Ruling Out School Prayer

Many people argue that school prayer is needed in schools, but I think that it is not necessary. I believe that it is not necessary to have prayer during school to please people of one religion. If a person can pray to him/herself, then there is no need for a public prayer. It has already been established in the constitution that school prayer has been banned and it should remain that way. In my opinion it should remain unconstitutional because it interferes with other student’s religion, the intention for school is education, and praying to one’s self is just as effective. If I were not religious, and we had prayers for those long amounts of times everyday, I myself would be pretty upset. I fully agree that school prayer is a pretty good way to ensure that students feel safe and optimistic throughout the day, but it just cannot happen. If a student feels strongly enough about praying before, during, and after school, they should pray amongst themselves because that is not the purpose for school. Education is defined as-1. educating: the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning, especially at a school or similar institution

3. instruction: training and instruction in a particular subject, e.g. health matters Brock 4
4. learning experience: an informative experience
Spending a weekend in their house was a real education. 5. study of teaching: the study of the theories and practices of teaching a degree in education
6. system for educating people: the system of educating people in a community or society jobs in education (Encarta World English Dictionary). Notice that in every definition, there is not a trace of the word “Prayer” nor “Religion”.
