has caused so much struggle
The word love can mean many things. Love can be an object, emotion, and a life. However, love could lead to a loss of power, prosperity, and status. In the literary work “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare, the readers are introduced to a tragic love story. In this play, readers are also shown the different perspectives of love and the many downfalls it could lead to. The central theme of this work is the recklessness of love. The theme is significant because it is shown throughout the whole story and it’s a strong force that takes place of all the other emotions and values. In this play, Shakespeare uses characters to present different aspects of love. In addition, Nurse, Mercutio, and Romeo completely show what actual love is and what it is like to lose it due to their experiences.
The concept of marriage is a complicated idea that stretches past love. It involves and combines many feelings and creates a union between two people. William Shakespeare depicts the idea of love and marriage well in Romeo and Juliet. Love is a common theme in Romeo and Juliet as Romeo, one of the main characters, experiences it multiple times in the play. Romeo believes himself to be in love with Juliet and eventually marries her for that reason. Although his love for Rosaline came first, she is forgotten after Romeo witnesses Juliet’s beauty and elegance. However, Romeo’s selfish feelings, as well as his impulsive thoughts and actions hinder his marriage from being successful. The way that Romeo is defined by Shakespeare, especially by his warped concept of love and his impulsive actions along with his selfishness all contribute to his lack of preparedness for marriage.
A blooming flower marks more than just the commencement of spring. You visually perceive, I decided to have a blooming flower within my slides as it represents how the love grew from the commencement of the play. In Act 2, Scene 2 Juliet verbalizes to Romeo, “This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath, May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet.” The flower bud describes the commencement of their love. The blooming flower represents their growing love. In the scene where the symbol is utilized, Juliet tells Romeo that this is only the commencement of their relationship, and that she cannot make any promises until she kens that they genuinely love each other. At the terminus of the passage, Juliet wishes that they will become a pulchritudinous flower, by having a true relationship. This picture was consequential to me as throughout life all relationships start out diminutive however, grow with time. Romeo and Juliet's love were just like a flower, growing through the sidewalk cracks and no matter how many times others stepped over it, they kept on growing until the very end.
