Roxy is distinguished as an ironic character because she is a one sixteenth black slave woman, who considers herself of higher importance than the other slaves. If one were to only look upon her they would fail to recognize her black heritage; however, her speech identifies her as a slave woman, Among other black saves she acts in "...a high and sassy way" (Twain 9). Roxy, when among slaves believes herself to be superior due to her racial percentage. She acts rude around the other saves; however, around white people her behavior changes. Roxy acts "...meek and humble enough [around] white people" (Twain 9). Roxy knows that around untainted white people she must act the way a slave should act. She knows her minimal black heritage still outweigh
Sports movies are knows as blockbuster movies. Sports movies are know for there monologues. A monologue is a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of a theatrical or broadcast program. Coach Gary Gaines, in the movie “Friday Night Lights” has a speech called “Being Perfect”. “Being Perfect” is a very powerful, emotional, and motivating speech. This speech is not your normal locker room speech. “Being Perfect’s” purpose is to inform the players and others that it doesn't take much just to feel good about yourself.
Zadie Smith’s speech “Don’t let your fellow human be aliens to you,” explores the idea of how many see that being on your own to achieve the goals you desire is the right way to do it. She illustrates how graduating college makes many feel like this special individual, how you are an individual on your own not needing any support from others but not recognizing to consider that you are one of many. In college people rather concentrate on themselves in order to improve themselves, diagnosing them with this case of self-love. That is just the reality of life in this era of graduates. Smith explains how many individuals want to be different from this lifestyle but in the end they all ended up the same type, “not one-of-a-kind, but one.. of-a kind” (Smith). Showing we are all human and we need each other, everyone is apart of this big generation which give us different projects that you take on together. Many fear that the work of many hands will abstruse the outline of our individual selves however being with others and doing for others, brings great joy and more of a success. The human connection is a desire for all and is one of the generation of graduates greatest rewards, but no one seems to sees that. Smith uses personal experiences to justify her argument towards the importance of community, however her lack of logos and the uses of too much pathos, making her argument over zealous causing the reader to question her credibility.
Linda Chavez seeks to inform Hispanic immigrants and American citizens of the protests between Hispanics and legislation. She also attempts to outline and rid of the common stereotype that Hispanics are an issue to American society because they illegally migrate to the U.S. and raise their flag to harsh legislation. Chavez appears to side with her Hispanic relatives and defends them of their stereotypes by listing various achievements immigrants conquer. In paragraph 8 she states that “80 percent of second generation Latinos graduate from high school. Almost half of second generation Latinos ages 25 to 44 have attended college”. She informs the public of these achievements aiming to rid of the typical Hispanic stereotype that Americans may
Good Evening my fellow neighbors. Most of you know me and for the ones who do not, I am Mabel Dodge. I am the daughter from a family in Buffalo and had what was considered the best education for girls in the nineteenth- century. Instead of going to college, I got married, became a mother and soon, a widow. Later, I traveled abroad and soon married a Boston architect, Edwin Dodge who I later realized the passion I had was no more- so I divorced him. I became bored and began to crave art, the beauty and inspiration! A “salon” in Florence, Italy that I created for the purpose of attracting the most up- and- coming artists in Europe, had me become well known and even a muse for one of Gertrude Stein’s image poems. I reluctantly joined Edwin my husband at the time, who was eager to come back to the United States. I settled in an apartment on the lower Fifth Avenue which most of you have been in for my “evenings” of controversial debates.
She, too, at first believes that she is better than a black person. She perfectly perpetuates the idea that, as a white, she deserves to be treated better than those of different races. Her attitude towards people with differences is a common one among the era, including the idea that she deserves to be in a better position than the other, “inferior” people around her, even if they share the same master.

In literature, slavery and the African American race are often analyzed and interpreted by numerous authors. Mark Twain reveals numerous hitches and aspects of society’s view towards different races throughout many of his novels. In Pudd’nhead Wilson Twain describes the status of African Americans in society, as well as how they are portrayed or believed to act in the eyes of other townsfolk. The portrayal of Roxy and the status of Tom and Chambers both help Twain show the wrongs of the

Jane Yolen uses many forms and techniques to convey distinctive ideas about the Holocaust, humanity and the power of storytelling. This novel is one that needs to be clearly understood to grasp the true meaning of the story. Yolen uses what could be called a radical structure to get the reader involved with the quest to find out the real history of Briar Rose.
Roxy is a biracial woman that is so light in complexion that she could pass for a white woman but because of society, she is labeled a Negro. Who at any moment be subjected back into slavery or her child could be sold off and sent “Down the River” and that is something she is not about to let happen without a fight or even the death of her or her baby. She even stated “Mammy's got to kill you—how kin I do it! But yo' mammy ain't gwine to desert you—no, no; dah, don't cry—she gwine wid you, she gwine to kill herself too”. Watching the Samantha Power commencement speech 2008 you can tell she went up and spoke with confidence and seemed very calm regardless of her scandal when she talked badly about Hillary Clinton. She seemed very apologetic to her audience who were graduating college students, and also giving them thanks for standing by her side regardless of her scandal. I liked how she was open and not embarrassed to mention her problem. That alone lets the audience know that she is honest and sorry for what she had said, even describing herself as a “big mouth” and “ global villain for a day.” Power showed no signs of speech stress like physical sensations, emotional responses or psychological responses when giving her speech, and you can tell she was
Krista Tippet starts her speech by saying, “The adventure of stability.” What is stability? Stability is being “tame,” “safe,” “nice.” Stability often clashes between our political life and our public life, or our “common life.” Our common life should go above and beyond our political life. It is something so much bigger than our endeavors and disciplines, yet as human beings we have forgotten to separate them. In the last century, it has become harder and harder to separate these aspects of our lives because of technology. Ms. Tippet claims that as humans, we are developing the process to think like a species, but our economy, culture, and technological advances has not only prevented us, but halted from thinking like this. Throughout these
