From your head to your toes, you have allowed yourself to become completely and totally relaxed….
For the amount of time that I was engaged in anchoring my mind to the current moment I noticed that there was a constant battle between myself and my mind, meaning there was strong urge to latch onto the thoughts and find meaning in them rather than just allowing myself to observe these thoughts. According to Chodron (2013) there are five reasons to meditate and one of the reasons is to cultivate attention towards every moment in our lives, which is important as she state “that we have allot of resistance to just being there!” (Chodrom, 2013, p. 4).
It was nice to take a break from the stress of the day to participate in this activity. As I listened to the prompts from the facilitator, my heart rate and breathing began to slow down. I noticed a literal sigh of relief taking place in my body. My muscles and tissues began to let go, and I sunk deep into my chair. I began to fall asleep, my mind letting go as well. Sara Lazar, a neuroscientist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, found that people who make meditation a regular part of their schedule have decreased stress and increased gray matter. By actively forcing the mind to take a break, your senses are literally enhanced (“Harvard neuroscientist: Meditation not only reduces stress here’s how it changes your brain,” 2015). It makes sense that by incorporating regular breaks for our brains, we are much more adept to handling the stresses of daily life, it is literally the smart thing to do. I have definitely come to realize the importance of incorporating intentional relaxation into my daily repertoire, and plan on making it a daily
The “Andy’s Challenge” has gone over board. The recent increase in injuries has parent worried about their children. There has been many injuries involving concussions, breaks, sprains, and bruises. In very extreme cases fatality is very high. We interviewed a few people and students to see what their thought on the “Andy’s Challenge” and children's crave.
I was surrounded by the sound of graphite moving anxiously over paper. The clamor filled my ears and collided with the dull ticking of the clock that hung over the SAT proctor’s disorderly, graying hair. There were only eighteen minutes left and I still had not written a single word. The prompt reverberated in my head like a ringing bell, but I could not form cohesive thoughts. My heart raced and my fingernails dug into the curve of my palm in panic, leaving small, pallid impressions in their wake. Pleading with myself, I considered the page that lay askew on the on the chipped desk in front of me. I wrote a desperate and painfully arbitrary sentence that I quickly erased. Nothing sounded right. I had studied and prepared for this moment with
When I started to worked on her wound first because that was the most important action to take. I started first by disinfecting her leg. She had let out a low moan. I was at this point that I felt something strange. Time had seemed to slow down. My hand started to move like it knew what it was supposed to do. Each and every action was smooth and connect without a single mistake. When I realised that time was flowing normally again, I saw that I was
I am writing with the intention of describing the math skills that I acquired prior to taking the Math 2414 course. I further intend to explain how my previous math skills have helped me to succeed in the calculus II course. As I intend to pursue a career as an electrical engineer, the Math 2414 course has provided me with skills that I will need in order to succeed in many of my future science courses, as well as in my career as an engineer.
I don’t pray, but sometimes I do touch the beads. It has become a secret. I never look at them, just let my fingers roam to them when no one is in the house. It’s a rare time when I do this. I touch them, and every time I do I think of small stones. At the bottom of the lake, rolled aimless by the waves, I think of them polished. To many people it would be a kindness. But I see no kindness in how the waves are grinding them smaller and smaller until they finally disappear. (Erdrich 141)
A Rube Goldberg machine is a device, invention, or creation used to perform a simple task. A simple machine is any of the basic mechanical devices for applying a force, such as an inclined plane or lever. If several simple machines are put together to cause a reaction, like turning on a record player, then the music will turn on because the energy transfers through all the simple machines eventually causing a string to be pulled turning the knob. One Rube Goldberg machine created was created to turn on a record player. The record player that was used required a knob to be turned. The first few attempts did not have the result wanted. Several changes were made to the machine to assure the outcome would be positive. Simple machines can be found
The simple task is to staple paper by using a Rube Goldberg machine, which has 5 different forms of energy.
Our group is making a rube goldberg machine. A rube goldberg is a complex machine with a chain reaction that is designed to form a simple task. One example of a simple task that it can perform is flipping a light switch. To begin this project we cut a piece of wood as an inclined plane. Next, we took a bouncy ball, so that it would roll down the inclined plane and hit a baseball. Since the baseball is heavier than the bouncy ball, it will roll on the flat surface(Add description of what flat surface). After that it should go directly into the cup. The ball will then exert force on
If I were to assign myself a mark, I would give myself a level 4. Firstly, our machine had more than four subsystems, which was more than what was required. In addition, many of our subsystems were not too simple, such as the pendulum and the catapult, which took several trials. In fact, it took us 37 tests to complete get the machine to do the task. However, we were determined and had the perseverance to finish this project. Furthermore, we put a lot of time and effort to make our Rube Goldberg work. We put extra work to our Rube Goldberg by testing and doing the project at school and at home. Moreover, we took the responsibility to get to talk to you about how well our project was and what modifications we can do to make the machine better.
After I studied the sculpture and attempted to return it to its shelf, it slipped out of my hands and fell to the floor, breaking into a number of pieces. Hearing the sculpture falling to the floor, my father came into the parlor and asked me what happened.
There are multiple types of blocks, and whether or not they’re interactive depends on their color, which also determines the cube’s function. From yellow stairs to blue bouncing cubes, going through yellow elevators-like parallelepipeds — which really are just a group of cubes — Q.U.B.E. has them all, and you simply need these special gloves to control and manipulate every single one of them.
“It’s my first time getting my face painted!” Jane said. As my roommate approached Jane with the paintbrush, Jane immediately started to ask many questions about the entire painting process. Jane also wanted to touch the paint, the wet sponge, my roommate’s keychains, and anything my roommate had that Jane was not familiar with. At one point Jane wanted to paint her face by herself. Jane was seeking new things, and trying to incorporate the new things into her understanding of the world (Ormond, p. 310-311). In order to make sense of these new things, she was interacting with her physical environment (Piaget, 1952b; as cited in Ormond, 2003). She was also intrinsically motivated (Mattingly, 2017) to improve her understanding of the world of face painting which she had never experienced before.
