Leaders are key to successful planning and implementation of change. Weiss (2016) noted, “To be effective in such a marketplace, it is essential to manage change. Companies not only need to manage change to survive, but to create a competitive advantage” (p. 4). In order to remain competitive in the tire industry, Discount Tire Co. leadership should focus on organizational change on the limited geographical locations in which they operate out of compared to its leading tire retailers such as TBC, Les Schwab Tire, Bridgestone Retail Operations, and Cooper Tire & Rubber; and large general retailers selling tires such as Wal-Mart, Costco, and Sears. Moreover, many of these general retailers such as Wal-Mart are expanding their retail operations in the replacement tire market.

i. Darla: To effectively motivate employees to change with the strategy implemented managers will benefit from using the authentic leadership method to gain employee trust and build overall confidence and morale in the different departments Riordan has. This strategy requires managers to be genuine with employees about who he or she is as a manager, encourage open communication, share information to keep employees on the same page, and lastly stick to the ideals and best interest of the company. Using this method is one way Riordan can implement a bureaucratic structure to the current informal customer information function.

Collaboratively linked to the broader society to strengthen community institutions and enhance opportunities for residents. The marginalization of the Roxburry neighborhood throughout its history left the community feeling disempowered and without a sense of self-determination. Many of the problems they faced left the residents feeling helpless to make changes. Given all of the problems stacked against them the community organizers realized they needed to proactively advocate for what they needed outside of the community as well as from the residents. According to Kingsly, a neighborhood cannot just sit back and wait for what comes from the outside. Kingsly highlights how the community may rely on conflict, collaboration and confrontation;

Leadership is critical when executing a strategic change initiative. By differentiating leadership and management, leadership styles and the key factors of change we can better understand what should be done to successfully lead change. Success is not obtained through leadership alone but by developing a group of individuals from all levels of the organization who work together as a team. . (Leban and Stone, 2007)

In order to move forward and keep ahead, I believe an organization need change leaders who have capabilities to have their workforce go from change avoidance to change acceptance. “One of the most significant strengths of an effective leader is the ability to create a positive work climate where people are energized to do their best work, free of unnecessary distractions” (Cronkite, n.d.). During this part of the change process I feel the change leader would have better success if he would be tactful and harness the skills of others by working in a collaborative rather than hierarchical way. Leadership in an organization involves instilling motivation and enthusiasm in the employees. An effective leader knows how to manage and tackle difficult situations and people. Many reasons can cause a force of change in organizations but I feel it’s up to change leaders to manage these planned and unexpected changes. (Word count: 548)
This approach is useful when that the initiators do not have all the information they need to design the change and where others have considerable power to resist. As Tektronix decided to implement the new Oracle ERP system, the company chose to introduce it in phases, based around the specific functionality or a particular geographic region. Implementing in phases, or in waves as Tektronix called it, allowed the company to experience regular feedback on specific areas of implementation, allowing time to adjust processes and scheduling as needed. The phased approach enabled the company to achieve frequent victories, which kept team and employee morale high throughout the process and provided encouragement to the Board despite the high cost and long timeline of the overall implementation.
