Every moment in my life has impacted me and shown me how I should run my classroom. Spending many years struggling in school, no one helping me or trying to figure out what is best for me to get the best education I can showed me what I do not want for my students. This struggle has shown me that every student is different and has a different way of learning. This allows me to learn my students strengths and weaknesses and play on them to help them receive the education they deserve and succeed. Being exposed to so many different people and cultures through travel and attending an international school has allowed me to see how other people live and work and given me insight to other cultures and how to be sensitive to their culture and traditions
One day in the fourth grade, my teacher asked the class if they wanted to either go outside or stay working on math problems if we behaved badly. Believe it or not, I chose to stay and work on math problems even though I was always well behaved. This action (even though it was many years ago) reflects who I am today. When given the chance, I dont always go out to hang out with friends and have fun. I mostly stay home trying to get as much homework done as I can. Now homework isn't the only thing I do with my life.
In the essay, Do Students Lose More than They Gain in Online Writing Classes? From the publication, Brave New Classrooms (pg. 141-151), Kiefer questions whether students gain any real benefits from an online education structure. In her essay, Kiefer discusses the many shortcomings from online learning. She makes special notice of the effect of online learning on writing courses at the college level. Online learning is a rapidly expanding learning format that takes full advantage of today’s technology. Although popular, it does have its shortcomings that Kiefer addresses throughout the article. Kiefer present her argument with her experience as a writing teacher with both experience in traditional and online teachings. Within the article she
Everything we do impacts us one way or another and it has greatly helped us grow as individuals. Things that shape us don't occur during one time frame nor do they seem significant until you put further thought into it. A few moments that have enhanced my personal growth are my student leadership roles, community involvement, and musical achievements. My student leadership roles have allowed me to be more comfortable in my skills along with time management. Similarly, my community involvement has made me more comfortable in a work-based environment and my musical achievements taught me to never give up when it involves something that I am greatly passionate about.
Last semester was exceptionally challenging; however, it was extremely beneficial because I had to work harder than any of my other classes before. I think various elements contributed to me being unsuccessful in Nursing 204. My aunt died in March with Lupus and that affected me in a huge on the grounds that she played a big role in my life, since I was a child. I was still in the denial stage and my emotions took over, which caused me to become less motivated in school. I just felt like I had no inspiration last semester and I should not have let my emotions hindered my education. In high school, I generally experienced difficulty taking tests that were not seeking the direct answers, and the Nursing 204 tests were not quite the same as the tests I would regularly take. My procrastination last semester played an enormous role in failing the course. When I initially
My student teaching provided me with was an experience that will best benefit me into my future teaching career. I had the opportunity to teach in a 1stgrade classroom. The class started out with 17 students, 5 girls and 12 boys, but one student moved away and the class size dropped to 16 students, leaving the class with 4 girls and 12 boys. My cooperating teacher and the students accepted me into their classroom and were excited to have another teacher in the room.
During my four years teaching at Agora Cyber Charter School, student achievement has been an upmost concerns. Traditionally, our student population has not done well on standardized test and each year our scores have gone down. Personally, I feel that our students lack a sense of overall performance character and need help developing the characteristics of perseverance, integrity, and responsibility. Additionally, we work within a unique platform in a virtual classroom that could lead to some progressive models of education. One model that I feel would be effective in the cyber environment is the use of a flipped classroom pedagogy. Not only would a flipped classroom enable us to more effectively differentiate instruction, it would increase
Living 18 Years I can confidently say I have learned a lot of things that transformed me into a person I am today. Whether I learned it in school, Sports teams, or at home, I will benefit from these experiences throughout my life. But the most experienced that transformed me would be Moving to the United States. It was hard at first adapting to new culture, language, and new friends. After the first few weeks I didn't want to do it no more, I wanted to move back to Egypt, but my mom was telling me to be patient.
One of my most memorable learning experiences occurred this year in my American Studies class. As a part of the class my teacher, Mr. Blahnik, had agree and disagree topics about current issues in today's society. During this process, differences of ethics and morals clashed, but at the same time it was beneficial to envision what another is picturing an issue. In addition, it taught how the same facts that two people build their interpretation of replies completely on the interpretation of each individual. This knowledge on how everything was based on interpretation allowed me to be rewarded with more confidence in my response. As a student who moved to Sturgeon Bay High School just a school year ago, it was nerve racking to be strong in my believes not knowing the basics of what my peers would think. Moreover, this experience making me confident in my ability of what I can achieve.
All these things have helped shape me to be who I am today. Being able to accomplish learning a new language at an early age and then helping my family, has helped me transition into adulthood even at a young age. It has taught me to be independent and work harder to achieve my goals, and even if it is difficult always trying my hardest will help me achieve
“For the novice, curiosity comes naturally and innovation is a necessity. There is a desperate need to figure out how best to serve students and humility that comes with knowing that you do not have all of the answers” - Jonathan Eckert
My formative experience in my life from earliest years at school was struggling to have the items I needed for school; my school was very poor at that time of period and still is but it didn't have the items like enough chairs, tables, pen and pencils and others for the students, but I wanted to provide those things at least to the students when I grew up and now I have learned so much from the experience that I had through out my life; I have accomplished the dream and I am proud of myself.
This article confirms some of my ideas and suspicions about potential collaboration with classroom teachers. On the whole, it seems that most teachers would be willing to collaborate with the school librarian if they understood that doing so is worthwhile. On the surface, the advantages seem numerous: a shared workload, a partner to brainstorm and discuss ideas with, the opportunity to innovate and elevate lessons beyond the traditional, conventional, and mundane, etc. However, two of the biggest factors affecting the amount of successful collaboration are time and mutual respect on behalf of both parties. The research confirmed that many teachers and librarians feel that they do not have the time to collaborate with one another because of
Throughout my high school years I have chosen classes that challenge me that are graduation requirements and that
I don't think that I identify as someone who is a visual learner but as look at this list it makes me wonder if I am! I always carry a pen and paper with me just in case I need to make a list and I love studying in a quiet environment. Most people that really know me would say I am very detail oriented, but what I don't like of this list is reading. I have a hard time sitting down and just reading for enjoyment. Reading is something that I really have to work hard at even just for fun. In the online classroom it has been really easy to intergrate these things because of how organized the whole classroom is. I have everything laid out for me even a list of what I need to
A recent experience of mine that has made a significant impact on who I am today would be my joining of open immersion. Immersion has always been a tradition of my school, Assumption College, for many years. This became one of many reasons why I decided that I’d like to take part of this tradition before I graduate and leave my more than a decade-long alma mater. I also chose to volunteer because I saw this as a good opportunity to render community service and fulfill my social responsibility as a student in the Assumption community.
