Change is something that can only occur when an individual or an idea can break the mold of what the norm is and burst through to a new light. Rosa Luxemburg was one of the first, and arguably the best political theorists of the twentieth century. Some may ask what her life and experiences have to offer to the reader for an insight and perspective on the time and struggles that she had to go through. Her life is a great example of a woman overcoming odds and fighting to maintain the political and social beliefs that were always being challenged by the government figures of the time. Luxemburg fought many battles within her jurisdiction. Rosa Luxemburg was born on March 5, 1871 in Zamość, Congress Poland, Russian Empire. She was born a Polish Jew and lived in a Russian-controlled Poland where her father instilled liberal ideas within her while her mother was very well-read and heavily religious. From a very young age Luxemburg was interested in the world of politics. As a child at age 5 she suffered a hip ailment which was mistaken for tuberculosis, and was never fully treated properly, and in turn never healed to full which left Rosa with a slight gimp for the entirety of her life. She was a true believer in God and did everything she could to show god that she is truly a great person. Rosa Parks was always concerned about the racial inequality among whites and blacks. However, she did not become an activist until after her marriage with Raymond Parks- who was a long member of the NAACP. Initially, Raymond did not want Rosa to get involved since it was very dangerous and he was concerned about her safety. However, in December of 1943, Rosa attended her first meeting, she was the only women there and was asked to keep notes and to become the secretary for NAACP (Theoharis 17).
Rosa didn’t give up her seat, and after being arrested and taken out of jail, she took her case to the Supreme Court.
