The accomplishment that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood within my culture, community, and family is running a marathon. From running a marathon, I have shaped myself to become a better person. Before I started running a marathon, I was an impatient person who did not like to explain or go in depth in a conversation with my family, since I believed that my parents will never understand my thoughts and feelings due to the age gap and their traditional thoughts. I have become independent in many things when I was a little kid, such as packing my own lunch, managing my homework, and helping to do house chores. When I was in class, I always generate the ideas by myself, instead of sharing with the other students. I think that teamwork is a waste of time, which can drag my pace down and lowered the efficiency of the work. My parents taught me that hard works can get you anywhere that you want to go in life, but I did not agree with this statement in the past …show more content…
Communication can limit the mistakes from the miscommunicate, and clearly send the message across to the person that you want them to understand. In my case, I talked to my running coach when my joints are hurting. If I did not tell my coach on my situation, I will be more painful, and could not ever run again due to the injury. I believed that training for a marathon can surely linked people to people. In each practice race, I meet new runners who are at the same age as me or older. They cheered the other runners who are slow, tired, and depressed. The lesson that I learned from these runners is teamwork is more important than a personal achievement, it is a group achievement which can only achieve by trust and care. It is a bigger achievement than self-achievement. Teamwork can make people happy and feel
One of the most significant battles in antiquity was fought on the narrow, tree strewn plain of Marathon, in September, 490 BC. There, the Athenian army defeated a Persian force more than twice its size, because of superior leadership, training and equipment. The battle of Marathon has provided inspiration to the underdogs throughout history. In 490 BC, the Athenians proved that superior strategy, and technology can claim victory over massive numbers.
The Boston Marathon has always been one of the most popular event that goes on in Boston, now it is also the most remember able event because of the bombing on April 15, 2013. The wounded turned their tragedy into inspiration to tell others. Mayor J. Walsh says they will not be afraid. They will continue having this marathon for this marathon is special to the citizens of Boston.
My most meaningful accomplishment in the last few years is the work that I did as Social Chair of my sorority. When I was offered the position, I knew there would be stress from becoming the sole representative of my sorority to the rest of Greek life and other organizations. However, I greatly underestimated the stress of being the bridge between my organization and others. I pushed myself to see my position through and felt a huge sense of accomplishment after I was done and able to see the work that I was able to do. I would measure my success by comparing the work of other social chairs to what I was able to accomplish. Not only did I look at past social chairs within my organization, but I also sought out other social chairs for other
My accomplishments really date back when I graduated from high school. As the youngest of four, you would think I had wonderful romodels guiding me throughout my life and making it easier for me. However, that was not my case. I was actually one of 3 that graduated from high school from my brothers and sisters, and the only one that got accepted to a university. I am now happy to be a jr. at UTEP and be a ro-model from my nephews and nieces. I guess all those challenges really worked in my favor.
My biggest personal achievement I am most proud of would be getting selected for my district's Middle School Pathways Program. It is a program in which 7th graders are taught the 7th and 8th grade Math curriculum in one school year, essentially preparing them to take Algebra 1 in 8th grade. As a B grade student in the 5th grade the requirements of the program; a 6th grade math teacher recommendation, a Math grade of A, on all trimester report cards, and a score in the top 10% on the end of year 6th grade district benchmark assessment, the idea of being selected seemed a little close to nearly-impossible. Even though the chances seemed little to none I set a goal to be accepted and I was able to follow through with it. The reason as to why
The greatest accomplishment in my life thus far has been graduating high school. Academics has always been very significant to me. Neither my Mother or my Father graduated from high school and they have always encouraged me to receive my diploma. with the diploma came pride, being the first person in my family to get a higher education and knowing I'm one step closer to my career.
“Every serious marathoner should do Boston, to experience the close to a million spectators, the three generations of families out cheering, the little kids handing you water or orange slices. The whole city really appreciates the runners.” -Neil Weygandt. The Boston Marathon. A marathon that is an American tradition and has been ran for the last 119 years. It is one of the major parts of the Boston and American year. It is a part of which makes America great. The strength it takes to finish the marathon is exemplary of the American strength. We are a strong country and it’s going to take a lot to break us. These are all of the major reasons running the Boston Marathon is on my bucket list.
