Through completing this activity, I learned more than I have with any other activity I have done thus far while earning my Education Specialist degree. I had to observe a teacher and provide constructive feedback using the Framework for Teaching. This observation included a pre-conference where the teacher told me what she wanted me to pay particular attention to. It required that I observe in real-time, rather than simply using a video where I can pause frequently. I then had to analyze the data I collected during the observation, in order to determine strengths and areas for improvement that I shared during the post-conference. The teacher was a master teacher and thought the lesson went very well. She was shocked when I had some ideas for how to improve her instruction. I mentioned that students seemed fidgety, and she could incorporate more cooperative structures to get students more active in their learning. I also thought she needed cooperative roles for students when they completed their group work, that way everyone was accountable for the work. …show more content…
She said it made her uncomfortable when I used very formal language during our meetings. I also learned that it is important to prepare before observing, so I can take effective notes. This means understanding the form I will be using and talking with the teacher during the pre-conference to get the objective of the lesson, the standards the lesson covers, and an overview of special needs of students in the class. The pre-conference is vital in being prepared for the observation. I also learned that a tape recorded of some sort can be helpful when observing. It allows the observer to go back and provide specific examples for the teacher, which will help them to
As a future teacher, it will be part of my job to increase my students’ moral reasoning. Moral reasoning deals with how individuals think about moral issues. Lawrence Kohlberg developed stages of moral reasoning which researchers use to assess an individual. According to Steinberg (2014), the adults in an adolescent’s life can impact their moral development. Therefore, as their teacher, I will conduct activities in my classroom, such as Collaborative Reasoning, Think-Pair-Share, a line activity, and an online discussion board, which will foster my students’ moral development. In addition, I will monitor my students’ growth by conducting a pre-assessment as well as a final assessment. Through my classroom activities, I expect my students to
In the midst of September 2013, I began volunteering at The Valley Hospital as a pharmacy department assistant. My primary task while attending two-hour shifts was to organize the medicine returned by doctors into specific compartments. Along with that I also had the responsibility to empty medicine carts and associate them into boxes for the next volunteers to organize after I finished my shift. Sometimes, one of the pharmacists available would instruct me to open boxes of saline solutions, tape the appropriate nozzle shut, and use a “price gun” to print appropriate dates on each bag. During this entire experience, I have learned to have responsibility and to act in a mature manner when working alongside pharmacists who are so talented in
Angry Bots is a game developed by Unity Technologies to demonstrate the potential of Unity 3D game engine. It is graphically appealing game that features the potential of their 3D technology and scripting language, however the game is lacking in sound design elements. The game assets are open source and they are featured as a free download from Unity asset store (online). Angry Bots is a third person shooter game, meaning that the gameplay features “bird” view camera. Third-person “shooter” is a specific genre of video game that is played within a 3D environment and involves shooting enemies with provided weapons. It is a subgenre of action game that emphasizes the challenge of aiming and shooting. These
I was unable to find anything that I would consider concrete in regards to the required capabilities of a new lap top that is required. As you see the program manager at Saint Martins signed the required sheet. I would like to see if it possible to receive an Apple product. The reason for this request is that many school districts are an either or district. This means that the teachers and administration use either Apple products or Microsoft products. Over the years I have come quite comfortable using Microsoft systems. I have little to no experience using Apple operating systems. I feel as if I will become a more rounded educator if I am capable of operating both systems.
My aim is to be employed as an Accredited Practicing Dietitian in the health field by the year 2020. To achieve this goal I will enrol in a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics in Semester 1, 2016 at the University of the Sunshine Coast. The work values questionnaire I completed as part of Assignment 1 Part B indicated that working in a positive environment and job security were important to me and these are suitable to my preferred career as a dietitian.
Before beginning of this quarter, I had no formal education on the topic of love or cinema studies which made this course seem the most intriguing. This was a completely new topic to me. Through the many assignments and group discussions, I have a much greater understanding of the world of film and understanding love in east Asian countries. With the help of my peers reviewing my assignments and providing a different perspective on my essays, I have honed my abilities in writing and thorough film analysis.
Job title was stated as assistant PE teacher, roles were; setting up equipment for lessons, taking warm ups and full lessons (at times), helping students with both practical and theory based work and finally, marking work for both GCSE and A-Level.
