Everyone has someone they blame for something that happens, who is the real one to blame for this fault? Most people blame the wrong people. But in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet the blame lies with the family feud because it creates unnecessary conflicts. Some may say that Balthasar holds the most blame for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. After all, Balthasar is the one who tells Romeo Juliet is dead. This causes Romeo’s downward spiral, which ultimately results in Romeo’s death. When she discovers Romeo’s death, Juliet stabs herself. While this may be true, the family feud holds the most blame for the outcome of the play. The fights that are alluded to by the Prince that occurred before the start of the play. Tybalt had killed Mercutio out of anger earlier that day, when Tybalt was alone Romeo ran into him and pulled out his gun and shot Tybalt for revenge of Mercutio. When Romeo kills Tybalt he says this, “Now, Tybalt, take the ‘villain’ back again / That late thou gavest me, for Mercutio’s soul / Is but a little way above our heads, / Staying for thine to keep him company. / Either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (3.1.121-125). They had to keep their marriage a secret from their parents. If they would’ve told their parents about them marrying the enemy then their parents would’ve been really mad. The day after Romeo and Juliet meet at the party they set a schedule to get married that following morning. That next morning Romeo, Juliet, Friar Lawrence, and the Nurse were all their for Romeo and Juliet's marriage. After Romeo and Juliet get married she says this, “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me, That I must love a loathed enemy!” (1.5.136-139). In this quote she is saying she states that the only person she really loved besides her family was the enemy of her family. Because of this they had to keep secret and they couldn’t tell people about this, or they could pay the prices. Because Juliet was married to Romeo and love him she had to find a way to get out of her marriage with Paris. Her attempt of getting out of this marriage was to fake her own death. While shes going over the plans with Friar Lawrence she says this, “Now, when the bridegroom in the morning comes / To rouse thee from thy bed, there art thou dead” (4.1.108-109). She’s basically saying that something will cause her from waking up tomorrow morning and she will be “dead”.