My 5k run was an experience. I had to give it my all. I started out with enough to stop a train. I had energy but it was dwindling into oblivion. By the time I had got to the long straight dirt road people started to pass me. When I turned around I saw lots more making me feel better. I again picked up my pace and continued. I learned that I was not alone. I know I wouldn’t be at the top so I stopped and started walking. Soon a man came and said “come on buddy only a quarter mile left.” I started to run again and I beat my last time.
myself, (I’ve run 51 marathons-5 Boston) I met Dick Hoyt at the Boston marathon where he was selling his book. Dick Hoyt has a son, Rick, with cerebral palsy. While Dick runs the marathon he pushes his adult son Rick in a jogger, in fact he invented the original baby jogger. This started many years ago, back in the day when Rick’s parents were told to put him in a home and forget about him. They refused and insisted on giving him as typical a life as possible. At any rate, while Rick and Dick were out running marathons Dick’s wife, Judy, was out working on the laws of our country. She was instrumental in getting special parking for people with special needs as well as changing the sidewalks so people with disabilities could function better outside. I remember when they changed all of the sidewalks I didn’t think much about it but later experienced how great it was not to have to jump the curb while riding my bike or running. In fact the lowered curbs are better for people with strollers and wheel chairs, the visually impaired, the elderly; and for people with small children and even pets. It’s just better for everyone. So why not? It just makes good common sense to facilitate the environment to be universally comfortable for everyone so we can all function and thrive. And it makes the same good common sense to do the same in the classroom.
Since pre-school my teachers believed that I was going to make something of myself; that encouragement and admiration for the person who I am made me more confident. I tried out for get lit, a poetry program and made the team in high school, I was in Academic Decathlon, I was in track and field hurdles and I did cross country along with multiple clubs. To say the least, I was involved in everything because I wanted to show my capability and make my parents proud. Moreover, Counselors and teachers made those opportunities assemble due to their encouragement. I was able to explore who I was by joining clubs and learning new concepts through AP and college courses. I excelled in high school and that is all to my teachers and parents who lifted me up to reach my expectation
My most meaningful accomplishment happened on December 13, 2014 when I graduated from college. I measured my success based on the rates of a former foster care youth graduating college. I measured my success based on me being the first one in my family to graduate college. This accomplishment was important to me because I grew up with teachers telling me that I would never make it out of high school. It was important because my biological mother told me I would never succeed in life and end up just like her. Having my biological mother tell me that I would have my children taking away from me pushed me even more. Having no support from a woman that brought me into the world made me what to become a social worker. Become someone that she sees
It was summer vacation and imp in bed, so lazy to get up and do nothing. Everyday since school ended vie been in bed I only get up to eat and to go to the bathroom. Going to eat, is so stressful, I feel like I ran a marathon when I get down stairs. Every kid on the bloc is having fun either at the beach or just being out side on the street. I look out side and all of them look like dogs with their tongues out. Hopefully everyday of summer is like this so I can nothing to do!
I had more challenges to overcome as I grew older. When I was in elementary school, my father left China for opportunities in America, and due to my mother’s demanding work schedule,
The accomplishment I am proud of today is my academic excellence; I am proud of my GPA which is 3.67. I am proud of this accomplishment because I had never gotten a GPA this high before. There is a lot of competition in my family regarding academic excellence, and whenever my aunts would brag about their children's excellent GPA to my mom, I would feel very insecure as I was an average student not good in studies as I was more interested in sports during high school. I knew that my parents felt bad, but they never pushed me to quit sports and focus more on studies, and I am very grateful to that. Now that I am in college and have a very good GPA I am proud of this accomplishment as this makes my parents happy which in turn makes me happy
My greatest accomplishment thus far, has been getting high grades in college. Accomplishing this required: patience, dedication, tenacity, stamina, and confidence. It took patience because there were long hours that were dedicated to homework and studying. It took dedication because I had to continually tell myself that it would be worth it, even when it was difficult. It took tenacity because I knew that I couldn't accept anything less than my best. It took stamina because there were a lot of late nights and just a lot of time in general to complete everything that was required of me. Lastly, it took confidence because if I didn't believe that I could, it would have made it a million times harder.