In a 24 hour period my initial pricing was $7.27; I was not surprised as to how much I spent on a daily basis. From a very young age, when my mother would grocery shop she was very frugal on what she would buy and how much she spent. We never had name brand labels, always the off brand product and we had canned vegetables(not to say we didn't have a lot of fresh vegetables too), from this I learned how unimportant it was to buy name brand food, just because of the brand. So now as I spend my money, I am more aware of what I buy and how much I spend. On a regular basis, my mother and I shop at the 99 Cent Store, this is a chain store that offers produce, refrigerated foods and other products for either 99 cents or a little above that price (ex:milk=$2.99). Therefore, I believe I got an advantage when assigned this experiment; because I knew where to get cheap products that would put me under $5 a day. Even though I was not excited when getting this assignment because I knew I would have to
I was standing for 20 minutes “doing nothing” at Jay Gee’s , on a hot weather around 6:00pm on September 9, 2015. This is an ice cream place where families and kids go during the summer to play golfing, go cars, batting cages and an arcade. Families also go to eat ice cream and spend a good time with kids and family. As I was standing in front of kids and adults while they were trying to order ice cream or play, I saw people looking at me with an strange looks, like if I had four head, some people ignore me while others ask me if I was okay or ask me what I was doing and if I needed any help. Others where talking among others criticizing me by saying that I was crazy. Others pull their child away from me like if I was going to something
My understanding of being proactive was distorted in relation to the assessment before reading about the category. First question of the category, “are you in control of your life?”; yes, I am. I am very in-tune to my emotional, physical and spiritual needs. With respect to my professional life, I have a very good ability to focus on things I can control and almost mentally hide the things that I can’t. If I focus on the things I cannot change, will I be successful or effective? Sometimes I find myself in meetings having very little patience for what I like to call complaint sessions. As I’ve gotten older and matured I have learned to strengthen my poker face but complaints and sidebar conversations during meetings hold very little weight when
When I first learned that the second unit would be about writing in different genres I was totally confused. What did this mean? Would I be doing different writings of mystery, romance or science fiction? That was my only small narrow view of what a genre is. I have now come to learn that a genre is not only simply whether something is fiction or nonfiction but a genre is different types of writing from a recipe to a resume. I have come to learn that there are so many different types of genres all unique in their own respect and all written from a different perspective.
Knowing that the this teacher was treating me differently I started asking more question on things I didn’t understand so I could get some response back or at list show her that I was intelligent but during a parents and teacher conference I was called out for asking too many question. This was just too much for me to handle. First she ignores me when I want to answer the question and complains when I have question what I want to ask. Knowing she called me out for this I talked to her and asked for reason why I was never given any opportunity to show her my knowledge and why I didn’t get those chance to present those works and project where I could have easily gotten extra credits. Only explanation she gave to me was that she thought that language barrier prevented me from explaining so she didn’t picked me. This made me furious knowing this
Write a brief reflection on the activity (no more than 3 pages). What did you learn about yourself and others? What implications might this have on your own classroom practice?
I was responsible for helping my 3 other group members construct a lesson plan to teach a year 8 boys class. The lesson had to include information research about the four Dominican pillars. During preparation and presentation I developed my knowledge on the four Dominican pillars and teaching a year 8 class. I believe I reached my full potential as a part of the team, although I believe the lesson we taught could have gone partially better. Improvements that could have been made were dependant on the students in the class. At the start of the lesson the year 8 students were not participating as well as what they were at the end of the lesson. Not many students were inputting to class discussion and responding to questions the group and myself asked. Nevertheless I learnt a lot of new content whilst preparing for and teaching the class.
Educational Psychology has really opened my eyes and encouraged me to think about who I am and what kind of teacher I would like to be. In this class we have delved deep into ourselves with different self-assessments, which have lead to a better understanding of our strengths and weaknesses. Getting to know myself so thoroughly allowed me to realize how dynamic each one of my students will be and how my teaching style will need to be just as dynamic. Then, learning about the different philosophies of education helped me grasp how to formulate my own teaching philosophy. Last but not least, participating in the Junior Achievement program allowed me to get a taste of actually being in the classroom and gave me the opportunity to test out my own philosophy temporarily. Overall, understanding my personalities, learning about different educational philosophies and seeing how they work in the classroom has showed me how to be a teacher that makes a difference in the lives of my students.
